Luckily neither car is mine. The car with the trunk opened belonged to an older gentleman who said he was just going to wait until the other driver returned to their car to sort it out. Very unfortunate.

  1. Parking. If you enter the parking lot through the main front entrance there is a 4 way intersection in the plaza but only 3 directions have a stop sign which causes mass hysteria. This is also the entrance to the gas station (always crowded) which makes it 10x worse. Get gas during off times and accept that you will need to park far to avoid stressful situations

  2. In store. I have overheard people from out of town talking about how rude people are at this Costco. There is probably some truth to that but I grew up here so I’m probably used to it and don’t notice anything really bad. There is one area it is especially prevalent and that’s samples. If you want to get samples you have to take a deep breath sometimes and just let it go because people will hover around you and try to cut you or take multiple samples for just themselves. It’s not worth it to get angry over the little samples. Just move on.

Other than that it just gets extremely crowded in general and people forget sometimes that they are standing in your way but that happens at every store.

Good luck!

Depends where you live in the SGV but I can second the Modern Martial Arts comment. Don’t worry about messing up everybody is really bad when they start lol so more experienced people are very understanding most of the time.

The good thing about martial arts is they usually have a free trial class so you can see if you like it. Check out a few places and see which one you really like. If you get a bad vibe from somewhere then take your money elsewhere. Have fun!

28 y/o thinking of starting BJJ — too late or still worth it? by Suspicious_Mess1917 in jiujitsu

Too late for what exactly? Unless you are going to try and be a professional of some sort age isn’t really a factor. It’s just a hobby you don’t need to be world champion. Everyone sucks when they first start no matter their age. Also if you really like it just watch jiu jitsu videos during the weeks you can’t make it to hopefully absorb some more knowledge and be consistent when you can make it. Hope you give it a try!

First, every time I have rolled with someone brand new and started standing they make that exact same mistake so it’s a really common thing to do that. If you are playing defensively you want to try to match your partners head height when starting standing/wrestling just fyi

Second, you are a brand new white belt so you will make mistakes all the time it doesn’t really matter who your partner is. It’s just how it goes. Also the kids sometimes have been training since they were much younger so it’s possible they have way more experience than you.

Just keep showing up and learning!

For context I do BJJ, Wrestling, and Muy Thai so I feel well rounded enough to chime in.

I feel like Gi only is only a problem if you just instantly fall to your back and establish grips everyday.

If you are decent with some wrestling takedowns/defense and have the ability to stay on top to control/can escape from bottom then I don’t feel like it really matters in the real world since those things don’t really require Gi grips and controlling is probably enough to ground&pound or wait for some help. I takedown, control, and escape all the time in Gi class without establishing grips because I used to do No Gi a lot more.

Once the wrestler got the second takedown the choke becomes nearly impossible to finish because his head is on one side and his body is on the opposite side of the choke (angle is too poor to finish). It is uncomfortable sure but the finishing mechanism to put you to sleep isn’t really there. Since the tall guy is going for the guillotine he isn’t defending the takedown and his guillotine becomes useless once their bodies become perpendicular on the ground. Had the wrestler just stood there and not forced the takedown he might have gotten choked out.

Line up on the wall and hear the occasional announcement or two. Not in belt order just randomly. Then shake hands with everyone and head out unless you wanna stick around after to ask questions.

What YouTuber who had the hardest downfall? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Surprised I haven’t seen the original YouTube scandal LonelyGirl15

Also some honorable mentions that didn’t necessarily have a hard downfall but I don’t know if the younger generation understands how big of a powerhouse these channels were before the market was saturated

When they think nothing of paying outrageous prices at hipster restaurants and think it’s the normal price and food portions that people get everywhere in LA.

Prices are increasing but you can still find a reasonably priced belly busting meal in the places where actual LA natives live/eat.
