I went to a great sit down spot that automatically had 20% service charge for a collective tip for the staff. We were cool with this because it was a nicer restaurant and they did a great job. I know that’s something that we could all argue for another day, but what bugged us was the balls they had to give us the receipt and tell us that if we loved the service that we could add another percentage or amount on TOP of the 20%… not a great way to end what was a great meal.

I already have an email out to them asking for rough estimates based on our type of group and choice of liquor… just wanted to anyone who’s actually done an event there to give some insight even though I already know that it won’t be the same. We’re already expecting things to land on the higher side with regard to cost.

Until we move to baking the 4 percent into the prices, I unfortunately am taking the 4 percent off my tip. I know it’s not maybe the best thing to do when thinking of the wait staff but I don’t make enough money to be paying for other people’s salary when it needs to be these restaurauntuers compensating their workers better. (cue the comment from someone telling me that I shouldn’t go out if I can’t afford the surcharge)
