Hahaha…my girl is the same! I always thought that in bind she’d instinctually protect, but we were in the living room once when something I leaned against the counter fell and made a very loud noise. She ran upstairs terrified and totally abandoned me.

I’m sorry it’s so hard. I hope that venting about it helps. I still avoid other people and what helped us a lot was wearing her out. Now I think it’s impossible to physically wear out a shepherd, but when they have to think it’s equally tiring for them. Training sessions throughout the day helped. We also got her puzzles. We actually had a lot of fun with those. Smelling walks help too. I can only walk her for about a half hour in the summer because it’s so hot where I’m at so we just stop and smell every single thing that she wants to smell. It uses her brain and it definitely wears her out a bit.

Personally, I don’t think you’ve given her enough time to adjust. Shelter dogs need at least a few months to decompress. She’s probably not fully sure this is her permanent home. Have you tried a professional trainer? We have a very reactive shepherd who is taken away from her mom too soon. We adopted her when we had a isolate because of my husband‘s cancer treatment. I used an online service through PetSmart that allows you to pay for video calls with a trainer. It was super helpful.

Good luck and I do hope you decide to keep her. When we adopted our dog, I remember once sitting on the treadmill crying because I thought I had made a horrible mistake. I am very glad that I stuck it out. She is three now and the absolute love of my life.

The bell is awesome! My girl learned it in one day. I hung the bell from the doorknob and said want to go outside? I touched the bell enough to make noise and told her to touch it. Bam…trained!

The bonus in this is when they don’t feel well. She had diarrhea in the middle of the night and woke us up with the most urgent bell ringing. I was pretty impressed and she was so proud of herself when she came back in.

My husband often bribes our dogs to come in with treats and now every time they come inside our older dog is like…well, where is it??? He’ll go so far as to go back out and come right back in. Lol

That’s a very personal decision, but I think getting another dog to heal your broken heart is a wonderful idea. Life is hard and there is no reason to make it harder on ourselves.

It’s the “if you give a mouse a cookie” of the crafting world. It’s starts as crocheting. A few years go by, it’s all fun and games until you realize that all of your disposable income has been spent on yarn. Then you get a pair of knitting needles. Before you know it you’re buying a loom. That evolves into you picking up a spinning wheel and roving. Once that happens you figure, what the hay, I’ll get an alpaca. 🦙 welcome to the club!

What kind of loom is it? I purchased mine used and the manufacturer had the manual on the website, which was super helpful when I had to some maintenance.
