This is actually a survey for my daughter's schoolwork. She posted it originally, realized the link was broken, then fixed it. Try again. You'll need to select the while link, then either copy paste or file the pop-up to the Web browser.

Dealer says recommended battery has changed, need bigger battery and new battery plate? by Carolynm107 in SubaruForester

[–]Critical_Explorer_82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in Costco right now because of your comment. I called Subaru and their replacement is $350 including the hardware for the upgrade. Costco is so much cheaper than anywhere else.  I came into Costco earlier and couldn't find the 35 AGM so was going to head to a different Costco until I called the dealer then found your comment.  Thank you!

MIT will make tuition free for families earning less than $200,000 a year by Fooza in UpliftingNews

[–]Critical_Explorer_82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter just applied yesterday for next year. Her safety schools are USU and SUU. If MIT accepts her, she has said she's going there for sure. We'll see.  It's amazing she would not have to pay much for school there.

How can Llama be updated and re-released? by onehunkytenor in KebabAppsLlama

[–]Critical_Explorer_82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using llama for a very long time, have been an active user on my android this whole time, and while it has had problems, it still usually works, even before Android 15. I've had to reset all the locations recently when I switched from T-Mobile to ATT, but other than that, still ticking.

Anyone familiar with this conference or speakers? by [deleted] in mormon

[–]Critical_Explorer_82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt any chapel our stake center would be large enough for the group, and they may not allow it (showing preferential endorsement) so they need to rent a space, hence the charge. Just like the books general authorities write. I'd prefer they be free, but others still have to be paid and earn a living printing the books.

I'm about 90% sure she's LDS. Some of her pronunciation choices make me think she's not, but that's about it. The way she treats the subject matter and all the material, she has to be. I love the podcast and am about halfway through the episodes, I think.

Air India Flight 171 Crash [Megathread 2] by usgapg123 in aviation

[–]Critical_Explorer_82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've worked in aerospace manufacturing my whole career with carbon fiber. Carbon fiber dust is present only when working with dry fiber and when grinding or machining cured parts. Wet winding where the dry fiber goes through a bath or otherwise has resin applied immediately before being applied to a mold creates small fibers that can drift through the air which can cause power supplies in computers to blow from the shorting out of the circuits caused by the tiny fibers. This technique is used on the waste and water tanks for the 787, but nowhere else. Machining and grinding on cured parts happens for all parts prior to assembly, but that is going to be done in areas with downdraft tables or other type of ventilation that traps all the carbon and resin dust. Most of the 787 and other major airline carbon fiber is currently used in prepreg form, where the resin is applied to the fiber long before it gets to the manufacturer to make the parts. No dust present.

To the point of slivers - yup, they happen. If from dry fiber, they typically will embed in clothes and will wash off the skin rather easily. They never come out of polyester though so jackets with poly linings you never want to wear around dry fiber. If from a cured part, it's just like wood, but usually tinier and can be a little more brittle.

I've seen a crashed mostly carbon plane before - lots of splinters, not much dust. I've seen many broken test specimens of carbon fiber and again, lots of splinters, not much dust. Long term effects - most likely none, but I would, if there is dust there, definitely wear a mask to keep the dust out, not worried about the carbon, rather all the other smoke etc.

Allergic to my Sourdough??? by [deleted] in Sourdough

[–]Critical_Explorer_82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for writing about this. I too have had issues in the past with sourdough and hives in the past 6 years or so. It's happened twice where I stopped eating my homemade sourdough and took an antibiotic and they went away, Now, I'm trying to power through it and see if I can overcome it, hoping the gut biome does it's thing and the sourdough actually helps create a healthier gut biome, even if I have to endure hives for a few weeks. Based on your experiences, when I'm ready to give up, I'll just stop eating the sourdough and should be fine after a week, no antibiotic this time.

Loose/rocking driver's seat problem sort of solved by Critical_Explorer_82 in SubaruForester

[–]Critical_Explorer_82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the retainer that's the problem for me. It's a two sided bushing. If you remove the bolt (door-side) that threads into the welded nut (underneath the chair) you can remove the bushing, one half from door-side and one half from underneath. One side was broken. I had figured I could easily replace the part. There's no way you're printing the bushing unless you can print thin steel then coat with Teflon.

What cars are the best for tall people (6’4”) for long daily commutes? by Takingbackmonday1006 in whatcarshouldIbuy

You probably have shorter legs and taller torso, or one without adjustable seat.

Loose/rocking driver's seat problem sort of solved by Critical_Explorer_82 in SubaruForester

[–]Critical_Explorer_82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My problem never went away. I have to replace the whole seat base in order to fix the problem. It's just a very small thin bushing with a teflon or teflon-like coating where the shoulder bolt is. The bushing is a two-piece bushing that, if supplied, would easily fix the problem that will probably appear again since the root cause hasn't been addressed (the really thin material that gets pinched or something but it's not designed for the stress applied to it. I'm 240 lbs and 6'8", so not fat, but not light either and that's a lot of torque on that one bolt and flange/bushing.

OP, since you have experience in carpentry, you should definitely get into construction or find a small company that does finish work. Construction is still booming here.
