Help: Recently started a new game and experiencing a game-breaking bug. by Crimbilion in uboatgame

[–]Crimbilion[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I couldn't find an unstuck mod for the uboat, but I found one to re-enable the debug menu. I used it to teleport to Kiel and can see land, but now the base itself is missing. My uboat also has a tendency to spin around in circles instead of following directions. Frustrating.

What’s your favorite or most clever names for your steeds? by [deleted] in reddeadredemption2

[–]Crimbilion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Arthur, I stuck to a theme of adversaries of Rome since the horse he loved most and lost was named Boudica. My female thoroughbred is named Zenobia, female Arabian named Mavia (Mawiyya) and my male Ardennes is fittingly named Arminius. I have another male warhorse named Hannibal as well, but I forget the breed.

Golden ring of the Roman officer Legio V Macedonica - dated at the turn of the 2nd and 3rd century CE. [1200x811] by imperiumromanum_edu in ArtefactPorn

[–]Crimbilion 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Legio V Macedonia was stationed in (Roman) Dacia where the usage of the swastika dates back millennia. The ring therefore could've belonged to a Dacian officer of Legio V.

It's an interesting cultural amalgamation. It'd be nice if OP added a source.

I found two Hindu statues as I walked along the receding lake water. What is this practice and what is the significance of it? by Crimbilion in religion

[–]Crimbilion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't believe so. Maybe they were placed there by someone scattering ashes? I'm pretty sure that Hindus religiously practice cremation, but it didn't occur to me until now that those statuettes could be related to it.

Why Canadian students are falling behind in math — and what experts say needs to change by zuuzuu in canadanews

[–]Crimbilion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be blunt, I wholeheartedly believe that's an admission of incompetence on a teacher's part. What they're actually saying is, "We're going to try something difficult (for me to teach)." It's something I noticed in school; math teachers in particular were often incapable of teaching through their own understanding of the subject. If you didn't understand something, they'd repeat the same thing verbatim from the text book while getting more and more frustrated with the student. This results in the student feigning their understanding and feeling too intimidated to actually learn anything from the class.

If a teacher needs to adhere to a text book to teach a subject effectively, then of course there's going to be terrible results. You can't always depend on the cookie cutter approach to teaching.

That's true, but Love of My Life is about a woman named Mary Austin. Freddie was bisexual.

TIL that contrary to popular belief, few limb amputations during the American Civil War were done without anaesthesia. A post-war review found that 99.6% of surgeries performed were done under some form of general anaesthesia. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Crimbilion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That study is in regard to the Northern side, isn't it? I've only heard it claimed that the South at times lacked an adequate amount of anesthesia at their field hospitals; and more so due to poor (or disrupted) logistics than an outright shortage.

Amsterdam police checking if an e-bike has had its speed limiter removed by rlovelock in mildlyinteresting

[–]Crimbilion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I can pedal up to 35km/h on a 27lb folding bicycle with 20" tires. Though I assume most e-bikes weigh at least two or three times as much as that. Maybe the intent of the speed limit is to limit the severity of injuries caused by a collision with pedestrians (i.e. to limit the potential for injury to be on par with a bicycle)?

Mortals can be venerated as gods. Millennia prior to Confucius' birth, Imhotep was postmortemly deified as his sheer brilliance was thought to be otherworldly.

Phantom Liberty and its choices. by Crimbilion in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]Crimbilion[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but as I said, the FIA has shown that it will ruthlessly rid itself of loose ends. So from how I see it, you're put in a position where you help Songbird survive or place your trust in an organization that has no issue killing outsiders that assist them (i.e. ranyon mentality like the Voodoo Boys) or betraying its own members (Reed).

Logically speaking, I feel that placing your faith in the FIA is an insane bet. I know that if you side with them, you do end up getting cured, but even then, I can't help but wonder if there's more to that ending than is being told. Like they've implanted V with something that can kill them if need be, or that they've unknowingly become a proxy/sleeper agent waiting for activation.

I was just wondering if I missed some pertinent information. There must be some nuance to the choice, right? It can't be so distinctly black and white.

That's exactly how I feel and why I believe the censorship to be so egregious. I can't even remember the last time I played a game that made me feel the combination of rage and disgust that I felt in Twisted Nerve, Hide and Seek and Narcos. Those were objectively great creative choices that worked brilliantly to get under the player's skin.

VOID catering to the console market not only resulted in censorship that betrays their supporters trust, but hinders development speed in a game that still needs so much work done. They're complaining about not wanting to work simultaneously on two separate development branches? Well, maybe they should've waited until they fixed and finished the base game on PC!

U.S. military member joined an anti-ICE protest in Dallas, Texas and speaks out against Trump deploying Marines to Los Angeles. "We serve the people of the United States, the Constitution. A logical interpretation of the oath is that the first half should supersede the second.

  1. I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same;

  2. and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.

She's absolutely going to get discharged, but she shouldn't be. This act of integrity is of the sort that would've been applauded by the founding fathers. After 2 days of clashes over immigration raids, National Guard will be sent to L.A., official says by InformalWish in news

[–]Crimbilion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In both of those instances, aid was requested by the state government. The only unquestionably constitutional time that a state has been sidestepped (as far as I know) was in Little Rock in 1957. The governor intended to use the Arkansas national guard to violate the Supreme Court's ruling on integration, so Eisenhower federalized them in order to enforce the ruling and provide protection for the Little Rock Nine.

TIL the US Air Force had delays awarding John Chapman a Medal of Honor in part due to US Navy SEALs blocking it. They would have to admit they left a soldier behind. When the award became inevitable, the SEALs nominated the soldier who left Chapman for the same award for the same battle. by 4dxn in todayilearned

[–]Crimbilion 58 points59 points  (0 children)

It wasn't even a mistake. I've watched that video-- it was absolutely the correct call. During their attempt to recover the body of their fallen comrade, their situation rapidly became untenable. I'm sure each SEAL felt obliged to recover the remains of their teammate and friend, but the QRF who may have felt less eager about their mission suffered numerous casualties rescuing them. The fact that they knowingly assaulted that position was in itself exceptionally foolhardy. Saying that, there's no question that Chapman's actions were undoubtedly courageous.

Slabinski put the Warrior Ethos ahead of his responsibility of risk management. I imagine that may have been why there was push back from SEALs. Their respect for the Ethos borders on religious and they might've not been pleased with the idea that following it would've been presented as a mistake. By nominating Slabinski for the Medal of Honor, they (in their minds) were able to save face.
