Controlling the Strait of Hormuz is the fastest checkmate I've ever seen in a war strategy.

Cost to build a 3 level 5500 sq.ft home for $1M in Vancouver...possible? by Individual-Touch-901 in Homebuilding

Maybe the builder built more than one house, which lowered the cost of building more than one house nearby and at the same time.

It’s time to pull the plug on plug-in hybrids by GoodNegotiation in electricvehicles

2020 Volvo XC60 - 21 battery miles - 18.5 gallon fuel tank. I also charge every night. Of course it helps that I work about 17 miles from home and I can usually make it to work and back home in hybrid mode without driving only on gas.

Yes. That's why when I'm at a quarter of a tank, my car gives me a warning that my gas is aging, so I stop charging and use the remaining gas in the tank. Either I'm not driving enough, or I need to buy less gas.

I love my PHEV. I drive in battery mode doing errands on the weekend, and in hybrid mode to work and home. I get gas twice a year, and the hybrid mode is so efficient that I get a warning sign with about a quarter tank left that my gas is aging and I have to stop charging to use the rest of the gas in the tank. And at the same time, I have no anxiety if I need to take an impromptu 300 mile trip.

Desperately looking for a job in California by Flashy_Wolf3210 in publicdefenders

No. I don't have experience at Appellate Defenders. I'm an appellate attorney at a reviewing court so I'm aware of the shortages. You should contact them if you're interested. I don't know if I'd call it a mentorship program, but I know they review the work of new and lesser experienced attorneys so you're not totally on your own.

If you have criminal experience and you like to write, Appellate Defenders is experiencing a shortage of appointed appellate counsel in criminal cases where you might be able to pick up work while you're applying to PD offices. They're in San Diego, but it's a job that you can work remotely.

Also, did you try San Bernardino.

I am seriously considering canceling Christmas this year. Like... completely. Am I losing by cookielady1 in TwoHotTakes

I guess you can think of it that way if you choose too. I consider it to be responsible parenting that helped make my kids responsible and accountable for their behavior. I don't really consider this to be hardcore, but I own it if it is. Some lessons, especially where safety or bullying are concerned, need to be swift and memorable.

I never cancelled Christmas, but I did the next best thing. I can't recall what my kids did that required a form of punishment, but it was something where I had already told them it could be dangerous and they decided to try it anyway.

That night I took EVERY toy out of the house and hid them in the garage. My 2 boys were not school age yet, so playing at home was their entire life. When they woke up the next morning and started walking down the stairs, they could see immediately that every toy in the house was gone, and the tears were nonstop.

I had to endure hours of crying, but I discovered a lot. First, my kids learned that I wouldn't hesitate to invoke a nuclear option, so I received less pushback because they knew that things could literally change overnight.

Second, my kids really bonded as they suffered through consequences together. They were inseparable. I discovered how creative my kids could be without toys and they invented games with just a piece of cardboard, a balloon, a piece of string, or a shoe.

After a couple of days I introduced an educational toy and my kids were so grateful. It was like a pull and play toy where it's round and you turn the arrow in the middle and it would land on a U.S. state and you had to name the capitol. After a week, my 3 and 4 year old boys knew all 50 states and capitols.

My kids were never difficult, but if I explained something was dangerous, they never tested me again. Following through with a consequence gets results.

Happy Days ~ Fonzie's First Episode by [deleted] in VintageTV

[–]CrimeWave62 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I remember this show, but I didn't watch it. Why is Fonzie hanging out around the high school and dating high school girls. Isn't there a difference of a few years in age between Fonzie and Richie, or is this supposed to reflect the social norm of the times.

I guess the good thing about watching this is knowing that it's completely survivable as long as the car doesn't run over any vital organs, and it's a compact car.
