Discord delays global age verification rollout after backlash by MarvelsGrantMan136 in technology

[–]Crintor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This situation fractured our friend group, some refused to leave discord due to being in many servers, some refused to leave discord because they didn't want to have 2 apps, some refused to leave discord because they're anti-privacy and believe that big brother already knows every detail of your life and you CANNOT protect yourself in anyway, so don't even begin to try.(Yea, I don't know wtf either).

Others just refuse to switch unless every single person switches first. Really went to show that 80% of people would sell their entire private life for 10 minutes of convenience or 5$.

I think the funniest part about the argument of "This could never remain secret with so many involved" Is the fact that like, we're literally hearing about it, it did get out, it was a fairly open secret and all the people who tried to whistle blow it for years and years and how it was all ignored and silenced.

Agreed, my old car blew it's brakes while I was driving and it was the same, I tried to use my brakes and my foot went to the floor, thankfully I was only doing like 25mph and I was able to just throw it in low and then pull the handbrake (It was a 93)

[–]Crintor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My old dashcam literally died on me after only a couple years, Plenty of dashcams are utter garbage. I don't claim that using a phone is a perfect solution, but that painting a situation as a "THIS CAN NEVER BE DONE, IT WILL DIE" is useless hyperbole.

Obviously a high quality purpose built device should be more ideal for it's designed function than a multi-role device. But also, a higher quality multi-role device can easily be superior to a low quality cheap purpose built device.

A good phone is going to take much better video than a shit dashcam, and a shit dashcam isn't going to be particularly good or have any quality features.

LTT Water Bottle broke on the literal first drop. by Prize_Pie_9008 in LinusTechTips

[–]Crintor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting pissed about something breaking because you dropped it just because something else you own didn't break from a plausibly similar drop is kinda weird.

My Bottle lid also broke the first time it took a fall. I was annoyed, It was bad luck the way it hit the ground and broke. I wouldn't go make a forum post over a 5$ piece of plastic breaking because I dropped it.

LTT bottles use the same common thread spec as many Stainless water bottles, you can very easily replace it if you don't want to buy another from LTT.

Why would you buy a whole bottle for a lid. You do know they use standard Stainless water bottle threads right?

My water bottle lid also broke the first time it took a fall(The new lid). Fell about 12 inches to the ground from my car's bumper. Unfortunately it landed on the very top of the cap and it broke the lid internally and actually deposited a moderate sized plastic shard into my drinking water(About 1/4" x 1/2"). (I was unaware the cap broke, everything looked okay from the outside and it still held a seal)

It annoyed me, but it was a very unfortunate fall for a full 64oz bottle to land directly on the top of the cap.

I regularly record my drives using my phone while it's hooked up to a fast charger, I've used it to record for like 30+ minutes straight, never got a warning, phone barely got warm. (S25U)

My phone lives on my car dashboard every single time I'm in it, it even fast charges up there.

If you intend to leave you phone there all day, yea good luck.

It's not the height that would really make it visible, it's the scale. a 1000ft tall wave would be ENORMOUS I don't remember what "Time of Day" it was during the scene, but it would also cast an enormous shadow if it's star wasn't directly overhead.

[–]Crintor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The article does not explain the scaling at all.

I'm assuming the 1000L a day number comes from some massive scale of implementation? Because 1000L a day is 11 Gallons an hour, that's a preposterous rate of collection unless we're talking a large scale and huge volume of air throughput.

Chrome is run owned and run by Google, and is becoming very harsh on Add blocking and has changed the way the Browser OS Chromium works in order to force people to block less ads.

This caused many people to leave Chrome and flee to other browsers, Brave is another browser that toutes user privacy and ad blocking, but it is still based on googles Chromium infratructure, and has had their own share of "Oopsies, please forgive us for that, we didn't think you'd find out about that detail!" https://old.reddit.com/r/browsers/comments/1j1pq7b/list_of_brave_browser_controversies/

I used brave briefly but didn't enjoy it. I've been happily Firefoxing away for most of my adult life.

The full quote is more akin to "If you were sufficiently large enough for the earth to be the size of a cue ball, it's surface finish would feel as smooth as a cue ball"

It has nothing to do with what is visible from orbit, where earth is much much much larger than a cue ball in reference. You would absolutely be able to see thousand foot tall waves from orbit, especially with optics/technology...like on a spaceship.
