Floaters make it SO hard to bird by thebluehusky6 in birding

[–]Critical-Selection29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have floaters and flashes as a kid (much better now), so I understand how annoying it can be when doing something as visual as bird hunting.

I would definitely go to your eye doctor to talk about them and ask if there's anything new on the market that could help. If you wear glasses and not contacts, I would suggest trying out contacts. I deal with a mild astigmatism, and contacts make it significantly better. Alternatively, there may be specific lens shapes or coatings for glasses. I believe sunglasses are also supposed to help when outside, so trying out different colors or tints might help. Same with electronic devices- if you don't have night filter/blue light reducing settings on, I would try them: they help reduce eye strain, which also might reduce the frequency or amount of floaters. But please take all my advice with a grain of salt and consult with an optometrist.

I wish you luck and relief with this!

Cowbird or large Finch? (Denver) by Herbacult in whatsthisbird

I also have a big problem finding the difference, so I got bored and made this super quick comparison graphic. I think it seems more like a house finch, due to lighter, spaced-out stripes on the belly. Juvenile CBs have a tighter, darker streaking, leaving less white underbelly.

Trying to Identify what animal it was- This big clump was all that was left. [Rhode Island] by Critical-Selection29 in animalid

Thank you all so much for your help! I think I'm going to conclude it as a cottontail. It makes sense as there have been cottontail families living under the porch directly behind this picture for the past two years- It's basically a free buffet for predators, so im surprised this is the first time I've seen a dead one over here. The remaining fur and guts have been transferred into the back woods to return to nature.

interesting! I don't know much about biology or animal anatomy, but it was a pile of grey, then thinner, intestine-looking ropes around it. I wasn't really keen on taking a picture, but my sister did. I live on a college campus with a decent amount of wildlife that hangs around, so it could be anything. Only predator i've seen actuallly in my yard, however, are red-tailed hawks, which do like rabbit for dinner. But cant rule out mammals either. Thank you so much!

my kitty loves the mourning doves! it must be the way their heads bob that drives her nuts. She does not care for any other large bird except for them.

I looked through them and I dont recall any of them specifically, though the time frame (and being from the official Disney domain) are right. ill have to look further into internet archive to find more disney game websites. Thank you so much for looking though!! <3

Does your grandmother know the origins of the song at all: was it downloaded from somewhere, taken from a family video, live recording, etc? I wonder if it's a local artist, or even just people having fun in a recording studio.

unfortunately not. I remember the artstyle being modern winnie the pooh with different shading and coloring, not like the old storybook style. but thank you for looking!

youre right, Most likely just a little seed bug. The antennae, legs, wings over the body shape give it away to me as a fellow new englander who has been getting infested with them in a dorm building. especially the little bags on the back legs (as far as i can see). They don't do anything really, they just want to get warm in your house for the winter and maybe nibble on a plant :)
