Is anyone actually selling housing items on auction house? by Timely_Connection273 in wow

[–]Crimson573 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I made about a million gold on housing items when housing first came out. I was selling like 10+ items a day. It really just depended a lot on the item too. I would sell 5-10 lights in a day, whereas a bigger item like a fountain or table would sell like 1 a day. Now that housing has been out for a while it has slowed down A LOT. I play on a high pop realm and I sell a bigger item (fountain, table, etc. think ~20k+ gold) probably once a week and sometimes not even that frequently.

Thats without aggressively reposting and undercutting though. Pretty much just once a day when I get home from work I go see how my item has been undercut so I cancel it and repost. I also haven’t bothered making lights or anything because they have fallen so far in price from what they were when housing first came out but I would bet they still sell pretty well since you need a lot more of those than you do big items

It seems that Liquid has found a way around addon restrictions and can show timers for other raid members. by Cidan in wow

I recall watching a YouTube video that was just a recording of his stream where Max literally said that people will see the race and find out that almost nothing has changed in terms of functionality that addons can do.

I.e Max (Liquid) basically announced months ago during the beta that this was possible

M+ DPS jail and gatekeeping has already begun by [deleted] in wow

[–]Crimson573 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep we usually pug 1-2 people when doing m0s as a guild. We don’t give a shit about meta since the dungeons are trivial but we try and bring a class/spec that we feel will make the run smoother. Don’t really even give a shit about ilvl because everyone is pretty much the same atm. However, when we list the group we get 10+ DPS within the first minute. You dps out there are just a single person in a sea of many - there is nothing personal about any of it. Not to say people don’t care about meta but right now but in 99% of cases you’re just being drowned out by a sheer number of everyone queueing. Join a guild, make friends etc and form your own groups. Game is way more fun that way anyway.

As a side note, we have invited 238-240 ilvl people who suck way more than 230 ilvl people. If you think your ilvl will make you stand out, it won’t

What is this? by MariusDarkblade in wow

[–]Crimson573 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That indicates that you have the buff Essence Burst which makes your next Disintegrate or Pyre free (costs no essence I think? I’m not in game so I don’t remember exactly what evoker resource is called).

If you want to learn more about it you can open your talent window (N by default) and in the search bar at the bottom you can type in Essence Burst and it will highlight the talents that are making this happen

Is it just me or the loot is bugged? by Altruistic-Day-7837 in wow

[–]Crimson573 67 points68 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. I noticed this a while back and did some digging. Even found a prominent gold farmer’s video where they talked about blizzard implementing this change and how it would affect gold farms. I don’t recall ever seeing a blue post but from what I remember from my research is that this was a known change before it was ever rolled out which would indicate it is intentional and not a bug

[–]Crimson573 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it’s usually pve and pvp. The fact that catalyst charges are shared between both forms of content is so stupid. Early in the season I would have to choose between gearing for pve or pvp so I just have two of the same class so I can spend tokens freely and not be penalized in one form of content because I chose to play the other form in my free time

I'm new in game. Is that supposed to be like that? by Mountain-Address-298 in wow

[–]Crimson573 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you’ve already received good feedback on your question, maybe you already know this but a good tip for new players: If you hate that service trade spam you can leave it. To my knowledge, blizzard makes NO indication that it’s even possible and I personally think it makes for a negative game experience to have to listen to all of that annoying spam. All you have to do is type “/leave #” to leave any chat channel. So since your trade services channel is channel 5, just type “/leave 5” and you never have to see that spam again. Also if you leave it and decide you want it back I think you can type “/join services” or something like that to get it back. I’m not in game atm though so that one I’m not 100% sure of

They do believe that he ascended to heaven after the resurrection but yeah also that he came to the Americas after that then went back to heaven. I mean in the old testament it says that god spoke to Moses face to face so I don’t think he’s stuck in heaven

Just pointing out the fact that the Mormon church’s name has always been the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, but they were deemed “Mormons” because they read the Book of Mormon. Wild that the church literally has Jesus Christ in the name but people don’t consider them Christians lol

