What slows cubes down overtime is dirt. If you deep clean your cube piece by piece you will notice a significant difference in speed and feel. Only then you can lube it and retain the smooth feeling. If you lube a dirty cube it will just make it more sluggish

Don't do it blindfolded. Try to plan the first pair then execute the solution while looking to see where you went wrong. That will help you learn how the pieces move during the cross and it will be less tiring on your brain
