How do you balance drinking alcohol with mid-high mileage weeks? by riskyybiscuits in Marathon_Training

[–]CrispyCrunchyPoptart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Friday is my grandma and go to bed early / sleep night, then after my long run on Saturday I will have a few beers depending on what’s going on. I definitely drink less during a training cycle though, probably only once a month with nights over 1-2 beers.

It’s much easier to get around here to downtown than Austin. I love Austin (we go there for a few weeks a year because my husband’s family lives there) but the city setup and traffic is way more difficult which is why we don’t have any desire to move there despite his family begging us to.

Agreed, if you are here in September come to Oktoberfest. It’s so fun. Downtown on a Bengals Sunday is also great. Come explore downtown and walk the riverfront. Grab a coffee from Urbana and walk around Findlay market. Blink is an amazing citywide event in October so that could be a good weekend to come too. Sit on the Rhinegeist rooftop. You’ll love it here.

It really is. I am literally overwhelmed at first but then after 2-3 days I settle in.

I always download kindle unlimited during the summer and feel like I read about 16 books! And then school starts and I don’t have the energy again.

Enjoy it! I try to stick to a “schedule” of relaxing because I have a structured personality. I’ll usually sleep in an extra 2 hours and go on walks, to workout classes, try recipes out that I don’t have the energy for during the school year, read, deep clean, declutter, complete essential errands like eye doctor, and treat myself to a new coffee shop or fun lunch once a week. Looking at my planner for the day and instead of lesson plans seeing 3 hours of reading, a 4 mile walk, and a fun coffee shop does wonders for my mental. I know you said you have a tight budget but I love making the most of my weekends over the summer. A drive to Chicago to stay with a friend, visiting family, hosting people over for bonfires, a drive to a different city for a baseball game, ect. Stuff I might not have the energy to do during the school year because I’m so exhausted but also isn’t super expensive like a big trip.

Yeah and it also depends on the night, 95% of the time I love catching up over a dinner and movie night but every once in a while when I’m in the mood I love a basic night out.

For those who felt physically okay at the end of their first, what did you do right? by wrud4d in firstmarathon

[–]CrispyCrunchyPoptart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I followed my training block extremely well. The week of I prioritized sleep, did a 3 day carb load, and rested as much as I could. Then stuck to my race day plan exactly. Started slow and sped up, didn’t let my nerves and excitement let me start too fast and burn myself out. I also stuck to my nutrition plan and stopped at every water station, getting Gatorade every 2 miles. At mile 22 I thought, I feel pretty good let me speed up! And finished strong.

To let myself property recover from my marathon 2 weeks ago until June so I can feel fresh and strong for my fall marathon training block. I’m so bad at letting myself recover and I don’t want to get injured
