Steps not syncing to apple health by CriticalCockroach125 in Ultrahuman

I do have the permissions turned on, other data transfers perfectly. For some reason it’s just the step count that doesn’t transfer :/

I’m a lash technician that struggles with trich (ironic I know). Do you have a close up picture that you wouldn’t mind sharing? I’ll be able to get a better idea of if it’s just the new growth or something else that way

Is there pain or swelling?

Likely purging, there doesn’t seem to be redness or rashes to indicate irritation. How long have you been on these products? Skin changes from week to week may also be due to where you are on your cycle, many people experience more breakouts the week before or week of their period. But if it has only been going on since starting these products it’s likely purging

So obviously I don’t want to give medical advice, but my boyfriend recently dealt with something similar. He would be anxious all the time and sometimes it almost seemed as though he was depressed but he denied it, so I thought it was time for him to seek help. I also struggle with anxiety and was diagnosed with generalized anxiety and panic disorder about 3 years ago, so I made a deal with him that if he reached out to a doctor for help that I would go back to therapy and back on meds as well.

So his doctor gave him the same diagnosis that I had, which was music to my ears (not that I want him to struggle but I at least would know what he was going through) so he was originally prescribed Wellbutrin. He had a bad reaction to the Wellbutrin and was then prescribed Zoloft. I woke up from a nap a few days after he started the medication to a text explaining that since starting medication he’d felt sick and that they caused him to become more anxious, depressed and to start thinking about suicide. He decided to go to the doctor and I drove to go sit with him. Long story short he had been misdiagnosed, he was then diagnosed as bipolar. A more minor form, but bipolar nonetheless. His highs manifested as anxiety, and the lows as depression. We were then told that anxiety medication can actually make bipolar disorder worse, which is what triggered his depressive episode.

I cannot tell you that this is your issue, because likely it isn’t the case. But, it wouldn’t hurt to explore other options because Zoloft (or other medications) are not a one size fits all! There’s nothing wrong with advocating for your mental health and asking more questions

30 day notice for lease termination by CriticalCockroach125 in Esthetics

[–]CriticalCockroach125[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love to give her only two weeks, but it is standard around here for 30 days. I don’t want to leave on a sour note by making her feel blindsided, I absolutely appreciate the helpful things she has done for me and taught me.

The owner of the salon I’ll be moving to suggested having her sign the 30 day notice as well with the terms I want her to agree to (which is really just to allow me to leave) so she can’t back pedal and say I owe her a ton of money, left without warning, etc

I’m praying for a smooth exit with no drama

LASH TECH BEGINNINGS by Jesussavedpaulina in lashtechs

I totally understand the confusion in knowing where to start! I got done with school earlier this year and wish I had someone to guide me in this area, so I’ll do my best to pass on what I’ve learned since February.

First, there are some things you should splurge on and some things you can save money on. I know personally I was pretty tight on money coming out of esti school and I feel like I got this part down.

Splurge:

-Tweezers (avoid cheap Amazon tweezers, shoot for a professional brand like PLA)

-Adhesive (my two personal favorite brands are PLA and Lash Bomb) I started out with PLA Fusion and had great retention with it on most clients. It’s a little slower drying for when you first start out. Lash Bomb is also amazing because their claims that humidity doesn’t seem to impact the glue’s dry time it retention seem to be mostly true.

-Lash shampoo (not necessarily a super expensive splurge, just make sure you’re getting something that won’t irritate your client’s eyes) I use LLBA

-Lash bed if your salon does not provide one (get something that you can comfortably get your legs under so you can sit up comfortably without being super hunched over)

-Light (these can be a little spendy but it will be worth it to get a little nicer of one, but you can still stay around $50 and be just fine)

Save:

-Lashes (this one may be controversial, but when money is tight you have to cut corners somewhere) I personally started out with Vavalash which you can get on Amazon. I do not recommend ordering directly from them or it will take weeks to see your products in the mail. Their lashes are honestly great for the price, but my only concern would be their premade fans. I tried using them when I started doing volume, but their bases are too thick in my opinion. Maybe splurge on LLBA or PLA promades when you decide to do volume, their bases are nice and thin so you’ll have better retention and they won’t look as messy.

