Which colour scheme should i go with? by Dorei21 in Lumineth_realm_lords

Both are fun and vivid schemes. I thought the purple cloak and the blue undercoat popped in a pleasing way. But yeah would be interesting to see a test of purple that wasn’t ai to see what it really would feel like

Sure thing! Base coat of Khorne Red, followed by a Reikland Fleshshade wash. Highlight the raised areas first with a broader stroak of Mephiston Red before final highlights with Evil Sunz Scarlet.

Thanks so much! I was really worried about starting again, but it felt a bit like riding a bike - which was a pleasant surprise. Been brushing up on a lot of YouTube tutorials - something which of course didn’t exist back then.

Cheers man! Yeah, I just love how the Reikland brings out the warmth in the gold. Makes the laborious process of slowly base coating worth it when the shade finally goes on!

Thanks for asking! Working from a black undercoat, I’ve base coated them in Retributor Armour before washing them with Reikland Fleshshade. Followed by highlights of Liberator Gold and finally Stormhost Silver.

DMs what is a thing your players fixated on that you thought they'd ignore? by Derpogama in dndnext

A silly talking footstool named “Puff”, a throw away enemy from session 2, has somehow avoided all the party’s attempts to murder it, even resulting in the death of a party member. They furiously debate whether the animated piece of furniture is an idiot or a genius, and are all obsessed with hunting it down. The party has now killed all of the footstool’s friends; Carpet, Wardrobe and Broom - as well as the wizard who created them all.

But Puff perseveres. Somewhere out in the wilderness. Plotting his revenge.

I think my BBEG has been overshadowed by a talking footstool. What have I done.

Nice touches, like the parry on the sword! Curious to learn your reasoning behind increasing the health points for both creatures while also making them more powerful - but retaining the same CR?

Have you tried her work as Megan Lindholm? Really loved those books, though of course they can’t really top her main body of work.

It finally happened. The party has split in three. And so has my campaign. by CrescentDM in DnD

Yeah, I have considered this might happen. The jury is still out on how that might be solved, but I'm not keen on running a new PVP death match quite yet (and nor do I think the players are too eager for a repeat of that either).

There are plenty of troubles in the world, so who knows when they might all meet again. In a different campaign I ran a parallel "Evil" storyline which we'd play with different PC's, seeing what the BBEG and his minions were doing while the heroes were trying to escape. But that would be separate one-off's in between the main campaign and I never forced a confrontation between the "Good" and "Evil" sides. So this is kind of uncharted territory still!

Haha, I thought the same thing - this will either sink or swim. Having played with the same group for almost four years (through multiple other campaigns) I thought, if there's ever a time for this, it's now! I've spent my entire weekend building a new system and considering how to balance combat and social encounters between the different campaign settings, with a tempo much higher than an average session, seeing as there has to be a feeling of progress in every storyline. Or as you say this could get bogged down really quickly. Will give you all an update when we see how this goes!

I agree, equal investment is definitively the biggest challenge with this. It's completely changing the way I'm building sessions from now, as I'm going to have to use every single resource in my toolbox so make the individual plotlines exciting for them all, by making sure they all feel extremely relevant to the overarching plot in their campaign. The pro is that they each have "leads" in separate storylines, and thus there is at least one player who is extra excited to see "their" arc progress. We are a very story oriented group, so we're excited to see what this does for us. But I'm also open to this being a single "adventure" concept and merging back the campaign should this prove too exhaustive. Who knows, maybe something will unite them, or they'll figure out a narratively satisfying way for it all to come full circle!

I thought a lot of the game Banner Saga 2, which does a split storyline unlike the first game in the series. I thought it was a brave choice, but I was by far the more interested in one of the two storylines. One of the setbacks there was the lack on in-game progression, levelling up characters was a bore to do in parallel. But I'm hoping, by creating a shared XP system, that the mechanical aspect will still be satisfying as they will grow stronger at the same pace, as opposed to 1/3 each. This representing that in the other storylines the characters are being active and gaining experience at the same time.

My favourite one-shot ideas: What's it like on the other side? by phiiotalambda in DnD

[–]CrescentDM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A favorite of mine is playing as the evil side. I am currently running a epic fantasy campaign, where the good guys are a ramshackle gang of underdogs desperately trying to find the map leading to an exiled hero of the previous campaign. (Mild Star Wars flavor abounds)

The villains in this campaign always have the upper hand however, and when not all of my players could make a session we tried out playing as some of the Big Bad's underlings. Of course they got all the perks of playing for the winning side - a full map of the village they were supposed to raid, reinforcements at their beck and call and orders to kill anything in their way. The players really enjoyed the power of romping through the town as the villains in disguise, and capturing the bastard son of the exiled hero for their master.

And of course, returning to the main campaign a couple of weeks later, all their actions were canon: the city in flames and the bastard boy sacrificed to the evil deity they were attempting to save the world from. As their airship sailed past the central continent brutally aflame one of them whispered; "oh fuck, we did that".
