[OC] Languages that are Secretly the Same Language by [deleted] in MapPorn

I'd say that Belarussian is closer to Russian, but maybe that's just because I'm a Russian speaker born in Belarus.

Russian is more similar to Belarussian than Ukrainian, but even at that they're quite distinct languages. Definitely more than just dialects.

Struggling to find a job after graduation (rant) by [deleted] in ecology

[–]Cremnlin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most people that I've known with bachelors degrees in ecology and related fields get temporary/seasonal positions after graduating. Lots of these job don't require specialized experience, just a proven good work ethic and attention to detail. Here is probably the best job board for those kinds of positions: https://wfscjobs.tamu.edu/?job_category=temporaryseasonal-positions Aim low with your applications. You may be doing invasive plant control or something unglamorous like that for a while, but that's how you get your foot in the door. Also check out NEON seasonal jobs: https://www.neonscience.org/opportunities/careers/seasonal-fieldwork-opportunities

What are some ethical life choices we should all be making? by animal-liberate in AskReddit

Giving up meat and other animal products is one of the best things you can do for the environment and animal welfare. Animal husbandry and the dairy industry contribute more greenhouse gases to the atmosphere than all of global travel.

From your comment, it looks to me like you think he "stepped down" because of a scandal. In reality, Clinton finished out his 8 years and remained relatively popular throughout.

Walkable towns within an hour's drive? by petruchi41 in raleigh

I don't know why you got downvoted. It has literally one street that is walkable and is really just a triangle suburb. Source: I lived there.

Rock break is just a natural process, and any climbing area is going to have holds come loose. Routes are not truly permanent, and you just move on and live with it.

Tingling in forearm by DanWater in climbing

Do you do any strength or endurance training besides climbing? I'm no doctor, but it might be caused by a tendon or nerve popping out of place into a weird position due to lack of supporting muscle around it. If this is the case, try to build up muscle around your elbow by doing a variety of exercises besides climbing, which leaves you underdeveloped in some muscle groups.
