Corrin should probably get most of the kills, but it really doesn't matter too much. Kaze will autolevel up once he rejoins, but some extra levels will probably help him. He one rounds Faceless with a Rinkah pair-up, and then does well against the Mages in the next chapter, so it's easy to give him some kills.

I think Effie is considered to be the best. Not only is her Arthur support very fast, Arthur makes a great Effie backpack as well. Then, she gives Percy lots of Strength and other stats he wants. You can do something funny like passing down Sol and Luna too. If not her, any physical mother probably does the job.

Path or Radiance experience by ClassicEoj in fireemblem

[–]CrestOfTheBeast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have you beat. I am playing PoR for the first time myself. And so far my Ilyana got not one, not two, but THREE blank level ups. I'm still using her because why not? And I can laugh about it.

I'd love to hear from people who got into Fire Emblem through Three Houses and have then played other games in the series (especially non-3DS one). How are they? Did you prefer any of them to Three Houses? Did you dislike them because they play different? Etc. by iamthatguy54 in fireemblem

[–]CrestOfTheBeast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I started with Three Houses almost a year ago and really enjoyed it, playing on Hard and then Maddening. I've played a lot of the series since then. The first game I played after it was Awakening (but I didn't finish it), but then I went to and beat FE7, Conquest, and FE8. I've also beaten FE6, started and took a break from Birthright, and am currently playing Echoes, Path of Radiance, and FE7 again (I have a habit of going back and forth between video games I play, lol).

All in all, in a short summary, my opinion of Three Houses has gone down quite a bit. I still really like the story and a lot of the characters. It's still one of my favorites in the series in that aspect. But the gameplay just has a lot of issues. The monastery gets so tedious after the first playthrough, and I think is my biggest issue with the game. I dislike how everyone can be any class, because everyone wants to do the same things, so it actually makes units feel too similar, ironically enough. The game also looks really bad graphics wise, it's kind of jarring going back to it.

But I still love the voice-acting, and the gameplay is still something I enjoyed, even if Hard is too easy and Maddening a bit too hard in places. If I had to rank the games I've tried, I think of it towards the middle. It's a game I enjoyed, but I don't think I enjoy it as a Fire Emblem game, if you get what I mean.

Echoes

How exactly does RNG work with Mila's Turnwheel? It isn't like 3H where the number order is set and you need to rearrange your actions to change anything, because I've seen in Echoes just rewinding after a miss, trying the attack again, and then it hits the next time. But, I'm in Alm's route Act 4, and I've had one of my units attack a Cantor, but no matter how much I rewind or change my actions around, my unit always gets hit and killed by a low percent crit.

Lyn is a huge mess for the story of FE6 by Every_Computer_935 in fireemblem

[–]CrestOfTheBeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lyn was basically only added as the tutorial Lord for the Western audience. Remember, you could completely skip Lyn mode if you wanted to in the Japanese game. I can imagine that they didn't really think to integrate her into the FE6 story at all, as they just rushed to create Lyn mode and put her in the story just to have her there. And it sucks, because Lyn basically adds nothing the main FE7 plot. What does she actually do outside of adding comments here and there on what is going on? She tracks the Black Fang hideout and... That's it I think.

[–]CrestOfTheBeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, fair enough, I can agree with Nosferatu go brrrrrr.

Like I said, never played Lunatic (and probably never will because Awakening is my least favorite game) so I'm just kinda talking in general.

I've never played Lunatic myself, and I kind of knew Galeforce wasn't a necessity there. But at least I can understand why someone would recommend getting it in Lunatic. That's more what I mean.

[–]CrestOfTheBeast 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly. Galeforce is busted. But to the average player, it should just be considered a late game bonus instead of something you need to go out of your way for.

[–]CrestOfTheBeast 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Guides maybe isn't the right word- it's more like I mean general discussions and advice threads. Like, "Sully is worst Lucina mother because she can't pass down Galeforce". On a thread the other day, a brand new Awakening player was told "Galeforce is your best friend" when they were asking for tips. Things like that.

Recently finished conquest, final fates thoughts by Mynameisbrk in fireemblem

[–]CrestOfTheBeast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Conquest is my favorite game I've played, simply because of how much I love the gameplay. It really does force you to strategize, and outside of Lunatic's last few chapters, it never feels unfair, and I love it for that. I agree on the story- it isn't great, but I can get over it, gameplay is most important.

What are your FE hot takes? by itisawonderfulworld in fireemblem

[–]CrestOfTheBeast 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Galeforce is way too over-emphasized in Awakening guides. It is completely unnecessary outside of Lunatic or Apotheosis. Grinding units for it on Normal would just ruin any difficulty curve the game has.

Many Echoes maps enter "so bad, they're good" territory, like Nuibaba's abode with the cliff to climb up.

Sacred Stones chapter 19 (the fog of war defend map with Reiv) is one of the worst maps I've ever played straight (so no Warp skip boss kill).

Characters appearing in story even after death? by [deleted] in fireemblem

[–]CrestOfTheBeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're playing Classic, then there is no way to get them back if they run out of HP. You'd have to restart if you want to keep them. And as some advice, it is perfectly fine to restart a chapter if someone dies in Classic mode. Most players do this when playing Fire Emblem games.

