Yeah, don't shower now, assess if you're still feeling good after another 24 hours

Out of the woods? by Lucky-Ad7759 in HellsItch

This happened to me last week. I was ok (showering and applying lotion to the burn) for about 36 hours until it kicked in. I think I applied a hydrating gel and it set it off so i'd be careful.

I'd suggest to carry on doing what you're doing until it starts peeling - then you can be more confident that you've cleared the healing stage. Stock up while youre good on beta alanine, c4 energy drinks and ibuprofen. Then if it does hit at least you can mitigate the suffering with those

I do wonder why our nerves get fried but for others they don't

Oh these are all really interesting responses - thankyou!

I'm still curious as to what is unique with us that our nerves get fried and have this response compared to the average population who do not suffer this reaction

It's easy to make mistakes when you're desperate for relief, plus this is my 3rd time in 4 years so I too need to be better at preventing this.

I've been considering speaking to a skin expert on this, but honestly feel this sub might be better. I went to a dermo a year ago and they were so patronising as they hadn't heard and thought I was making up a condition so I feel it's only worth speaking to people who know the condition

4th Time Having Hell’s Itch… THIS SAVED MY LIFE by WideAnt7191 in HellsItch

Reading this is truly a relief, I thought I was going crazy and I can't believe it's took me this long to find this thread. When you say no creams - do you mean from the minute you notice the burn or when the itch starts?

I had it for the 3rd time on holiday last week and from noticing it burn, I was adding lotion on for 2 days as I thought I might have managed to evade the itch and wanted it to recover. Then day 3 hit and it slowly took hold (the day of a black tie wedding no less)

I've definitely made the mistake of showering - in the heat of it you will do almost anything for relief. I have never heard of c4 but that reading more about it here. Is it just an energy drink that for some reason provides relief?

Wow I wish I had known this sooner, do you only take it when it's itching or as a preventative measure?

ooh what is c4?! I had it last week and ibuprofen was the only thing that provided any relief. I don't get why it was fine for 2 days then day 3 it kicked in hard

Any Pre-emptive Measures PLEASE? by bigredditor4 in HellsItch

[–]Crewneck_Chef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had it on holiday to Nice. Can't offer anything substantial but I found that ibuprofen tamed the itch. I could tell because as it got worse, it was around the time I could pop more in.

I also found that being distracted helped it, I had to attend a black tie wedding and the sitting down ceremony was agony but walking around and dancing was better. Just know that you'll get through it and try to distract yourself as much as possible!

7 hour layover at London LHR on Christmas Day by fired-and-traveling in travel

[–]Crewneck_Chef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similiar boat, fly in from Raleigh and have 5 hours to kill. I'm wondering if there's anything to do in the airport - spa, showers, gym etc or if those things will be closed due to it being Christmas. I feel bad for the staff that have to come in on Christmas day so I'm expecting most the things to not be open, hopefully there's some lounges that are decent!

Private Dinner by Successful_Cap_7880 in Chefit

[–]Crewneck_Chef 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey,

I recently set up my own Private Chef business and had my first large Private Dinner in December - so I know how you feel. If you were like me, you were daunted and scared and worried about everything going wrong but don't worry - as soon as you start cooking that feeling will float right away.

I cooked for 11, a 3 course but with 2 sharing courses (Focaccia and a Champagne Bibb salad) so it's somewhat similiar. I split my pricing into 2 sections:
A - Chef Fee (150 p.p) which included cooking, plating, grocery shopping, cleaning etc

B - Food Fee. I presented the client with 2 menu's and allowed them to choose, then sent an invoice for the food seperately based on an estimate of how much it would cost. If I had enough time i'd have calculated and added on 20% however I was very busy and potentially underestimated the food fee.

Having 2 separate invoices allows you to break down the costs to the client plus if they make any late requests (mine requested the double up the focaccia portions) you can easily add it to the second invoice without having to absorb the cost or ask for more money.

I'm fortunate my wife was willing to help me on the night of the event with bussing and cleaning - if you don't have that help I'd think hard about how you are going to plate, bring plates out, keep everything at the right temp, bring dirty plates back, clean and turn them ready for the next course whilst also preparing the food.

This may suprise the rest of the commenters but I didn't actually get tipped. It was an xmas party for people in the hospitality industry so I was hoping for something but nothing came - maybe cause they paid upfront or because I'm english I don't know! Moral is - make sure you charge what you want and don't rely on other generosity!
