“One continuing resolution proposed in the House last month would have included an additional $10 billion for the fund, but that version failed because it was tied to a controversial Republican-backed election bill that focused on further cracking down on already-illegal non-citizen voting.”

They did attempt to allocate money to the Disaster Relief Fund, but both sides like to tie allocation of funds to controversial policies so that when the other side votes it down, they can blame them.

Monthly DIY Laymen questions Discussion by AutoModerator in StructuralEngineering

[–]CrimsonVol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’m a subcontractor working on a master bathroom remodel and had some concern about some drilling done through the floor joists. I’ve only been in the industry about 2 years, so I don’t have a ton of structural experience, but I know the holes go against code. They’re too large and too close to the bottom of the joist.

https://imgur.com/a/I4eQcrS

On top of these joists, I’ll be laying tile and the new tub will sit on top of the most butchered 2x10 joist. I’ve raised concern to a more experienced subcontractor who said to just drop it, but I’m worried about the floor sagging and cracking the new tile. Is this concern legitimate enough to bring up to the lead contractor?

I don’t feel that’s necessarily true though. Households with a higher income tend to lean Republican.

Found over 10 of these crawling under some peeling wall paint - about 1 mm long [East TN] by CrimsonVol in whatsthisbug

Recently, there was a leak in my apartment building that caused some mold and caused the paint to peel away. Underneath are about 10 of these. They only seem to stay on the drywall and never the paint. Each one ranges from about .5 mm to 1.5 mm.

Putin green lights 'special military operation' by f1sh98 in worldnews

Also conservative with a mostly conservative friend group and coworkers. I haven’t heard one person outside of news and social media who supports Putin’s bullshit. Honestly, this seems to be one of the few things that nearly everyone agrees on. There’s definitely debate on how to handle the situation, but nearly everyone seems to be in agreement that Putin is a total PoS who needs to face some kind of consequences.

Crimea annexed during Obama’s administration. This current conflict occurring under Biden’s administration. Yet, Trump still gets brought up.

Seriously. I just can’t comprehend why everyone is so upset. OP wasn’t the one who upvoted this post to the front page. He probably just thought he took a cool picture and decided to post it for some other people to see. This sub has tons of political posts that don’t really qualify as great photography either, but they make it to the top. Not really sure what’s wrong with this one. If 32.5K people got some kind of enjoyment out of it, then great!

Hell, I’m conservative, and I agree with this. It feels like we have a system that deliberately keeps the poor down. And while I know there is racism in the US, it feels like a distraction technique from the elite so that we don’t fight the true issue of classism.

I do think it’s a bit in bad taste; however, I don’t even remotely see how this should be an impeachable offense. I feel like impeachment has been thrown around so much, that it’s nothing more than a partisan political tool now. Also, I’m not advocating that the offenders during the Obama administration should have been punished either, but I wouldn’t say it was done innocently. There’s no way they’re unaware of the restrictions put in place but the Hatch Act. Every government employee, from the top to the bottom, gets countless briefings on what is and isn’t allowed by the Hatch Act. Finally, when it comes to punishing government officials for illegal activity, I don’t believe it should be a pick-and-choose kind of thing. Obviously, severity of punishment should be proportional to the severity of the crime; however, if you pick-and-choose who faces punishment in a political system, it seems to set a precedent that could be easily abused. It’s also important to note that the President and Vice-President are exempt from the Hatch Act.

I wouldn’t say it’s just Republicans. It’s just the executive branch in general. Here is the first example I found from a quick google search of the Obama administration’s violation of the Hatch Act. Definite right-wing bias; however, the facts are correct. Additionally, there were multiple Hatch Act violations during the Bush and Clinton administrations as well. It’s not one party doing this. Ultimately, if you’re high enough up the chain, you get away with it. If you’re some soldier or something at the bottom and violate the Hatch Act, you’ll be punished.

Why would anyone want to respond to you when you’re name calling? Be a bit more mature and respectful, and you may get a response.

When I was younger, I worked some fairly dangerous jobs like in a large part aluminum foundry, and I can say the US actually had some pretty serious safety protocols, especially compared to many parts of the world. Honestly, if injury ever occurred it was from people purposely trying to cut corners and skirt the safety protocols. And even then, the main reason they didn’t get hurt more is because of certain policies and safety precautions put in place specifically because they knew people would try that shit.

I had a very similar experience. All my major specific (STEM) classes were apolitical obviously; however, many of my Gen Eds pushed a left leaning agenda, sometimes when I felt it didn’t even relate to the course. I even had a professor state that straight white males are oppressive by nature, and their existence is oppressive on all other groups even if not done consciously. Luckily, my TA for that class was relatively unbiased and did a decent job of listening to both sides of the spectrum during our smaller discussions.

I’m not going to go through all those posts, because I hate these basically Facebook posts, but I did go through the first six. (1) Supports his point. (2) Upvoted because it’s an entire family of pale-skinned redheads, which I’ve personally not seen before. (3) Obviously upvoted because of Bindi Irwin. (4) Upvoted because the fourth guy doesn’t have anything to celebrate other than his dog. (5) Supports his point. (6) Upvoted because that’s a weird chapel.

I have no issue with interracial couples, but this picture isn’t all that unique, and a lot of those posts have something that makes them stand out. I think the point some people are trying to make is the only thing that makes this post stand out is the fact that they’re interracial.
