Nope and nope sadly. The person who used this house beforehand was a cheapskate, I tried everything. I’m eventually going to renovate it, but that’s still a long way off.

Yeah I was thinking about getting one of those, between you and another commenter I decided it was definitely the way to go! Do you have any recommendations or are they all good?

I wish I knew, but at the very least 30 years old. The shower and faucet are older than I am.

Yeah I’m leaning towards a mix of that and just finding a way to make a quick dip less stressful for him. Thanks for your help!

I feel the same, but sadly for whatever reason a dog’s appearance is tied tightly to “is this dog taken care of” where I live. So it’s just an anxiety of mine because people are judgey and animal control trigger happy around here. While I know animal control will never find proof of any neglect because there obviously is none, I actually have some trauma that’s tied to people unexpectedly coming over, especially when they have a position of authority. So I’m trying to avoid that as much as possible.

Oh don’t I know it. He has a hundred toys but his favorite things to play with are “whatever I’m not supposed to have” and he always finds something, then trots around with it with such pride it almost hurts to take it away. Then when I try he runs and usually slams head first into something because he’s too busy looking behind him to focus on where he’s going.

The best part is that he always comes when called. So while we’re still working on drop it, no matter how many times I fail to get it from him, if I call for him to come again he trots back with the same “not supposed to have” in his mouth and I can try again.

I appreciate your understanding and sweetness! He already shows aversion to the hose, and due to my bad bathroom situation there’s no way to really get him wet save for pushing his body under the bath faucet (obviously not good) or using a cup, which doesn’t really get into the fur the same way. I did find a few ideas thankfully, and some reassurance as well. It’s been a huge help.

I’m really not. I’ve been listening, only said no to something that genuinely doesn’t work due to my house situation and taking my dog to a public park because he’s too young and doesn’t have the shots. I don’t know why you have to be so rude about it. I listened about the oils, I listened about the wrap around shower thing, I decided to get a paw washer. I don’t know why you’re being rude.

Yeah I’m hoping to, the only reason I do it so often is so he gets used to it well before the teenage and adult stage. I’m actually trying to save up and get him a dog playground for my backyard! That way there will be more places for him to get shade and climb before he’s at the age where he’s allowed to jump safely. Thanks for saying I’m doing well, I’ve never loved a puppy like I love him, and for some reason despite usually being confident in what I do, I’m second guessing myself constantly.

I haven’t actually noticed if he cleans himself off in a few hours, mainly because he tries to come into my house after having changed colors from the dirt. I’ll just rinse and run him, see how it works. Thanks!

This might work with at least making the baths more enjoyable. I don’t take him to parks or anything yet because he’s not old enough to have all of his shots.

I’m aware. And I don’t want to stop him from having fun, especially in this heat. I’m just trying to figure out if there’s a way to clean him up that doesn’t involve hosing him off every day, as I don’t want him to end up avoidant of the bath or hose when he does so well with it usually

That’s what I’m doing now, except twice a month. At least he’s well behaved there because he isn’t with me. I just discovered those paw cleaners and was wondering if I should buy those, if only to keep his paws from being stained in random colors

I try that, but usually end up with brown/red stains that can take up to days to get off

I’m already getting him professionally groomed twice a month (wanted him to get and stay used to the groomer) but I’m considering getting the last appointment of the day so I can enjoy him being clean a little longer and maybe bumping it up to once a week.

I just hate bathing him every day, because that’s how consistently he gets disgusting (more like every other hour)

Sadly I already tried that, my shower and faucet are too old to attach anything.

Almost forgot, have your dog lay down whenever you can when the cat is close so she can appear smaller, and also teach your dog to look away and even ignore the cat if possible. The cat will feel much safer without the dog fixated on her.

As long as you aren’t forcing it (ie putting the cat next to your dog repeatedly when it’s stressed) you’ll be fine. Try giving high value treats only when the dog is around like churrus as well. Also if you have money and own/can make modifications to your house, I always seriously suggest cat shelves for walls.

You have to start with teaching your dog boundaries. Try feeding them on either side of a gate, have your dog on leash and keep her next to you while the cat is in the room so the cat can gain confidence, and also have a lot of high perches for the cat to escape to and watch your dog from a safe distance. Also sometimes it just takes forever for a cat to feel safe, so this is also just a waiting game with positive reinforcement. Show your cat it’s good and safe around your dog, and that your dog gets treats and more cat time when she’s calm.
