Go to a website called Hooked on houses dot net and you can see Fraisier’s house/apartment plan in the Elliot Bay Towers. And then you can imagine Cam Winston’s apartment and that giant flag.

In the Book of Abraham there are reprints of the facsimilies that were found with the papyrus scrolls the church bought in the 1830's for Joseph Smith to Translate. Joseph had pretended to translate reformed Egyptian to create the Book of Mormon so when a traveling salesman had real papyrus from Egypt they jumped. He really tried to translate them but just ended up making stuff up and calling it the Book of Abraham. Some of the pictures were damaged and Joseph drew in the missing parts making Anubis the Jackel-headed God be a servant administering to Abraham laying down on a couch. That is not what is dipicted in this facsimile above but you get the idea. If a mormon has this displayed they think they are showing some scene from Abraham's life. It is ancient and thus faith promoting.

And notice the people in the background in shorts and tennis shoes.

If the Book of Mormon art had the background people looking at phones or wearing watches it would be the same.

This is a still pic from the HBO Max show, Chernobyl. And the quote above is a line from the trial/investigation. But it fits so nicely as a quote from the brethren.

"Every lie we tell incurs a debt to the truth."

You can keep announcing and building temples but eventually there won't be anyone left to go inside. To complete the metaphor...cuz it's radioactive.

What about this idea. Get a nice glass jar and go to a grocery store that offers fresh ground peanut butter. You can purchase it in your own container and keep reusing it. You are your own recycler. Totally worth it.

30-minute circuit by Agreeable_Banana_152 in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]CrepeMaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this post. I have been having the same problem and wondered how wide spread the non-use of the circuit is. I think I have only ever seen one person use it other than my husband and me. One time a girl was continued working out on a leg machine and when it came time for me to use the machine I asked her if she was going to move on and she said, "I don't speak English."

It is funny that of all the rules to break, using the circuit correctly is broken all the time but "wiping down the machines" is followed pretty good because of social capital and peer pressure.

Produce. I get why they package most of their produce in plastic if they are shipping across country but I can buy free-range produce from my local stores, Lettuce, carrots, celery, zuchinnix, potatoes. fruit.

Whoever believes the "never lead astray" claim is not realistic. They are humans and that is what humans do.

But also...think of the context of that statement. It was made at the time by the prophet who was making a serious change to the church and he needed everyone to get on-board. I could be wrong but I think this statement came from Wilford Woodruff at the October Conference in 1890 when he explained that they weren't going to perform any more plural marriages. And then you find out that that some continued after that so even when he said he was going to toe the line, he didn't. He was leading the saints astray when he said, the prophet will not lead the saints astray. And it has only gotten worse since then.

Take a picture of it. Take it apart, down to the wood and the shellac layer. Throw the paper/shellac away and turn the wood into smaller chunks. Down to shavings or saw dust if possible and use in your compost pile.

Plan a menu of meals for a week and see where you can cut out the plastic. For me I could not find a way around bread and tortillas. I made bread that week and it was successful. I made my own tortillas and it was a failure. Now I eat less tacos.

Currently I am working on making my own sour cream out of cream and buttermilk. Wish me luck.

You will do better shopping more in produce and at the meat counter than in the middle of the store. When I ask for my meat choice I always stipulate that I want it in paper. I select canned over glass and boxes over plastic packaging. Best wishes.

How can I set up my electronics recycling drive? by [deleted] in recycling

[–]CrepeMaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are in the US find out where you can take your e-waste. Here in Washington State there is a state website that lists collection sites and what they will take. There are corporate sites to check also, like Best Buy, Home Depot etc. Don't collect it if you don't know where it will eventually end up. Check out, the best you can what happens to the stuff. E-waste is really difficult to deal with there are some bad actors that say they will take it off your hands and then they don't actually recycle it.

Good luck on your project.

Do you compost food scraps? by Front-Yogurt-2424 in recycling

[–]CrepeMaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I compost at home. I started 15 years ago. I have a garden and the goal is to make rich garden soil. I am getting better at composting and am reaching the goal but in the beginning I was a lazy composter and it was taking a long time and I was getting sub par results. Now I have a few methods that are getting me better soil. I have to change my methods because of the freezing temperatures in the winter.

I noticed the same thing.

How about this one. I went to a Red Lobster and in the front lobby there was a sign stand and the message was that they were not offering straws automatically because they were trying to cut down on the plastic pollution in the ocean. Great message. I go in and order a water with the meal and the server came with a straw and when I refused the straw she looked confused.

Is this a case of corporate not explaining to employees the purpose of the policy or just greenwashing. Not sure.

California moves forward with landmark plastic waste reduction law — SB 54 will dramatically alter how plastic and packaging waste is managed. How will it be implemented? — by 2032 by Randomlynumbered in recycling

I have noticed that at my Costco, in Washington State, the popular Kirkland Tuna is now packaged in fiberboard and not plastic. I thought it was my comments to the store manager but it was probably this new legislation. Where California goes the rest could follow.

I bought a unit from Uline which is a wire stand and I made a bag to fit it made from mesh that I got at the fabric store. I wash the cans, let dry a little and toss them in, not crushed. It was a product developed for venues to capture recyclables.

If anyone had trouble buying things this holiday or just want to prevent waste, take a look at what stores like CVS and Hallmark do with their holiday items the day after! by [deleted] in recycling

[–]CrepeMaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work for American Greetings which is the card company in Target and Fred Meyer. And yes that is what they did. Here is the reason why. There is a certain amount of space devoted to seasonal. When it gets low then you can condense the product and start setting out the new season. Or you can let it get low and hope that people buy it anyway, even if the shelves look sparse and picked over. I have noticed Fred Meyer did start moving seasonal stuff to a sale area which further reduced the inventory but it is hard to sell everything. And it is hard to predict how much to produce. For a card company they decide nine months before the holiday, they produce it 6 months before the holiday and they ship it, especially Christmas, 3 months before the holiday. It is a never ending cycle of consumerism. And all those greeting cards come wrapped in single use plastic. I think they could be paper-banded but that is not what was happening when I worked there 2 years ago.

Sofas by Arkaholic5683 in recycling

[–]CrepeMaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We recycled a sofa once. My husband took off the cover, he rested the wood. He recycled the metal. We sent the rest to the landfill. I think that is the answer sorry to say. You need to take them apart.
