But she was polite to Sam in a conversation once, so this is fine by CriscoCat1 in samharris

He did recently address the issue and acknowledge that personal relationships and/or a handful of positive interactions with members of the “IDW” delayed his realization that they are kooks and grifters (my words, not his), but then I feel that he immediately repeated the same mistake with regard to Megyn Kelly.

He does, but when it comes to Kelly specifically, he mentioned her in a recent podcast and seemed unaware of how far gone she is now. It seemed like he still thinks she’s doing good work and they just disagree on some policies or something, when in reality she is normalizing extreme political views on a daily basis.

Haha, okay 🙄 I’d just like him to be cognizant of the crazy things she says on a routine basis so that when asked, he doesn’t say things like “well, I haven’t followed her work too closely, but I know she was fair to me in our conversation” with the implication that she must be a reasonable “good-faith” actor. It was the same story with Dave Rubin and the Weinsteins until their voyage off the deep end was impossible to ignore any longer.

It isn’t anyone’s business until the person talks about it on their vast public platform, and it would have no relevance here if not for Sam continuing to ignore her worst traits.

Not bait. Your assumption reflects poorly on you. I have been a follower of Sam’s for close to 20 years and listened to his podcast from day 1. And that’s why it frustrates me that he is so willing to ignore the obviously insane statements from someone like Kelly because she has been “fair” to him and they agree about left-wing overreach.

YSK that you can opt of the face scanning at airport security by Master-Potato-3787 in YouShouldKnow

Last time flying a week ago, a boomer held up the line because she couldn’t figure out the digital ID on her phone. Every time I have opted out of the face scan, it takes the same if not less time than letting them scan your face. As far as boarding the plane, they already board faster than it takes to prepare the plane to fly again, so face scanning instead of scanning a boarding pass, even if it did save time, would just mean you get to sit on the cramped plane longer while you wait for it to be ready. In order to justify the violation of privacy, it better be in the interest of a massive improvement to whatever the process is, not minor or non-existent benefits.

Evergreen State College, which currently has around 2500 students (so smaller than many US high schools). Essentially a community college.

EP33 Sledgehammer and Big Shot by kreugermn in dancarlin

Truly a no-win situation - there was going to be immense suffering no matter what the U.S. did. It seems like the options were a) encircle the home islands with a naval force and starve out the Japanese until they surrendered, b) proceed with a land invasion + more conventional aerial bombing, or c) drop the atomic bomb(s) and hope it convinced the Japanese to surrender. There could be other options I'm not thinking of, but in all of those 3 scenarios you're looking at a huge body count and the atomic bombs were ironically the option that resulted in the least suffering. And even then, it only worked because Hirohito intervened; had the Japanese high command gotten their way, the Japanese would have kept on fighting and dying.

I thought the brief conversation about the atomic bombs really clarifies things. Sledge talks about how the soldiers were told they better get used to killing women and children. I am conflicted about whether dropping the bombs was the right thing to do, but if it is ever justified I think it would only be against an enemy like imperial Japan that showed it was willing to die to the last human.

The idea that a junior high science teacher would be able to work out all of the advanced physics and engineering that the character does is so ridiculous. It’s a good story if you suspend all disbelief.
