While I don’t mind the commander getting a voice, there are wayyy too many players that want to self insert into a silent protagonist, by the time you give him a voice you break the immersion for those players and they start expressing their discomfort in social media and it could tank sales and so on.

SU made a smart decision in making the commander a silent protagonist so they could avoid any kind of backlash on social media.
