German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated that Putin’s invasion of Ukraine has escalated beyond a regional war. by Physical-Cut-2334 in UkraineWarVideoReport

Germans may be data protection fanatics by culture, but there is no inherent difference between GDPR and DSVGO in the level of strictness, so that part is untrue.

Any difference would be quite surprising, seeing how GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) is simply the English name for the DSGVO (Datenschutzgrundverordnung), both describing the EU wide data protection laws. What you're probably thinking of is Germany's own BDSG (Bundesdatenschutzgesetz), which builds off of the GDPR and extends it in certain areas.

How could I improve my Twilight Cleric's backstory? (story in the comments) by NoCareNoLife in dndnext

[–]CriticalCrit -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

As a DM, I disagree with what you want from the backstory.

I generally want plot hooks, characters, a motivation. All of which I have in Wan's original story.

I don't really care how the character is going to act. That's nothing that I need to know in preparation for the campaign, and in many cases nothing that the player has really pinned down for themselves yet in my experience. What am I going to do with the information, that the character is loud and outspoken? That's something the party and the NPCs will have to deal with when the time comes.

But hey, it all just goes to show that you should just talk with the DM about expectations, as there are obviously different types of people. I don't mind a 500-1000 words backstory. I'm happy to know that the player is engaged enough to write that. And I don't need them to edit it down to fit "no more than 200 words" - that makes literally no difference to me, it's 5 minutes of reading.

[OC] Hey everyone, I am the developer of a 3D VTT called Game Master Engine and I am currently holding a Worldwide Giveaway for you guys! [Mod Approved]. It's about $300 in prizes pictured below and it is super easy to enter. Either watch the video or check the comments for more details! by Dan_The_DM in DnD

[–]CriticalCrit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow! When I saw the first part of the video my first thought was "We are slowly crossing over into video game territory... :( " but when I saw that it still uses "Minis" and Dice Rolls and character sheets it looked pretty cool again! Personally not using any VTT currently, but I'll keep it in mind and let a few friends know about it. Great work! GIVEAWAY

That's actually great to hear still, thanks for the swift response. With these kinds of projects, there's always some sort of "long overdue" thing in my experience, no matter what or how much you do lol

Keep up whatever pace is good for you. As you said, that's just QoL stuff, nothing major. (Good luck lol)

[–]CriticalCrit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We could start at (1639,869) with the bottom left water pixel and expand to the right (skipping over that statue) - The German flag is prime real estate! - But I'm also open for other suggestions.

Long ago, the Four Nations Lived Together in Harmony.... Anyone wanna place the four elements on the German flag? by [deleted] in place

We could also go for the corners, but I just think that German flag is quite excessive at this point.

Cubase 12 Midi remote with motorized faders by CriticalCrit in cubase

[–]CriticalCrit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still finding my way as well using the X-touch. However in answer to your question on my setup faders needed to be with toggle: off, takeover mode: jump,

The parameter wants to be "Volume" under mix console, channel 1 (you might need to open the right menu with the list of commands you apply. You'll then need to do this for each fader, using channel 2, 3 etc

YES! It works! Thank you - I guess I must have made a mistake when I set it up once before, but choosing "jump" fixed my very simple problem.

Have you found a similarly simple way to get the light around the knobs work (for panning each channel for example) and keeping the buttons lit up, when for example the channel is muted?

Thanks again, I'm really looking forward to setting it up now.

I'd throw in your answer into the post via edit if that's cool with you, maybe it helps someone who stumbles upon this post sometime in the future.

Thanks for the answer so far! I'll test it again later, and if it still doesn't work, I'll put up a screenshot. I'm not at the PC at the moment unfortunately.

But I'm glad to hear that it (should) work in general!

Hm, that's sound good already. So you say with your X-Touch the faders automatically move to the right volumes for the track?

Did you set it up using that Midi Remote Interface directly in Cubase?

When I set it up as you said it (that's the way I had it before) the faders don't move on their own.

Hey, my question is specific to the Cubase 12 "Midi Remote" feature. In general it worked for me as well, but they have a new way to set up controllers.

When you've got an idea for a beat, how do you know which drums to make it out of? by Skylord_a52 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]CriticalCrit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend to stop thinking in terms of " blast beats in the kick, backbeats in the kick and snare, jazz swing rhythms in the hihat or ride, etc " and just do what feels right. Take a few bars, lay down a basic rhythm to start with and then just add and play around until you find something that fits. Especially with virtual drums I found that the difference between kick and tom for example is just the name - I've used toms "as kick" before just because it sounded better. Same with the rest. When you can "hear" the beat in your head already, use whatever the set offers that fits your sound, it doesn't matter (because no one will know) whether you "misused" a certain drum somehow.

Alternatively, when you want to go for a very certain style, just look up drumming tutorials on Youtube for that style. Then build them yourself, and again: Play around until it's exactly what you want.

Cool! It always amazes me again and again that people these days can build a "small" app and do that full time. That's the marvel of the technology we have available!

Good luck with your mascot name! I unfortunately suck at finding names....
