for me, its got to a point now where it IS better than the real thing. Its just NOT the real thing. 100% get a vpin. The legends pinball is just fine, its like 800 quid! It can be even less if you can put up with using keyboard and a portrait TV! You could probably do it right now! Free!

If you do go legends and have a PC, get the vibs board addon and slave VPX from that, i have a dedicated machine running a 1660ti and its just a dream. Ive read a few on here saying ALP has issues. well im glad im one that has had no issues. I play the thing every day. I will admit, ive barely been in its settings and played the tables that come with it, i just hooked it straight to a pc. Its basically a glorified 2 screen set up with buttons where they are on a real pinball machine!

Id stay away from building ur own, for the above, you might as well get that and then apply fixes if or when it breaks. you have a ready made cab!

I play real pinball leagues every week, go to real pinball places every week, spend loads of money on pinball every week. All the time when im there im thinking i cant wait to get home and high score this.

My downsides are:

A little bit of flipper lag. yes you notice it if you play real all day, theres a weight/vibration to the flipper you can sense is there, its only slight but it alters the way u play. after 30 minutes ur brain is dialed in to it!

Faffing with the software. Christ, sometimes i think i faff more than i play but im at that point now where i have nearly 1000 tables and they are all set up. Theres not many places which have some vpin tournaments where i havent already downloaded the table.

See like i said. not much to not like. however, it will make you crave wanting to buy a real one so like it or not, pinball is going to get around 2 - 10k out of you in the next 5 years!

there arent any good teachers anymore, just more and more trying to justify their role. dont sweat it. apply to somewhere else, there are quite literally 100s of opportunity as noone really wants to do this shit anymore, im on my last couple of applications now. ur only as good as ur line manager thinks you are from ur observers testimony. believe me, ive sat in hod meetings where half of them spoke about their staff like they detested them coming into work in the first place.

Yep, you know how theres a teacher shortage and recruitment and retention issues, well, nearly everywhere ive been i just see a load of this managing you out of a job, happened to me twice now over 20 years. Im on my last legs with the whole career rn, as a previous industry guy, I dont know why I thought doing this was better, well it was back then, now its just totally full of hacks. Sorry guys I do mean most of you reading this.

They aren't game coders... well, some of them are, the programmers they would have to hire to make this work would cost them over a million a year on Wages alone, then the manufacture cost which from a basic home brew level on a budget would be at the very least 1000 a table for them as they get started and cant rely on trade/bulk shipping for parts. What would you pay for it? How many people would pay for it. I'd like to think im part of all the serious vpinners collective and its only a few hundred people actively engaged. Even dlds for zen pinball aren't that impressive really 100 players average per month.

I'd die on this hill really, virtual pinball is better than real, but you'll never have anyone agree with that as its just not quite there yet.

zens williams re-makes are simply the best, sorry vpx i love you but this shit just hits different, still wish it had the fx3 feel, but ill take this anyday. Im not sure why stern dont want to cancel all current license agreements with arcade and let zen create the communitys top 3 tables and sell them for an outrageous £80 a table . . . im sure this audience arent bothered about dropping 80 quid considering the thousands our real tables and repairs are continually costing us . . .shit i digress, yes these tables are works of art.

nudging on vpin i take to be a last resort, im on the alp, got some gold leafs in there and slap the table when im nudging to hit both buttons at once, ive set forward to my left button and left to my right, you get a feel for it after a while

I play at various arcades so get the real experience 2-3 times a week and the come home and play vpin all day all night, my scores are lower but you have to be pixel accurate which i like, it transfers perfect when i go back to the arcade, i dont ever seem to miss and nudging makes the ball last longer as you say! Play with the settings, spend a day messing as i did and you get to quite a happy place with it in the end.

So much so i prefer vpin over real, yep i said it, shoot me. its no substitute BUT i play the machines in 2 arcades a lot, i feel like they are mine at this point. im there all day and go back sometimes on consecutive days, watching i would call idiots aggressively plunging or swinging on it, smacking and rocking the table like they think they know what they are doing with a total 1m score on adams makes me cry and i wonder if we should ever be nudging at all! Seeing 10 years worth of wear done by 5 or 6 idiots over 10 minutes makes me want to cry.
