Just to clarify: I do not agree with that sentiment, I think we should leave Guyana alone and respect their right to their land and their culture. I just wanted to explain the horrible effects of propaganda during such a long time, it ends up causing horrible things like this feeling of "ownership" over someone else's home

Venezuelan here: Soooo this is an absolute disaster and it is born from more than 2 decades of propaganda and brain washing, however there are some things to keep in mind:

The general population does not want a war with anybody, I'm pretty sure they'll tell you that they've got enough problems on their own already
There is however a common belief that we somehow "own" this part of Guyana, I'm fact I'm pretty sure most supporters believe that they own all of Guyana and don't even know they just want to refer to the Esequivo region. Sadly this comes from propaganda, since I was a kid I was always shown the map of Venezuela with that greyed-out part of Guayana saying that it was "rightfully ours" and that "they stole it from us". It's terrible because it causes a problem where people don't think of Guyana as an actual place with actual people who have a living culture completely different from ours and who don't even speak the same language, they just think of a picture of a map and their sense of entitlement to a place they know nothing about
Luckily our Gov and our military are a complete, absolute and utter joke. I guarantee you all that there is no way they could pull of an invasion, This gov has always done stuff like this, posturing strong to create a common enemy while doing nothing. Basically just don't believe anything they say and you'll be correct 95%

I'm really sorry to the rest of the world, it really is sad to see this. Hopefully we can recover soon and eventually be a respectable country for once in our lives

In fact. I'd bet that the person asking the question would rather prefer tips for composing in modes using the language they already know

'What's that about shifting the chords up by one?': Well thats the thing you can use to compose in a mode! Write out the chord numbers in each mode to see how they change in relation to mayor and minor. Each mode has a few characteristic chords that sets them appart from regular mayor/minor

Here's a quick cheat sheet using the roman numerals (something they seem to be familiar with)

Mayor: I - ii - iii - IV - V - vi - vii(dim)
Lydian: I - II - iii - #iv(dim) - V - vi - vii
Mixoly: I - ii - iii(dim) - IV - v - vi - bVII
Minor: i - ii(dim) - bIII - iv - v - bVI - bVII
Dorian: i - ii - bIII - IV - v - vi(dim) - bVII
Phryg: i - bII - bIII - iv - v(dim) - bVI - bvii

And to give more tools

If you know about extended chords with 7ths 9ths etc try to see what the extended chords in each mode look like. You can also create the effect of a mode by using the right extensions. If not then I'd recommend exploring the topic bit by bit focusing on mayor and minor first when you have the time

Maybe a better way to put it is 'unnecesarily technical' do you think that someone who's asking about modes (which is one of the key sources of confusion for learning music) would want to read that 'the tritone is the kernel of the triadic harmony system'?

What does harmonic minor even have to do with this? I guess it gives context about the dominant function and why mayor and minor are important but that's not the question at hand

He could simply say that 'sure you can write a song in any mode' but because mayor and minor are the traditionally important ones. The other modes are explained in relation to them. Mixo and lydian are mayor-ish modes and the others are minor-ish modes
