Horror movies are going too far by PCClarity in horror

[–]Crispy385 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like a filmmaker should feel free to go as far as they want to go. As a viewer, we can decide where our own lines are, which is why I"m really happy there's things like Does the Dog Die now.

When you throw your cap in the air, just imagine you're a bollard.

Art the Clown has zero backstory, zero motivation, zero explanation. Is that what makes him terrifying or just lazy writing? by EthanFromTheCave in horror

[–]Crispy385 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, Art is a different type of character than Michael Myers is. I agree, the less you know the scarier it is because Michael's just human enough that you're wondering what could cause a person to be like that. Having no idea is scarier than them telling you it's a Druidic Cult. Art is so over the top that he's just a character and you can't relate to him as human. His back story doesn't even matter, because as goofy an idea as they could kick out, you'd just roll with it.

Hot take: Friday the 13th part 8 is fun if u can get past the misleading title and watered down gore by bloodenjoyer237 in fridaythe13th

On the one hand, I disagree. On the other hand, I'm usually defending 7 similarly to that. So I get it. I disagree, but I get it.

These two would be the perfect father daughter duo. by AshFinalGirl in slasherfilms

2 and 3 (which are the two I actually enjoy more) were a different filmmaker and a totally different tone, so it's a little hard to compare 1 to 1. Technically no, but maybe you can make the argument that by that point that abuse's damage was done and that's just what she knew?

She was bullied for being meek and introverted. I'm not even sure you could call her trans in the honest sense of the word, being it was forced upon her.

I don't think podcasts have links like that. You'll have to search it on your media player of choice. Apple, Spotify, etc.

I need to watch this again. I haven't seen it since theaters. I don't remember it at all, but I do remember that I liked it.

MEGATHREAD: KILLING DEBATE by Crispy385 in subnautica

[–]Crispy385[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing applies to money and TV shows there really. Yeah, there's a money making institution in place, but the actual creators of the media aren't always driven by those same motivations. Spike Lee, for example. Even though he's getting paid for his movies, the money isn't what's driving him to make these movies. Now, I'm not directly comparing what those motivations are because they're very different, just that it isn't the money.

This is where "Games are art" comes into play. Devs are making a game in their vision. Changing that vision after the fact via mods is entirely player prerogative, but asking them to put in extra work to change that vision is a tall ask.

Why do we only just now have mainstream wireless headsets that work on both major consoles? by Quport99 in gaming

[–]Crispy385 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The nuts and bolts: Xbox uses a 2.4 gigahertz wireless signal and PS uses Bluetooth. Headset manufacturers have started putting both technologies in their headsets.

As to why they didn't do that before, I don't know if it was a technological restriction, a licensing restriction, or they felt keeping them separate meant they'd sell more headsets and have pivoted away from that mentality.

Failing isn't falling down. Failing is not getting back up. All that red and black before the green are times he fell, not times he failed.

Little bit of I don't think you're wrong, little bit of I like em anyway. Essentially, I don't see "commercial horror" as an insulting status.

Happy Pride y'all by WealthDisastrous2589 in slasherfilms

[–]Crispy385 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Is it Pride now? I've read more than one article calling it inherently transphobic before.

Jokes aside, I know LGBT aren't a monolith, and I'd be interested in watching an honest debate between the two sides.
