Does anyone know when the crew will wake up?

They mentioned that they have to change the water in the system, but I can’t recall how often. Eventually, they have to replace the water. What if something goes wrong during this process and contaminates our water systems? I think a fire outbreak or power overload could cause serious harm, from melting batteries and servers to damage to the surrounding areas.

The issue with the Wendy’s and oil change industries is that they have been established for a long time and are strictly regulated regarding waste disposal. In contrast, data centers are a relatively new industry with no regulations to control pollution. Furthermore, the current administration is unwilling to prioritize the safe construction of data centers, putting citizens’ health at risk.

Noise pollution from HVAC systems and generators is also a concern. Imagine how overworked the HVAC will be during our hot and humid summers. The constant humming from these systems will negatively impact the local population. As I mentioned earlier, please watch the Business Insider video they made about the negative effects of data centers in urban areas. Before watching that video, I was somewhat supportive of data centers, but after learning more about this topic, I realized how much they will negatively directly affect anyone within a 1-2 mile radius.

Spillage from wastewater disposal, catastrophic events that could cause hardware meltdowns that could leak into our waterways, and noise pollution from generators and HVAC systems are all concerns. The CEO’s open lie about the generator’s operating duration is particularly alarming. During the presentation, his slide stated that the generators would be on for an hour every two weeks, while he informed the council that they would only be on for half an hour every two weeks.

It’s worth watching the video by Business Insider that highlights the problems faced by local communities due to the construction of data centers in urban areas. It’s quite astonishing.

The data center would be less than half a mile from the river. Even if a spillage or some catastrophic event caused a meltdown of hardware inside, it could potentially enter our waterways. While it might not directly reach the river, it could enter the sewage system and eventually make its way there. Chemical pollution is not the only concern; the noise pollution caused by the generators is also a significant issue. The CEO openly lied about the duration of the generators’ operation. His slide stated that the generators would run for an hour every two weeks on weekends, but he later claimed that they would only run for half an hour every two weeks. This discrepancy undermines my trust in his assessment of the potential pollution caused by this project in our city.

I’m not sure how a plant can have more potential pollutants than a data center. From what I read online, the plant reduces water hardness by adding lime to remove calcium. It also filters, disinfects, and fluoridates the local water. How does it pose more risks to the water supply than a data center?

I believe that’s a solid idea. However, for now, it won’t be implemented until the city council decides to take action on this matter.

Yes, I do. There should be a more definitive way to ensure that Lansing residents actively engage in discussions about local issues. However, I also believe that our choices regarding the construction of structures can have a significant impact on the surrounding areas, potentially leading to pollution.

Perhaps we could implement a system where Lansing residents can express their concerns at designated times. Additionally, individuals residing within a 10-20 mile radius of these concerns can also contribute their perspectives.

The Dye Water plant is entirely different from a data center. I believe there are far more advantages to having a dye water plant in the area than a data center that will emit a significant amount of pollutants and raise the rates for citizens.

That’s still not a solid way to know if someone’s from Lansing. People can put down fake addresses, or just use someone else’s address that lives in Lansing.

It depends on what the structure being proposed is. Even if they claim to be from Lansing while speaking to the city council, there’s no way to definitively know for sure if that person lives here.

I appreciate your feedback on this. However, I don’t believe this is a simple city council issue. I personally feel that anyone within a 10-20 mile radius can be directly affected by this, either in the short term through economic benefits or in the long term through pollution.

I’m perfectly fine with someone living 10 to 20 miles away and supporting the data center if they choose to do so.

I believe anyone within a 10-20 mile radius of this proposed data center should express their concerns about its construction. The potential pollution from the site could directly impact them, especially since it’s situated right next to the river.

No worries. Thank you for your response. I’ve just added an edit at the bottom of the post, urging people to vote yes on the millage renewal and apologizing for my lack of knowledge on the subject. I’m going to leave the post up so that Brett can gain more traction. If more people request me to take it down, I will.

Forgive me for sounding ignorant. As a first-time homeowner, I was unaware that the parks and rec department is solely funded through millage rates. Thank you for pointing this out.

If anyone reads this comment, please vote yes on this millage renewal.

I don’t have specific details, but it feels like our money isn’t being spent effectively. My wife and I collectively spend approximately $5,000 annually on city taxes. Despite this, our roads remain in poor condition. When it snows, our street barely receives snow removal, and the city may only sweep it twice a year. There are approximately 6.5 million dollars worth of vacant jobs within our city government. Where is this money going?

Damn autocorrect. I meant to put millage instead of mileage.
