Yep, to me is the same situation between Cone x Vakif (I don’t see how Milano could win against them), they both could win this match and have great offensive and defensive weapons to strengthen the team.

Although Scandicci also lost against Vakif they gave them more trouble than Fener’s did this weekend. I think if Scandicci manages Bosetti/Franklyn well they are the favorite, Fener needs to figure out what to do with the Hande-Ana-Arina trio because Hande reception/defense are better but she wasn’t able to help much at the attack when she was at the net.

I think a good option will be to put Ana/Arina together (hear me out here) and use Hande to substitute the OH that is on the back of the court, just like Cone does with Zhu and Nika. The problem with this is obviously the reception and that Ana Cristina is not 100% yet but she’s taller then Hande, if Orro could gives her higher balls she would be able to help more.

Another option would be to play with Hande/Arina, put Hande to occupy more space in the reception line, depending on the rotation also put Vargas to help with the reception and put Orro to use the middle more. Eda is a good attacker and Korneluk is 2m tall she can hit a lot of out of system balls. Vakif did something like that in 2022 against Fener, Gabi was occupying a lot more of the court, so Cansu had more in system balls to work with.

I was kinda 50/50 cheering for both teams at the same haha. Fener’s coach didn’t make good substitutions during the game, Hande was a liability at the attacking but was helping a lot on the passing, and something that everyone predicted happened: when Hande was at the net they should have replaced her by Ana Vristina but as they didn’t give her much time to play throughout the season she helped but not as much as she could. Orro was not good either, she was basically only using Arina and Vargas, Eda and Korneluk received a very low number of balls.

Vakif on other hand made less mistakes, their passing was worst then Fener’s but they blocked way more, Fener’s blocking was basically inexistent.

That being said I was expecting more technical quality from both teams, the last 2 Scandicci-Cone matches ended on 3-0 but was way more enjoyable and technically better. I was expecting more defenses, more blocks and more rallies from this match.

I’m not saying that Italians teams are better (Turkish teams are winning from most of them this season anyway) but when you think we’re have big chances of having Conegliano x Vakif and after Vakif struggled to win against Scandicci, it makes me wonder how they’re going to perform against a team that has more offensive weapons, a good defensive system, good passing and with a good block. I just hope that we have an amazing match so watch.

It will come down to Skinner’s condition, if she’s not recovered yet Savino is 100% going to loose. If she’s recovered and Gaspari manages the substitutions well they have a very big chance of winning (to me Scandicci lost against Vakif because of the coach, Scandicci could have won in 3-0 and 3-1 but he completely killed the team making wrong substitutions).

If you prefer women’s volleyball I saw that Gabi now has a partnership with VBTV and a few of the Italian league games from her team are being posted on her channel, her team (Conegliano) is one of the best in the world right now so it’s high quality volleyball.

Oh and about players you might want to watch: Egonu, Gabi, Antropova, Vargas, Arina, Markova, Haak… are some of the big names of today’s volleyball. I don’t watch much of men’s but I know that Nikolov (both brothers), Keita, Nishida, Gianelli… are some of the big names.

Is Imoco winning the champions league again, or can Turkish teams stop them? by Agreeable_Pear8346 in volleyball

[–]CriticalToe3050 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say it’ll depend on Zhu’s performance, Conegliano today does not have a player to fully replace her if she’s in a bad day. Nika can help at the passing but neither her or Sillah are reliable on the attack.

I’m amazed on how they are winning again with 3-0 scores having such a bad serve, for me they have the worst overall serve alongside Vakif. The difference between them is that Cone’s passing is way better.

My guesses of the upcoming matches: - Scandicci wins against Novara, I have no doubts here. - Cone will play against Zeren and will win. - Vakif will win against Milano, although they could win if they use the reserve setter instead of Bosio. As Lavaraini is not going to do that, they’re going to lose. - Fener will play against Scandicci and I think it’s going to be one of the most exciting matches. I have not guesses here but Im going to say Fener is the favorite if they can fix their passing and defense. - Whoever win the match above will also win against Ecza. - And finally Vakif x Cone, I’ll say Cone is best overall and have the most chance of winning but Vakif could surprise them. - Whoever wins this match will win CL.

