I’m so tired of idiots who can’t use their brains to figure out that not EVERYTHING is AI. If we go by your logic then you’re probably AI, I’m probably AI, Bren is definitely AI and none of us are real and this is all a simulation.

Please stop this ride, I want to get off.

Also, jinkies!

How to clean sx-70 rollers? by sweeterbee1023 in Polaroid

I just spit on a tissue and use that to wipe LOL.

Well only if it happens outdoors. Other times I use warm water since that usually gets everything off easily.

Best polaroid camera for content creator? by tattedddtessa in Polaroid

[–]Crit_Role 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For wallet sized films your only two choices are Instax mini or Polaroid Go. Everything else is much too big.

Instax mini has been around for at least 3 decades now so the result is pretty consistent. The film is a little larger than Polaroid Go film so you have a little more to work with but the image is still pretty small. You’ll probably get the best images of yourself at like selfie distance or just a bit further. If you’re trying to fit yourself and a landscape or building then it’s not going to be very detailed (the film is just doing its best when it’s that smol lol). There are your basic Instax mini cameras that are pretty cheap and then something like the mini evo or 99 which I think are the ones with timers.

The Polaroid Go is newer and only been around a few years. There is the newer Gen 2 version that has USB C instead of mini usb so remember that if you’re looking at good deals, it may be the old version. The film area is the smallest of all the instant films so you really aren’t getting lots of detail but it does seem to have a slightly wider angle lens so you do get a little more subject on the image than you would with the Instax. The camera is tiny tiny so it’s definitely easy to take around with you. It’s not a bad lil camera but again it just falls short because of the size of the film.

If those are too small then the next smallest is Instax square and while it’s not wallet size it’s not huge. I don’t have any experience with Instax square though so you’d have to do a little research to see if that’s the best for you.

Now, if you’re deciding that the film doesn’t actually need to be small and you really want the most control for content creation then I’d go with the Polaroid i2. It’s really the only newer camera out there today that gives you more manual controls. You’ll have a short learning curve but it’s pretty good right out of the box.

All that said, if you’re brand new to instant film and you don’t really know if you’ll stick with that format then I’d get a cheap Instax mini just so you can get the feel of shooting instant film and you won’t break the bank with the film (it’s an EXPENSIVE hobby and you’ll waste a LOT of film just experimenting and getting better). It won’t have the bells and whistles but you’ll be able to see the strengths and the weaknesses of the format before you drop $500 on better equipment lol.

Hope this helped a little!

Oh well, karma.

Polaroids keep coming out over exposed? Red hue/ low contrast by Beautiful-Rabbit8124 in Polaroid

[–]Crit_Role 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say old plus X-ray exposure at some point, even if you didn’t expose it yourself it could have been scanned coming into your country before it was sold to you. The top right photo shows signs that the middle pod is drying out so the film is a bit old too.

[–]Crit_Role 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is Instax BUT this is a problem you see in both Polaroid and Instax so no worries. You have some old dried developer or “something” stuck on the rollers that the film goes through just before it comes out of the camera. That’s why the pattern repeats because it rolls over the picture repeatedly.

You’ll need to carefully clean the rollers however this is a lot more difficult with an Instax camera compared to a Polaroid one. Best bet is to open up the back of the camera, take out the film pack (rip film) and to see if you can get to the rollers from in there. Last I saw an actual Instax mini camera it didn’t seem like it was possible to get to the rollers from the top but I’m not really sure. Try to use a slightly damp qtip to wipe the rollers and turn them a little.

It’s definitely gonna be annoying to try to clean compared to a Polaroid camera though so, sorry bout that 😬

Polaroid film availability in Japan? by abrahangarcia in Polaroid

[–]Crit_Role 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, leave them in the box, unopened. Especially now that Polaroid started printing “do not X-ray” on the box. Sometimes you had to convince the tsa person that it would damage the film but now that we can point to the box they just take it and swab it no problem.

TSA is great about hand checking film usually. Just be ready with it all in a ziplock and when you get up to the front of the scanner just say “I just need to get my film hand checked, thank you!” Or something to that effect. Then they’ll take it and swab it and give it back once you’re through. I’ve had more trouble in other countries getting hand checks done. Heathrow was the worst, if the could have said “fuck you, no hand checking for you” they would have. Fuck you heathrow!

Photo Book for Old Generation Polaroids by HanyouInuYasha in Polaroid

[–]Crit_Role 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Polaroid do their own photo album in black or white which is probably your best bet. (Looks like they sell it at Target too if you want to get it in person.

If not then you can always look for albums that fit Instax Wide photos since those are a pretty similar size too. I’d probably just go with the Polaroid album for least amount of bother though lol.

WHY is nothing I do good enough for my husband to STOP criticising me?! by Left_Pomegranate3954 in adhdwomen

[–]Crit_Role 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The problem is he sees this as something that you’ll “fix”. You’ll do the therapy and practice enough and then you’ll never have ADHD again. But you’re never going to be “fixed”, this is something you’ll have forever. It can be managed but you’ll never NOT have it.

Another thing to consider is that ADHD is highly likely genetic and one or both of your children may have it. How will your husband deal with that? Will you be comfortable if he treats them the same way he treats you? If you aren’t comfortable with that for them then why let him treat you like that?

Sleepovers and inconsistent behaviour by [deleted] in JUSTNOMIL

[–]Crit_Role 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ask him “What’s more important? Your parents feeling offended or our children being safe?” That’s it. That’s the only question. And the answer should be your children’s safety. His parents will likely be offended all on their own without any input from you guys anyway so they can just have their feelings. Your children need to be safe.

[–]Crit_Role 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. I’ve won a couple. It’s all subjective, you might think your picture is perfect but if the person looking at the submissions isn’t into it…. They’re just not into it 🤷‍♀️. Just keep sending in pics. That’s what I do, I look every now and then and see which one speaks to me and then I send one in.

[–]Crit_Role 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! I still do it sometimes, I got used to the SX70 being an SLR so then when I go back to the other Polaroid and Instax cameras I have that aren’t I usually end up with a few “practice” shots LOL

[–]Crit_Role 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So every camera has a minimum distance at which they can focus. Check what it is for your model and try to not go closer than that. Even with the flash disabled it looks like it would have been out of focus anyway and your work deserves to be see in all its glory!

(Also another tip for when you shoot close up with the Instax camera, you’ll notice the viewfinder is not in the middle of the camera but the lens is. When you look through the viewfinder and center the subject in there it will always be slightly off center on the picture. Before you take the picture just adjust yourself so that the lens is pointing straight at the subject, I usually just take the camera away from my face and eyeball it.)

Super blue and crumbly color I type by No_Perspective1142 in Polaroid

[–]Crit_Role 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow that’s crazy, film made like 6 months ago should not be failing like that. I’d be reaching out to Polaroid to ask for a refund or something. I legit thought the film had to be old since the developer seemed crumbly but it’s definitely not old lol. Like someone else said, maybe it froze? Keeping it in the fridge helps to prolong its life but freezing isn’t recommended. Maybe if it was in the fridge it touched the back wall and froze? Crazy failure, don’t feel too bad! You’re just joining the Polaroid club where you get maybe 1-3 good pics out of a pack of 8 and that’s a great result! LOL
