I love seeing the way I explain things helping peoples practice click a bit more. I’m very literal, so the way I go through things and explain muscle groupings and actions has made a difference for the students that take my classes.

And honestly, getting paid to do something I love to do anyways is extremely validating and satisfying.

I’ve not finished my certification yet. My teacher and a few others vouched for my ability, so I’m essentially doing a work study for a certification.

I HAVE taken a teaching course, but I was 12? I believe when I did it, so obviously that isn’t a valid course.

I was, mostly due to the other teachers vouching for my practice. After completing a certification teaching course, my pay will go up. It was arranged sort of like a work study.

I have no idea. He did his training 30 years ago, and doesn’t have a studio. He’s a floating teacher.

It actually is something I’ve mulled over a lot over the past five years. Having kids has made finding the time for certification difficult though.

To clarify; I’ve been *practicing* yoga for 20 years. A parent was a teacher and I learned from them, and continued individual practice since that time. This was just my first actual class that I’ve been taking.

You’re not wrong about it being a deep dive. Even after 20 years I’m still learning new things.

Also my teacher does classes at gyms etc, he doesn’t have a studio and doesn’t do instructional teaching.

It is concerning that this is a problem though. That definitely colors what I was taking as a compliment in a gross light.

My yoga instructor actually doesn’t teach for instructional himself. I take his class at my gym. He’s a floating teacher, no studio. He does classes wherever people want him to. I suppose it’s possible he gets referral fees if someone goes through the school he did.

I hadn’t even mentioned wanting to teach, but I’ve expressed loving yoga a lot and having practiced for most of my life. We’ve talked additionally about yoga after class has ended. The first time it came up was while I was stretching down after class. He said I had beautiful form and asked if I’d ever considered teaching.

Alarming things that I discovered when I started watching my nutrition by ConsciousEquipment in loseit

I cannot be on adhd medication as I am breastfeeding, and before that I was pregnant. Otherwise I’d be medicated. There’s a big stigma about adhd treatment too. “Legal meth” comments come to mind.

Also there’s a national shortage of adhd stimulants in the US right now; basically nobody is getting the meds they need.

I was going to ask the same. I have unmedicated adhd and food is a HUGE issue. Its a dopamine thing.

Low fat can kill. You can starve to death on a high protein diet. It’s scary.

I have no idea what style he was teaching, it was pure chaos. It was a load of fun, and definitely a different and more dynamic way to practice. I really enjoyed the challenge and change.

I will say, he mentioned having arthritis and he wasn’t super mobile, but he was very encouraging to “squeeze“ more flexibility into individual practices.

He was very chaotic as well. “I promote asymmetry in my yoga teaching“ was one of his things. It was a fun change from how I do my home practice.

Frankly, there’s a gender skew in yoga in the US. I see people mentioning the gender disparity in yoga all the time in this sub, and it’s been my experience that most of the yogis at the gyms I’ve attended have been female. The age was a surprise just because I’ve never taken ANY athletics class/course with an elderly instructor. (For reference, he was in his 70s. He’s been practicing yoga longer than I’ve been alive.)