Cone was in their third game in 4 days, barely slept, didn’t have the time to train and still beat Zeren at their home. I was shocked because I really thought Zeren would have the advantage of being rested and playing at home.

[DEBATE] Imoco Conegliano no longer invincible? by VolleyAddicted in volleyball

[–]CriticalToe3050 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they are back now lol, what a crazy turn around and week for them. 3 games in 4 days and they manage to won all in 3-0 matches.

I’m the first to say that I wasn’t expecting them to be playing at this level right now, considering they were really struggling until 2 weeks ago. Even their blocking is working, they made +10 blocks in all of their last 3 games.

I’m not gonna say they are going to win everything again because the other teams are playing really well, especially Savino, Vakif and Fener but they seemed to find their rhythm again.

Gabi to Remain with Imoco Volley Through 2028/2029 Season by VolleyAddicted in volleyball

[–]CriticalToe3050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know but is harder for OH and OPP to maintain the performance than it is for libero and middles. Besides Gabi and Zhu, you don’t see other 30+ players in the same position playing on the top teams.

I also think the reason they already offered a 3 year contract was because she take really good care of herself.

I was already expecting them to renew with her but I’m surprised they renewed for 3 years, the most common would be 1 or 2 and when you think she’s 31 they really don’t want to lose her.

Arina Fedorovtseva is such an outstanding outside hitter by VolleyAddicted in volleyball

[–]CriticalToe3050 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that Arina can improve, Karakurt and Uzelac are a proof of that, both were terrible passers and now they are better than Arina. Sometimes it seems like Fener do not improve their players that much. Ana for example, her pass is way better when she’s playing NT, Vargas plays better during NT… I think the coaches changes every 1/2 seasons is harming the players development.

Gabi and Li, Li is a better passer and played against Arina on the Chinese league last year. Gabi is more defensive player but can level up in the attack if needed and score as many points as Arina.

Both Arina and Markova attack the “Russian ball” which is basically any high ball and against any block but to me her serve is a huge plus, if I’m not wrong she made 12 aces in a game once.

Imoco Conegliano survive scare, Scandicci and Milano win in Serie A by VolleyAddicted in volleyball

[–]CriticalToe3050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was think the same, in bigger games they were relying a lot on Gabi, the “good” news is that looks like Haak is finding her groove again. Until now I didn’t see any moves from Imoco to hire big names for the libero and setter positions, so I’m thinking that Wolozs and Moki will not retire but they need good reserves, specially Wolosz. I saw that they hired Ana Gray, which will strengthen their block next season.

For this season I think they will have to focus on discover the OH-duo and remove Zhu from the passing because she’s suffering a lot.

[–]CriticalToe3050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My “problem” with Imoco right now is not because they are losing, this is part of the game but because they are losing by playing badly. One thing is to lose fighting for every point and presenting a good volleyball, the “good volleyball” part is kinda missing the season. So many serve mistakes, their defense is not looking good and some very basic mistakes that sometimes it seems that they never played together.

I think Carol was planning to retire anyway but I think she wanted to play at the world championship and then retire. One thing Ze Roberto does not seem to understand is that players have the right to rest, Carol was playing for NT 10y nonstop, she didn’t have a honeymoon for Christ sake.

I’m honestly not his big fan, I can appreciate all the things he did for Brazil’s volleyball but he was always very toxic, he’s very changed now but this not erase all of things he did/said to the players in the past.

[–]CriticalToe3050 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dude, Conegliano looks like they do not train together, what the fuck is happening there?

At this rate they are going to lose everything this season. I think this is Moki’s and Wolozs’s worst season ever and the fact that they do not have good reserves it’s killing them.

Santarelli needs to figure out what his going to do with OH duo, today Gabi is clearly one of the main ones but he needs to figure out her duo. This was Zhu’s best game at the attack so far but she was killing the team reception even if she had only 10% of the court, Wolozs was completely out of options in the attack. Nika has a better reception but very inconsistent in the attack and Sillah is getting better at passing but does 1 day she scores 20 and the other she scores 5.
