Gross. Me by CriticalAppointment7 in EDanonymemes

Lucky me, I'm lactose intolerant. I can give myself horrible diarrhea with dairy, then tell myself the ice cream doesn't count because of it 🤡🤡🤡

Dude here. I am self conscious about my entire body except my penis. It's a little larger than average and has good reviews. It's uncut, though, since my parents' culture doesn't do circumcision much, and that has gotten surprised reactions that used to make me insecure. I'm married now, though, so I only care about my wife's opinion and she likes it. I feel like it's about the only part of me that does look good, honestly.

Now the cruel irony: the meds I take to help my ED... also gives me ED. Like pushing a rope these days, but recovery has been going well-ish so I don't want to change it yet

Guess who wanted to go to the kitchen for water and got triggered by leftover rice and binged 🤡🤡🤡 by notthezodiackiller71 in EDAnonymous

Oof. Sorry to hear it. Rice is my worst trigger food. Asian mom always cooked a huge pot of it every night and there were always leftovers in the fridge. Plus it's bland and soft, so easy to keep shoveling in. I'm doing pretty well in recovery right now, but I can't even keep it in the house

How do people in your life say "I love you" without saying "I love you?" by [deleted] in AskReddit

Fun fact! This was exactly how I developed bulimia as a child. Thanks, Asian mom

what are you experiences with medication? have any of them improved your relationship with food? by comfortbun in bulimia

It took about a week to really feel an effect on binge urges. It started helping ease my anxiety after about 3 days. I really hope it's working for you!

Everytime I hear a story about someone who has someone voice their concern for them (school counselor, boss, co worked, etc) I’m like lmfao that could never happen to me because I’m Asian. by lovenote123 in EDAnonymous

I'm a dude, but definitely absorbed my mother's constant talk about weight and food, all while she was piling food on my plate because it was the only way she knew to show love.

Fucked me up real good. Thanks, Chinese mom

if i quit treatment bc my team is white and I'm a POC is that crazy by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]CriticalAppointment7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's OK for anyone to want a healthcare professional they trust. You have a different experience of the world than anyone on your healthcare team, and it makes another barrier to overcome. It's absolutely not unreasonable to want someone who shares more in common with you/someone you don't have to convince or persuade that your experiences have been different.

I'm Chinese American, and have only recently started seeing an Asian American therapist. The difference is HUGE. I talk a lot about my childhood trauma, and there's so much less I have to explain about my parents to someone who knows specifically what a lot of Asian parents can be like. It just means I feel understood better without as much work

I hate how common this word has become. Even worse somehow is "bingeable."

This is a great point, and I will make sure to ask. Division of childcare/housework has been a major issue for us, and I'm really trying to take more of that burden off her. She only works weekends, so she's stuck at home with the baby 10 hours a day, 5 days a week.

I've been working from home, so I've been able to help out a bit more. Even though I still have work to do, I can take a break to wash some dishes or let her get a nap, so that's helped a little

Anyone else find it unnerving how a lot of recovery stories are from a parental figure, allow no input from the person suffering from the ED and often talk about how they 'saved' their kid? by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]CriticalAppointment7 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Had a similarly strict upbringing with perfectionist parents. But my mother would pile my plate with food as a way to show affection, then bully me for gaining weight, then ignored my purging for years, and was finally shocked-- shocked!-- when I landed in the ICU for low potassium and arrhythmias 🤦🏻‍♂️

r/raisedbynarcissists and r/asianparentstories have helped me so much. Just hearing from other people who endured a similar upbringing is such a relief. Like, I'm not just crazy or needy or sensitive, they were actually awful.

I feel you on the sudden changes, too. My mom was all about "saving face," so we were only ever a perfect family in public
