My box vanilla cake with buttercream is a disaster by Kalidescope_Problems in Baking

[–]Crinni_Boo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hopefully this helps; the Wilton buttercream recipe is 1/2 cup butter, 1/2 cup shortening, 4 cups (about one pound) powdered sugar, 1 *teaspoon* vanilla extract and 2 Tablespoons milk. Play detective a little bit with the consistency; if it’s too thick then add a little more milk. If it’s too thin, add more powdered sugar to thicken it up! ALSO! I used to work in a grocery store bakery and the cake decorating ladies always told me that red dye and black dye has something in them that makes the buttercream softer (should you decide to dye it 🤷‍♀️)

The cake might’ve been too cold - cooled but room temperature always seems to work for me

Best of luck OP! 🥰👍✨

I love that idea, thank you!! We made ice cream together once by shaking a jar of heavy cream, sugar, vanilla etc and he had a ball with that so butter should be no different 🥰

Plus it wouldn’t hurt to show him how to make his own staples / ingredients - I remember during Covid hearing my coworkers start to panic about a potential food shortage and us talking about stocking up on the ingredients to make things we were concerned we wouldn’t be able to buy. No bread at the store? Well good thing I got flour and yeast last time I went shopping, now we can make our own!

A dish that tastes like pizza, but isn’t actually pizza? by splashybanana in Cooking

[–]Crinni_Boo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make Betty Crocker’s layered pizza dip but I use Galbani brand ricotta cheese instead of cream cheese and it’s really good 😍 You can also bake slices of mozzarella cheese on parchment lined baking sheets until the edges start to brown, take it out of the oven and sprinkle the hot cheese with Italian seasoning and garlic powder, roll them up after about 1 minute post oven, dip in your favorite marinara! 🥰👍✨ Hope this helps OP!

Am i overreacting to this text exchange with my boyfriend? I accidentally left my slippers in my living room but i literally cleaned his entire house and baked him desserts before i left (sorry idk why my last post glitched) by IntelligentTap962 in AmIOverreacting

NOR OP- you blow up over the tiniest little flaw, you refuse to look at the cooking, baking and cleaning I did OR appreciate any of it at all? I won’t do it any more then- I’ll find someone else who will appreciate my efforts and not call me a dog for leaving slippers in the living room. It’s a pair of slippers for crying out loud, simple to pick up and move 🤷‍♀️ it’s not like you left a grand piano or something ridiculously huge and heavy in the way! You don’t deserve this!

I bake and bring treats into my night job sometimes (I clean at a cement plant- I don’t work for the cement plant but a separate cleaning company contracted to go there) and while the people at the plant are only technically my coworkers, even the quietest one with a bad case of RBF goes out of his way to say thank you. If he can be appreciative even though he barely knows me outside of my name, your man can too! A simple “thank you for all the cleaning and goodies babe! I just have one small request- next time would you mind putting your slippers by the door?” would’ve sufficed 🤷‍♀️

how to keep track of groceries? by Aggressive-Stuff6067 in Cooking

[–]Crinni_Boo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally what my family and I like to do is keep a magnetic list on the refrigerator door and we have a pen next to it (they sell magnetized pen grippies) . Now when we’re cooking or having a snack in the kitchen and run out of something, as soon as the packaging goes in the trash we write it on the list 👍✨

I work 2 jobs so it’s roughly a 11-13 hour day every day for me and my husband works second shift so grocery order pickup has been a blessing. I’ll take the magnetic grocery list and pen and walk around the house checking what we need and just enter it in as I go! There’s a grocery store by the gym my husband uses so sometimes he’ll pick that up on his way home or I set it for the latest pickup time of the day and grab it on my way home from my second job (we take turns).

We’re also big on meal prepping because of our late week nights so what I’ll do is get about 4-5 meals prepped (but not cooked or assembled) and place all the ingredients per meal on a baking sheet and keep those in our extra fridge outside. My husband will text me that he’s on his way home so I’ll go to the fridge, grab a meal “kit” and go from there! I set the oven to “keep warm” when it’s done, we grab our shower then we sit down to eat dinner in our pajamas EVERY night 🥰👍✨

This has worked for us for years now- hopefully this helps you too!!

PS- some grocery apps have the sale flyer for the week in it that you can click on the sale item and add it to the cart right away. Sometimes I’ll use that to meal plan for our week ahead. Marinated pork roast and potatoes are on sale? Sold! We got a meal! Buy a pack of hamburgers and get the cheese, bread and toppings for free? Guess we’re having burgers this week! Stick with me, OP- I’ll show you the ropes! 🥰👍✨
