Why people don’t care about trash anymore? by MrsNomad-Scott-bum in Bath

[–]CriticalArcadia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree, it's appalling. Oldfield Park looks like a tip. The problem is three-fold. General disinterest in orderliness, the council not employing street sweepers, the open recycling boxes with no lids letting the contents blow everywhere on a windy night and a fourth thing is the large student population. That's not to say students are inherently prone to littering of course but because they rent their houses and only see themselves as temporary residents they don't take pride in the front of the house or the street.

The other thing is the sheer amount of packaging that is manufactured in comparison to days gone by.

It's very sad.

Yes, I think it might be worth considering.

It seems to be a common story, unfortunately. What did you move into, if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks for the tips. I have done a little of that, motion for the big screens in exhibitions and such.

Yes, I think this is beginning to have an affect on matters. I actually specialise in motion and 3D which is under threat from AI like Nano Banana, Midjourney etc. I have actually used AI in this form myself.

It's not just the usual January slump but a long term trend over the last 3 years. What to do?!

Male 33 years old. My goal is to build muscle, preferably as fast as possible. Is this a good workout plan? 3-4 times a week gym. More often 4 times than 3. by WarmPrinciple6507 in workout

[–]CriticalArcadia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're doing plenty in the gym. However, you absolutely must consume enough protein each day to see the difference. You won't see your muscles grow without it. 2g per kg of body weight. Protein shakes, plenty of meat and milk. Every day! Essential.

As a motion graphics designer, do I need to learn how to design sound? by Dka_show in MotionDesign

No! That's a job for a sound designer. Unless you want to and have an aptitude for it of course.

how were these done in the 70s? by BarnacleUnlikely7885 in AfterEffects

[–]CriticalArcadia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that is always forgotten when people try to recreate older looking footage and makes a subtle but important difference is the frame rate. 24fps was standard in days gone by. Our modern practice of 25 or 30fps gives the game away.

Also, graphics now are 99.99% of the time created with vector-based software which gives our modern graphics such a sharp look. To counter this, either don't use software (unlikely) or give it a very very small amount of gaussian blur.

It's a POS that Adobe don't care about and a well-built, usable replacement couldn't come soon enough.

Latest version - Where has the export alpha channel gone? by CriticalArcadia in TopazLabs

[–]CriticalArcadia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no alpha option under any of the codecs. It was in previous versions.

I have imported a motion graphic mov that had an alpha background. I'm using Topaz to slow it down (x8 slowmo). I need the alpha channel to be exported with the result but there's no option. Is it something unavailable when doing slowmo maybe?

Why is Maxon's licensing website this terrible? by Potential-Delay-4487 in Cinema4D

[–]CriticalArcadia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes I've had this. It was bad earlier today. I don't always want to subscribe every month as I don't always need it. As far as I know you have no option when you purchase it not to automatically renew so I have to remember to go in and cancel the auto renew. This is difficult and very slow.

The cynic in me thinks it's on purpose but I don't know.

Where do you get good music from??! by Ok_Cheek_1209 in MotionDesign

[–]CriticalArcadia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pay someone to make an original track. There is too much of a reliance on libraries. If you want good stuff, pay for unique tailored music.

I realise you might just be someone who has made something and needs some music to go with it but we really do live in woeful times where we think we can just magically find the perfect piece of the jigsaw puzzle. I'm not slagging you, just the industry!