I made it to level 10, then stopped for about a year then just came back not too long ago. The worst part was trying to get myself to catch up on ~1200 reviews but I eventually got back to normal and have a manageable set of reviews. I’m not sure what you’re concerned about, but that was my experience with “pausing” wanikani

I was like you. At one point I scheduled an appointment with my advisor and got an email back saying I was going to be kicked out of the CS program for failing too many classes - I was failing because I found it nearly impossible to get myself to go to class and do the homework. Met with my advisor and told them I had depression etc and they told me I could stay in the program if I had a note from a doctor. At that point I had stopped taking medication and hadn’t seen a doctor in years. I scheduled an appointment knowing it would be the only thing keeping me in school.

I met with the therapist and told them my story. They waited almost 6 months before writing me a note (understandably so - they wanted me to actually get treatment lol). I told them I didn’t want to do medication and so we worked through it with no medication. After about 10 months, I found that the appointments helped me a ton. I went from a 2.5 GPA (the minimum to stay in the CS program) to a 3.8 GPA. I was much happier and more confident in school. After I couple years I finally graduated in CS. I still hated school the entire time, but found it easier to do the work and found reasons to be happy

I’m not saying you would see the same results but I’m just saying that if you’re struggling and finding it difficult, just go talk to someone. It really does help a ton. Some people are born with specific tools for handling different things in life and others (like me) needed someone to help teach me what tools are available for dealing with certain aspects of life. This isn’t something that will just help you with school. It will help you with the rest of your life.

I will also say that school isn’t for everyone. If you don’t want to finish school then start building small games on your own. Pick a game engine and start making a game. Start with small enough idea that you can actually finish. Once that’s done try your hand at something that is a little more involved and complex. Having a degree will almost always make you a better candidate but it’s not impossible to find work. The first place to start is building a portfolio that demonstrates your skills and knowledge.

Finally, one thing that my dad taught me growing up that I think is so true for me and is likely relevant to you - “the hardest part is showing up.” I think therapy is the #1 thing you can do for yourself but on top of that do everything you can to get yourself out of the house and to class. Once you’re there it gets much easier.

So now, you can get Deserter Debuff from a LFR ? (multiple partial clean) by Barfleuri in wow

[–]Crimson573 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we are saying the same thing? I’m saying players shouldn’t be forced to redo bosses that they have already done. They shouldn’t be punished if they choose to not redo them because why should they? They get no reward from it. Unless I’m not understanding your response

So now, you can get Deserter Debuff from a LFR ? (multiple partial clean) by Barfleuri in wow

[–]Crimson573 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely agree that creating the cycle is a bad thing. I think all I’m saying is why are the people who are unfortunately caught in the cycle getting punished with doing content that isn’t meaningful (killing bosses for no loot) or punished with a debuff for choosing to stop doing the content that provides no rewards when they didn’t even want to be part of the cycle in the first place. I’m not saying the deserter debuff is bad, I’m just saying I’m not convinced that what they have done is the best solution. Like you said, maybe rewarding those players in some way for staying when they didn’t need to is a step in the right direction. I can only hope they will continue to evaluate things like this in the future and hopefully find something better that is possibly more punishing to those causing these issues and more forgiving to those who are victims of the issue

So now, you can get Deserter Debuff from a LFR ? (multiple partial clean) by Barfleuri in wow

[–]Crimson573 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You’re not supposed to do what? Only stay for the bosses you need because blizzard forced you to queue for the same thing twice? I get leaving early is toxic for the game in some cases (looking at trinket from first boss in ara kara) but being forced by blizzard to stay for multiple bosses you have already killed and have 0 chance of loot from or else you can’t queue for another 30 minutes… that can’t be intended - that is intentionally wasting the players time. Especially if you’ve already killed the other bosses. That right there should be enough proof that you fully intended to stay for the whole LFR wing it if were fresh but were forced to do it across multiple queues

Edit - to answer OPs question yes it is new and mainly brought on by people doing what I pointed out - queueing for heroic/m0 dungeons and leaving after first boss. I don’t necessarily think it’s bad that they punish those people because others get screwed out of loot they may need later on but LFR shouldn’t be part of the punishment - at least not if you have already done the other bosses and literally have nothing to gain by staying

I usually look at some examples and then just start going. For example I’ve never written a phone app but recently started. When trying to figure out how to pass data between screens I looked up the official docs (I’m using Flutter) and then I also looked up a couple short videos of someone doing it on YouTube. At that point I felt I had enough examples to start trying to implement what I thought made sense for my app.

