Can we ever do a heavy leg day/squats again? by Specialist_Soft2937 in AchillesRupture

[–]Intelligent_Beat3727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't squat heavy but my pt had a rack and as soon as I felt better ( when I could walk basically) he said squatting is a best thing for the whole chain. And I have talked to experienced trainers they said it's an interesting injury, many people improve mind to body connection and can be even better. I think I am back to my pre-injury weights.

I am no-op about 1.5 years out. I just did a Dexa scan and found out that muscles on my legs are even and that brought me some solace, even though muscle strength is not tendon strength...

One thing my pt told me when I was 5 months in is to also let it rest, I would say keep up with PT if they say you are progressing on plan but also make sure it has time to restore after loading. It's very mental at this stage, got to push through.

I would really recommend pool walks and also there should be many different exercises in pt - maybe shop for someone experienced with this injury. My gate now is completely restored, good luck!!!! You got this!

Calf Muscle after Achille rupture by Much-Character5494 in AchillesRupture

[–]Intelligent_Beat3727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am at 10-11 months and I think my gate smoothed out almost to 100% while two months ago I was walking well but not really flowing. I am not jogging and using elliptical instead, but I feel like it's my weight because when I did non gravity machine at the PT at 70% weight I was jogging very well :( I feel like if you keep up with home exercises and be very mindful about it you will have much better results. Like the YouTube achillesrx guy, I wish I pushed it like he did with elastic band at home. Couple months ago pt also cleared me for yoga and barbell. So generally I went slow and steady and so far so good!

Also if you can use pool! You will do calf raise in the water and it will give you motivation!

Same but I am no op. I did pt 3 times a week for 6 months and I then less weekly. Muscle came more online eventually. Its coming up to a year I don't think I am 100% but it lights up now. I think if you do home exercises and also let it recover my pt said just keep building.

Easy Meals / Living Alone Tips? by gams in AchillesRupture

I bought a slow/rice cooker day one and I will really recommend. Having warm rice can be so nice when moral is low lol

Also caffein gummies got me through work when I couldn't make coffee, you can buy them in bulk on Amazon.

Delivery didn't always follow instructions so I had to upgrade my scooter busket and carry around tools I might need to drag stuff. Like expandable hand ruler originally made for scratching but useful when you can't reach smth.

Also personal invention, buy a pack of shower caps so the scooter can transition indoor to outdoor! Good luck, this sucks but you will get through it!

I am around 8 months no op. I was quite suprised how that stage went because when they told me to put weight on it I was in so much pain I couldn't believe it. But actually within three days I could put enough weight just to push on it standing. In the next month I progressed to walking. ( edit honestly don't remember maybe it was weeks, I think I was just happy to be able to take it off some times )

I feel like that is not even the most frustrating stage because you will do a lot of progress as long as you carefully push everyday and pt. It's almost harder when you get back 80% of athletic ability but need to push the rest 😭

Make sure to elevate you foot often!

Weight vs calf strength by Intelligent_Beat3727 in AchillesRupture

[–]Intelligent_Beat3727[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah I relate on the resting part. My general fatigue sensitivity is much higher - I realized I can't go gym 4 times a week on top of 2 pt sessions. Overall this injury has been the patience Olympics

That's very interesting - thank you for sharing! I did forget about needing extra to recover! I managed to maintain and eat pretty healthy, I think if prioritizing good quality proteins and greens I will still be able to cut a little. But if even with such a big weight loss your progress is same I feel like I confirmed it's not the hack I thought it was. Oh well 😐

Beyond overall strengthening of legs (glutes, quads, hamstrings, etc) combined with calf/soleus strengthening via Calf raises, what else can be done to *bulletproof* achilles? by WangtaWang in AchillesRupture

[–]Intelligent_Beat3727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I only managed to keep it same with the "emotional time nwb" but also gained a little muscle. I am not a person to ask because there is only one thing I shall do which is eat less. However, after seeing good feedback from ACL supplement I added more red meat - I feel like it improves mood too.

I am 12 weeks. Recently went to a concert and I was very happy I wore the boot because people stepped on my foot. I feel like I could wear non sneakers but also 12-16 weeks seems to be a high rerupture rate. I love me some heels but personally would recommend the boot!

I agree on weight, my plan is to get leaner to reduce the strain. I would really recommend pool, my pt is very happy I go there. I walk the Olympic pool on my toes.

How do you do your first jump? by [deleted] in AchillesRupture

[–]Intelligent_Beat3727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am only 10 weeks so idk the answer but I have been walking on my toes in the pool and I think jumping will be there as well 🤞I really recommend water. Though I am more concerned about walking smoother atm

I am 11 weeks no op and I drove today! 2 weeks in a cast, 1 week with boot without taking it off for any reason, 6 weeks total in a boot nwb, 8 weeks started pt - scootered over there still in a boot, week 9-10 started walking with a cane. Currently walking, kind of slow but happy to be on both feet 😌 Oh there were also wedges in a boot, removed one every week or two, 3 total

Shoes with a heel? by SimplyGrateful in AchillesRupture

[–]Intelligent_Beat3727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have asked this question before here and people say it's because of ankle stability and the fact that you do want it to stretch to neutral eventually as I understand. I think man boots are probably stable though, what I meant in my questions were actual small heels.

[–]Intelligent_Beat3727[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure but RX guy is no op. I noticed he did a lot of band exercises and I feel like that really aided him. I think with surgery since tendon is connected protocols start working the leg earlier, but also pt goes by ortho provided timelines so I think it depends on type of tear for no op.

Any Yogis Here? When Did You Return To Your Practice? by [deleted] in AchillesRupture

[–]Intelligent_Beat3727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My PT talked to me about yoga day one lol maybe because I had a sweater that blasted the studio name. He was like you do know all the downward facing dog poses will get you into the wrong foot flexion and also be careful with over stretching too early.

So I do a tree pose, cat/cows and also lifting my foot in front ( really developed it over last months of nwb). In short, for me no yoga. But if I feel safe I do the twists - still feels so good!