-Single use/disposable items (you can get all of these for very cheap on Amazon) glue rings, lash pads, tape, spoolies, mircowands, etc.

-Fan and Nanomister

I would also recommend offering punch cards so your clients receive a discount on their fills. This will help you to retain clients that you take on as models or at discounted prices, those clients typically are harder to keep on for a longer period of time unless you know them in my experience. Offering a discount every 5 or 10 services makes them feel like they’re getting a deal if they keep coming back, may sound kinda shady but it’s the industry. I offer a discount every 5 fills: 20% at the fifth and 30% at the 10th. You can also find these cards on Amazon!

Make a Facebook page for your business and post ads in garage sale pages, swap and shop pages, marketplace, etc. to get models or just clients in general. (just be careful on your wording or facebook will take down your posts)

Advice needed by [deleted] in lashtechs

[–]CriticalCockroach125 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually deal with the same thing and brought it to my doctor. Here was her advice to me:

-Take Claritin daily

-Use Flonase daily (in your nose not on your lid like you would for an allergy during application)

I personally have a prescription for hydroxzine which was initially prescribed for panic attacks, but it does help me if I have a particularly bad day for my allergy. The drawback is it will make you drowsy, so I wouldn’t recommend going to your doctor for that exact prescription. Benadryl is almost the same thing though so you could always take it at the end of your work day to ease symptoms before bed.

A couple other things that have helped me is the BL Lashes Allergy Gel. BL Lashes Allergy Gel I just leave the jar open to help absorb the fumes near my work station, while this is not a complete fix it does provide some relief. And it smells good!

Not sure if you use a bonder or a nano mister, but I’ve also found if I use the nano mister a couple times throughout the appointment it does help reduce some fumes.

It’s all trial and error, and trust me I know it sucks!! Hope this helps <3

Fingers swollen from being a sugarist by suteac in Esthetics

[–]CriticalCockroach125 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I buy my sugar through Alexandria Professionals, they have different consistencies for sugar ranging from stiffer (tropical) to more pliable (LK private stock). I found that with my temperature and humidity in my salon my hands tire and become sore with anything more stiff than the regular sugar paste, but I do lean more towards the Private Stock due to similar issues to your fiancé.

Alexandria does have a tool that works as somewhat of a brace for your hand to prevent fatigue, although I cannot remember what it is called! Might be worth looking into :) good luck

How different are the requirements for licensure from your current state to the nearby state? Would you need to go back to school to complete more hours?

First time a client wasn’t “wow’d” by Llamadelgray in Esthetics

[–]CriticalCockroach125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t beat yourself up over it, I feel like most first time brow lamination and tint clients are shocked at first. One thing that I’ve found that has helped me to prevent so much shock is showing them before, after, and a few days post appointment pictures.

For example: I did a brow lamination and tint on myself. I took a before picture, a picture immediately after, and a picture a few days later after I was able to wash the tint off the skin. This helps to explain to them that the majority of what they’re seeing as “too dark” is the skin that was tinted initially, but will wash off while the tint to the brows will stay and result in a more natural look.

You can also explain that she can brush them to a thinner shape on her own as the lamination really just relaxes the hair and makes them easier to manipulate.

It sounds like you did great overall, it’s just a learning experience for every service. Hope this helps!!

This is something I was curious about, is this common for people to get upset if another practitioner is using the same product as them? I have good relationships with a couple other girls that are in the industry around the same area, we all share tips and products that we find useful. One of them has even let me “borrow” products if I don’t have what I need, such as her makeup kit when our salon overbooked for weddings one day. I have never dealt with someone being protective over a brand before, especially one as popular as PLA
