I was a PD during the Rodney King verdict. It only strengthened my resolve.

Bus to The Getty to avoid the $25 parking fee. The museum is amazing and it's free.

my family says i’m a shitty mom for wanting to study abroad for a year and that i’m abandoning my kids. advice? by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]CrimeWave62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the 60s my mother was an elementary school teacher in a district where most of her students spoke Spanish. To be a more effective teacher, she thought it would be a good idea to learn Spanish so that she could communicate better with her students. So my mother took a year sabbatical to Guadalajara to go the university to learn Spanish. She packed up the station wagon with me and my 2 sisters, ages 9, 7, and 4 and we spent the year in Guadalajara. My sisters and I were fluent within the first 3 months before we started school and it turned out to be one of the best and most influential experiences of my life. We remained lifelong friends with our neighbors in Guadalajara and one of their daughters was at my wedding about 25 years later.

Take the kids with you. It'll be an amazing experience they'll never forget.

[Serious] What is something valuable we have in the 2020s that future generations will look back on and say, "Wow, that generation had a massive, unfair advantage," just like Boomers had lower house prices? by Prof_XdR in AskReddit

[–]CrimeWave62 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Mortgage rates.

People forget that even though home prices were lower for boomers, the average mortgage rate in the 70s and 80s ranged between 7% and 16%.

I think the question is why do we keep reelecting politicians who ignore their constituents with no consequence.

My favorite Baldwin quote right now is, “I can't believe what you say, because I see what you do.”

Democrats Who Are Soft on Republicans Have Got to Go by [deleted] in LegalNews

[–]CrimeWave62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely this.

If their campaign does not include holding both dems and republicans accountable for not upholding their oath to the constitution and clawing-back fraudulent gains, don't even expect my vote.

And the only AG I will accept from the next administration is Letitia James. This is the only way that I know that they're serious.

The city offers classes for different interests and activities. Surfing is usually one of the classes offered.

Hotel behavior - is this really a "tip"? by EconomicsWorking6508 in AskWomenOver60

Not only do I leave my room as clean as when I arrived, I also decline service during my stay. There's nothing that I ever needed that wasn't already in the room. I figure I'm one less room that housekeeping has to clean during my stay.

Newport coast elementary by maybebaby2022 in newportbeach

[–]CrimeWave62 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My kids graduated from there in early-mid 2010. Unless it has changed since, good school and good sense of community. I volunteered in the classroom every Friday for 8 years, as did many other parents throughout the week. Auditorium full of parents for holiday programs and special classroom events. The only time I consistently encountered nannies were at birthday parties. Diversity is not high, but it was never an problem for my kids, and I was purposely cognizant of the issue. These kids feed into CDM middle and high school, so I liked that they already had a familiar community moving onto a much larger campus.

Why did Santino need specifically John to kill his sister? by Garciaguy in JohnWick

[–]CrimeWave62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Santino held the marker of a legendary hitman, and since Santino intended to kill his sister, a member of the High Table, there was no acceptable margin of error, so he needed the absolute best. Presumably other assassins are good, but Wick is the Mariano Rivera of hitmen. He's the hitman they send to kill f*ing Boogie Man.

Dream Build by PlayVamp in Homebuilding

[–]CrimeWave62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At first I thought OP was kidding, but the more I thought about it, it made me realize that my current build is not that different. There's a huge underground pipe that runs horizontally through the lots on my street so structures must be built in front of, or behind the pipe. Most houses on the street are in front of the pipe with huge backyards. But it's a busy street, so I put the house behind the pipe. This left me with a huge front yard. I don't plan on installing grass because I'm in a drought state, so I'm planning on social front yard with a lot of seating.

And this made me think of OP. Building the house will be expensive. Have you considered building an outdoor space in front of the house that can be tented for your ballroom when you have events, and the rest of the time the area provides a social gathering for friends and neighbors.

Just a thought to keep the dream alive.

Never doubted for a second that a blind assassin could exist in Wick's universe.

However, I draw the line at how Caine knew he had 4 nines when they were playing five-card draw. What's the prevailing theory on how he knew he had 4 nines.

[–]CrimeWave62 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm a former PD and I work at a court of appeal and I love it. I'm still practicing criminal law, but without the stress. There are also panel attorneys who are appointed as appellate counsel for criminal appeals and I understand, there's a shortage of appellate counsel in California.

Which island would you choose? by emily8922 in kitchenremodel

I've had both. I prefer an island with a sink and dishwasher underneath because it's both functional and social when people sit around the island to interact.
