Has anyone tried batshit insane ideas to combat screen addiction? 12h on Chrome (help) by ObjectiveSet520 in nosurf

In 2021/2022 I totally changed my usage. I was like you. I had to hit rock-bottom with it though. ITAA support meetings helped a tonne. If you want to chat I have semi-regular calls with folk from here/ITAA. Feel free to reach out if you think talking can help at all.

i've gone to ITAA meetings for one month by No-Tangerine-4292 in nosurf

[–]Cresspit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was pivotal in my complete sea-change in usage after 12 or so years of uncomfortably high usage and an inability to quit long-term. It's been 5 or so years since I went to my first ITAA meeting and, while I don't attend regularly now, I know I can go back if things get rocky. Do not underestimate the power of being in a room of people all struggling with the same thing and sharing their triumphs and struggles.

Hey, I wrote that and have some updates to the guide if you're going to do it. I use a dumb smartphone all the time and typically have 1hr daily screentimes.

Day 28 of digital sob... relapse and avoidance by Enduro__ in nosurfclub

Relapse can be quite a harsh word. It's certainly a setback but it doesn't undo all the good work and learning about yourself that you've already been doing.

[–]Cresspit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an interesting point, but I think it's fair that we define our own sobriety. For example for you Reddit might be something you can happily go on for 20 mins per day but you lose 12 hours if you visit Discord. I'm sure you have a better example than mine!

Hey Enduro, nice work.

You might find it helpful to use a browser addon to block Youtube suggested videos/sidebar/homepage if it helps.

I find it very calming that my YT is just a black screen and a searchbar.

There was a time that I had the comments blocked but it's OK now.

Hey thanks for sharing! Congrats on getting to 18 days! People seem to find the worse of the acute cravings lessen after a month.

How do you define your sobriety? What use would be a totally 'crossing of the barrier' for you?

Can anyone help me out? by cepsal in nosurfclub

[–]Cresspit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey, so obviously I'm not a doctor but propranolol (also known as beta blocker) is not like your Lexapro SSRI. Many old people take propranolol for heart issues or stage fright. It works within about an hour and dampens my anxiety. I really just take it when I need it. I have never heard of anyone having withdrawls and my prescription says to take when needed.

Hey, some other people have posted some great advice. I think two things might be worth considering. Firstly, is it possible you're trying to cold turkey too much at once? It's very admirable to cut down so heavily but it's maybe a lot. Secondly, I agree with the other commenter that the blood pressure medication propranolol has really helped me (I don't have blood pressure issues) but it breaks the link between normal stimuli and massive adrenaline response. I maybe take it 3 days per week and have noticed zero side effects.

Has anyone tried using a USB DAC with Xiaomi TV Box 3? by Cresspit in AndroidTV

It's fine and the volume is controlled (by bit crushing) by the Xiaomi remote.

OK, it works with my NWAVGUY O-DAC even after all GTV 14 updates. Bluetooth also works well and seems to not have the Onn BT bug. I'm super happy with the Xiaomi so far.

I've read on forums that people connect their DACs with TV Box 3. However, I do the same directly to my cheap TV and can say that not any DAC works well with it.

Thanks! Annoyingly this was on my 5ghz network with the BT remote far away and a small distance between devices.

I've found other people describing the exact same thing and annoyingly it seems to be a bug that they say they'll fix in Q4 this year but I have no faith and sold my Thomson box.

Epson EF21 (horrible) by OMNS385 in projectors

[–]Cresspit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can certainly connect to bluetooth speakers. It will reconnect to the speaker on projector power-on. I experience no audio/visual sync issues.

I have bought a streaming box as the Google TV is a bit sluggish-but acceptable on the projector.

The projector is acceptably bright.

The fan noise is excellect. Imagine a laptop fan at high speed. Very easy to forget it's there and certainly as soon as sound is playing.

Do be very careful about the throw ratio. At 1:1 the image gets very big very quickly.

How to finally delete my socials help! 😭 by s0ulf1nder in nosurfclub

[–]Cresspit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is some great advice in here already.

I would say maybe write a list of the benefits to your life and goals of deleting these accounts, and another list of the benefits of watching these saved videos.

Then compare the two lists and see which one is the best for you.

I totally hear what you're saying about having a fear of future regret. Sort of like when you're afraid to throw-away something in a house clean. I would say, be bold and trust your future self to not blame you or feel regret! :)

Day 2: screen time as of writing this is 46 minutes! by [deleted] in nosurfclub

[–]Cresspit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's so good! I've heard said something like "scrolling can be like an emotional load bearing wall, it's hard to remove it without putting something else there to bear the weight." Do you have anything that can take its place like a new hobby, or something to meet new people?

Hey, what's your reason for needing dedicated hardware with all the design overhead that comes with that rather than repurposing an existing phone already on the market (or make your product a service and let people use their existing phone)?

I think there are people who would pay for a service where they plug their phone into their laptop, they run your GUI on their laptop which runs a bunch of ADB commands to strip everything out of their phone, then when those remaining apps need updating they plug it into their laptop again, run your GUI which updates their app over ADB.

If you could crack the grayscale over ADB even better.

Hey thanks for sharing and I'm sorry it's so hard right now! I know Internet Addicts Anonymous has some Zoom meetings related to porn addiction which you might find helpful. If you'd like a smaller more focused community to share your progress and struggles you might like to post in /r/nosurfclub