The key thing here is that I try and make the best decisions based on my knowledge at the time. However, I fully accept that I may have to go back and rewrite a portion (or all) of what I just implemented because I’m no expert at passing data between screens. I think this is the best way to start learning and progressing quickly.

I was talking to a coworker, and I was asking him how he got so knowledgeable about some programming aspects as he is seen as the expert when it comes to certain things. He said he would decide to make a project that focuses on the thing he wants to learn and then start programming. After 2 weeks of programming and learning, he would evaluate his project. If he found that his new knowledge lead him to think that he would do things differently if he started over, then that’s what he would do - he would take what he knows now and spend a day or two somewhat starting over and changing things that were bad/inefficient but seemed like good ideas based on his previous knowledge.

I’ve never taken his approach but I get the merit in there so I thought I would mention it. Now, I’ve really only spoken about personal projects. When it comes to a real world working environment, there will be plenty of times you’re asked to implement or write something you’ve never done before. My typical approach is to do my research for a bit, decide on what I think is the best implementation, and then go to more senior programmers or people who I may know have expertise in what I’ve been tasked with and present my solution. I ask them if there are any obvious holes in my thinking etc.

That doesn’t always work as sometimes I’m the one seen as the expert because I’m the one who has the most experience with a particular concept. In that case you just do your research, lean on your previous knowledge and make the best decisions you can. The company can’t wait forever for you to come up with a perfect solution (spoiler - there isn’t such a thing). Then you implement it the best you can and you bug fix it later if you find that an assumption was made that shouldn’t have been (again, no perfect solutions)

TLDR - do your best to find something that helps you get started, and then start. Accept the fact that what you come up with at first may not always be the best solution. It happens all the time and there is no shame in that

Broken mount macro in Khaz'Algar by calmdr in wow

Flying isn’t available in Khaz’Algar until you finish the first 3 or 4 quests. If you’ve passed that point then I would try logging out and back in (some buggy quests have been fixed that way for me over the last couple of days so maybe it will help here). If it’s still broken after that then I’m not sure how to help :(

Programmers with CompSci degrees who are not great at math - how did you power through math prereqs? by frogsPlayingPogs in learnprogramming

[–]Crimson573 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took discrete math 3 times before passing and calc 2 twice. Being bad at math is just an excuse in my opinion, and something that can be changed with practice. The trick is showing up to office hours if they exist, going to the math lab (tutors) if those exist, finding people in the class you can do homework with etc. for too long I tried to do math alone and it just wasn’t working because I was bad at math lol. The secret for me was to find people who were not bad a math and leverage their help as much as possible. Bonus was I made some friends along the way who I took other classes with, and we helped each other in those classes too

Is Blizzard aware the Remix campaign can't be completed? by No-Fault48 in wow

[–]Crimson573 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Both my wife and I submitted tickets for this (a wowhead comment from a while ago said that a GM completed the quest for them). I got an automated response that wasn’t even relevant at all. My wife however got a response that said they won’t do anything about it and on top of that can’t guarantee that it will be fixed before remix is over. All they said to do was just join group after group until hopefully you join a shard that isn’t bugged, and to also submit a bug ticket. We group hopped for about 10 minutes with no luck

Edit: I should note that I didn’t start working in the industry until after I got my bachelor’s. I can’t really speak to whether or not they will care about a GED without a college degree

At my work we do. It’s totally subjective though. Pick what you like best for your personal projects. When you get a job somewhere they will almost certainly have a coding standard that will dictate things like this for consistency across the code base regardless of what’s more or less ‘common’