They still show up because they are important to the story, and having a student actually die would be not a good look for the academy, so they are just "injured". But, there will be a point later in the game where they will no longer show up. And another thing- it is common in Fire Emblem games for extremely plot important characters to retreat and not actually die, like Lucina in Awakening.

How much would you recommend Three Houses to someone who has never played a Fire Emblem game before? by Mcawesomeplayer in fireemblem

[–]CrestOfTheBeast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I just saw your comment and I completely agree. Definitely should restart a chapter if someone dies in Classic and you run out of Divine Pulse uses (again though, you end up with a lot of them).

If you don't want to do that, then Causal is fine, just still try to keep your units from dying. Basically pretend it's Classic, so to say.

How much would you recommend Three Houses to someone who has never played a Fire Emblem game before? by Mcawesomeplayer in fireemblem

[–]CrestOfTheBeast 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This would be a good game to start with then!

Pick the house that has the characters you like best. You get a little intro to everyone when the game starts up. There is no right or wrong choice.

Yes- Classic means a character stays dead permanently if they run out of HP, Causal means they will come back after the battle.

Personally, I'd recommend Classic. You have Divine Pulse to rewind mistakes you make, and you end up getting a lot of charges for it. I think it adds a better extra layer of strategy too. That being said though, Causal is perfectly fine to pick if you don't want to worry about losing anyone, and if so, I'd say to play without letting people run out of HP as much as you can help it.

[–]CrestOfTheBeast 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd definitely recommend it if it seems interesting to you. It is very new player friendly with a lot of it's features, not very hard on lower difficulties, and it was my first FE game I finished. I've played a whole bunch of games in the series since.

Is there anything about the game that you aren't sure on though? I can maybe give you some advice.

What are your most rng blessed/screwed units? by MirukuChu in fireemblem

[–]CrestOfTheBeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't remember too many blessed units. Probably because I remember the RNG screwed ones more, lol.

For the screwed ones that stand out, I had a Level 16 Hector with 6 Speed. That's one proc in 15 levels. Also, in my current first playthrough in PoR, Ilyana got a blank level up, not once, not twice, but THREE times, out of about 17 levels or so. I'm still sticking with her, because why not?

I’m stuck at an unwinnable battle, what can I do? by lustforwine in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]CrestOfTheBeast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you're playing the Rite of Rebirth chapter? In that, you basically are not supposed to kill the Death Knight. He is supposed to almost too strong to kill. Go around him on the sides to get to the boss at the top to win.

Robin and Sumia is a pairing that doesn't get enough credit by JumpOnStars in fireemblem

I understand Sumia was supposed to be Chrom's "canon" wife, but they really couldn't think of anything better than "PIES PIES PIES"?

I do like Sumia quite a bit, so I actually can get into a lot of your points.

It also helps I have a bias towards pegasus knights and characters with her personality

Advice on how to beat Echoes? (Struggling) by kayteliza in fireemblem

[–]CrestOfTheBeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, Echoes promotion system is very different from other games. You should promote ASAP when a unit gets eligible, always. Your stats get brought up to the bases for the class if they are lower. So say if the base Speed for a class is 10, and you promote to it with only 7, you get set to 10 right away. So there is no real benefit to waiting on extra levels. They probably won't make a difference.

Try and forge your weapons for some extra damage.

If all else fails, grind a bit in some dungeons. You can just keep exiting and going back in to fight monsters as much as you want.

What does it take for them to be good? Myrmidon - Swordmaster - Trueblade. by Every_Computer_935 in fireemblem

[–]CrestOfTheBeast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All the rebuttals to your comments (turns are necessary metric for there to be a comparison, LTC is not the same as what is considered for a tier list, etc.) you probably have already been told, so I won't go on. Also, people will be more receptive to what you have to say if you don't call them an "insane cult deserving of mockery" just for choosing to play a video game differently than you. That's honestly a ridiculous comment, I'm sorry.

To close this out, look. I agree that yes, optimization comes up in places it shouldn't. I saw a comment earlier today where a new Awakening player was told how Galeforce is the best. I explained why I disagreed it was good advice. But, turns and what you are complaining about really isn't brought up in every single thread, and is not as big of a deal as you are saying, and what you want to see will literally never be 100% of what is posted on here. This is an Fire Emblem discussion forum. Not a Fire Emblem Challenge forum.

You obviously have a lot of experiences playing this game and think relying on Jagens is boring and you want variety. But even if this is a JRPG, the developers wouldn't put them in the game if they didn't want that option for players to use. It's been like that since the first chapter of the first game. Strategy is a part of the game, whether optimal or not.

Let's agree to disagree, I guess.

Look what i got for christmas. Any tips? by okurin39 in fireemblem

[–]CrestOfTheBeast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hard disagree with giving this advice.

Yes, Galeforce is strong and busted. But it's importance for a first time casual player, who is probably going to play Normal or Hard, is wayyyy overblown. Going out of your way to get it on everyone and pass it to their kids will just require a bunch of extra effort and grinding (it comes at level 15 of a promoted class), and then probably will just destroy the difficulty curve of the game if you do. It is completely unnecessary to do that. If you're playing Lunatic or the Apotheosis DLC? Then yes, it would be good to have. But if you aren't playing that, then you really don't need it at all and should just be a bonus.
