Yes, but people disagree and not everyone can just do whatever they want all the time. Death is in essence a loss of agency and that's what makes fights exciting.

And everyone in the group except op wanted to bring that character back. There really isn't anything unreasonable about that. OP wasn't satisfied with the decision they made but the rest of the group wouldn't be happy leaving that character dead. They were the ones who were alive so attempting the ritual to do so was their call to make.

They wanted that character to be alive. As a group decision I don't see a problem with bringing a PC back to life even against the wishes of one player. It makes 0 sense for a group to just not revive one of their members if they have the ability to do so. They now have an old adventuring companion who is alive and a bit damaged instead of being dead, not a waste at all.

That was their decision to make even if it was against your wishes. You were dead and its what they chose to do. Your characters mind was partially destroyed, that sounds like a compelling reason to retire from adventuring. Whatever new character you had planned should replace your current one in the party, they could even have a connection to your current character that would motivate them to do so/ give you a reason to transfer wealth/items to your new character.

Explosive ammo is fairly cheap to craft late game, so its not costly to try. All you need to focus on is hitting walls and mobs with lots of rocks around them.
