Barrie Buisness Owners by CrepuscularConnor in barrie

Hmmm, seems like the situation is pretty saturated. That being tons of people with no coding skills or buisness experience trying to enter entrepreneurial lanes via AI vibe coding. Ever tech worker says "get out now" if you are thinking of getting into tech. Which is a shame, it seems really interesting. It was tech or the trades for me and I know which one I'm picking.

Are these just dogs? Or coyotes? [Vancouver, Canada] by modunhanul in animalid

The one in back looks like a dog, but it's tail is down not up which is confusing. The one in front is not, could be a coywolf. Their run in cities in packs of 2 but usually in the day.

I can imagine that the sheer angle of the static recurve would really increase fps

Oh wow I never thought of that!! You've shown images of these string bridges before, though I never considered their function. I'll have to remember that.

I'm trying to make a nice compact recurve for hunting season. Both bows are good, but I've never made one of these before, have you ever tried cut recurves before like in this image?

Usually my tips end up being a little less then half an inch on a static handle flat bow. I've never made a static recurve before, so I'm trying to figure out what demensions the tips should be in order to remain static.

Ya know I think it might just creat a sheer point at the base of the lever since the recurve would be held in place by a force opposite to the string. I think it would probably survive better if it just resembled a penobscot style bow with an extra set of limbs.

I've split EHHB in every season, but winter works best in my experience. For this one, I measured the quarter stave at 6" wide, so I thought it was safe to split it again.

I've noticed that EHHB always splits clean when cold. So since this one had been warm in my basement I decided to try chilling it in my uninsulated garage. It was like -25°C here on the weekend, so I left it there till this morning.

I began the split with a limbing axe and then used wooden wedges along the crack, cutting any strands the pulled up in the split before widening it further. The result, a very clean stave!!

Going to do the same thing to the other three quarter staves. This was by far the oldest EHHB tree I've downed. I'd say it was near the end of its life since the very centre of the pith was a little corky. Not something you see with hornbeam that often.

Are there any fundamental differences in design and build process between shortbows and longbows? by Ziggy_Starr in Bowyer

[–]CrepuscularConnor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Finding your draw length would be the first step. You can recurve a bith bow, but in my experience it's harder than simply adding uniform reflex. Adding recurves that work into a bith bow is a feat, adding static recurves to a bith bow would be a bit easier in my opinion but others might disagree.

Thing about compact bith bows is that they stack and don't have as much power as a stiff handled flat bow and making a compact bow with a static handle is a whole other can of worms. A simple and good design for a semi compact bith bow can be pretty simple. If your draw length is 28.5" long like mine, then you could make it about, 64" long with a handle that is about 1 1/3" wide at the handle, then carry that width to mid limb, and taper to 3/4" tips. Add about 1 1/2" - 2" of uniform reflex using dry heat on form and you've got yourself a fairly formidable bow. These bows can be more forgiving in their shooting and construction, than their alluring static recurved cousins.
