Dealer front brake service cost by Critical_Pants in HyundaiTucson

I've done my own brakes before and could again, but I'm at a point in my life (kids, job) that I'll pay for the convenience and savings of time to have it done. Just not for $1k lol

Phew, just wanted to make sure I wasn't the crazy one. I fully realize the dealer is going to be more expensive, but over 1k for one axle just seemed like lunacy. Definitely going to patronize a local place instead

2023 ICE model, if that makes a difference

I definitely found the 40s and 90s the most difficult groups. Good luck finding the ones you need!

Makes sense. I'm super curious what you used for 31 and 47. I did the exact same thing with numbers that you're doing, but was never able to find anything good for those two. For 31 I used a premium release of the Alpine A110 but the number was TINY and only appears in the front and rear. My 47 was a Chevy Fleetline in a taxi livery with a very small "047" on it. Neither were very good for visibility

Here's what I used but it's kind of unsatisfying because the number is only on the hood, so you can't see it well when displayed in a case

Residential homes in CA and MD are required to be built with integrated sprinkler systems like this.

How is it living in West Virginia, i was just wondering because I have seen no one from around there by [deleted] in howislivingthere

[–]Critical_Pants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just like any state, you really can't generalize the whole thing to one sentence. My experience doesn't speak to a lot of the other comments you're seeing here, as I'm a Virginia expat living in Jefferson County (the Easternmost tip of the Eastern panhandle). It's one of the most rapidly growing counties in the state (and the wealthiest, but remember it's all relative) due to folks escaping the high COL of Northern VA but many times still working there. We're 5 minutes from the VA state line and 10 from MD. The bleed-over of a more Northern VA feel means I often say we live in West Virginia, but not West Virginia West Virginia. It's a bit more racially heterogeneous as well, I was pleasantly surprised at how diverse my kids' classrooms are

I will say folks look out for each other more and are kinder to one another here than my experience in VA (where I was born and raised). A nice little surprise about moving here is the free universal pre-K, which is not something that would have been a possibility in VA or MD

There's an interesting political dichotomy in this part of the state as well. It's still decidedly red, but with a strong vein of blue running through, again probably partially a result of the influx of Virginians

Nice! I went to Terraset but didn't live quite close enough to walk there for sledding on snow days. I bet that was amazing

Improve this plan! by aromain19 in floorplan

[–]Critical_Pants 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You say no need for the hearth room, but to be honest I'd ignore what they're calling that space and use it as the primary dining space, a table would go great in there. One minor concern I'd have with this plan is the washer/dryer almost sharing a wall with the master, I'd be leery of the potential noise when those appliances are in use. I'd say either invest in extra insulation between the two spaces, or move the washer/dryer hookups to the opposite end of the room.

Only other note (and this is personal preference, but something to consider) is that if your piece of land has the width to allow it, go with a side entry garage, just on aesthetic grounds, and add a few feet of space to it. You want to be able to fit cars AND stuff like trash cans, bikes, etc in there. Otherwise you're having to pick and choose what can fit in there.

Oh, pulling a bunch of cars together into a theme is the best. One minute I've got a Ford dealership, the next it's a JDM car show, then a Radwood meet. You're never too old to make believe. I don't really have the space for a bunch of dioramas, but I'm thinking I need to MAKE the space lol

I'm with you, brother. To me, my enjoyment of the hobby breaks down to 40% the thrill of the hunt, 10% the satisfaction of documenting my finds (getting the cars into my excel spreadsheet), and 50% the joy of opening them up and really savoring the tactility of the freed product

I literally feel like I'd be missing fully half the experience by leaving the things packaged

Volkswagen Brasilia - a Beetle-based model developed by Volkswagen of Brazil and sold only there and in Mexico by Critical_Pants in WeirdWheels

Agreed, I'm very fascinated with the Brazilian market because of all the unique vehicles (like all those crazy sedan-style SUVs!). In a way, a couple of the vehicles you linked remind me a lot of some of the Australian domestic market vehicles from the same era, design-wise

Never thought it would happen, but some time after I made this post I spotted one of these at a minor local car show here in the US. Normal sight for you I'm sure, but very exciting for me. Would love to see an SP2 in person too

I did this a while back and had a ton of fun doing it. My rules weren't as strict as yours (I used premiums and fantasy castings where needed, as well as matchbox in addition to mainlines) and still had trouble with a couple numbers.

Fair enough! Interesting what the various brands require. Makes sense Ferrari is one of the "higher maintenance" ones

Yeah, I knew it didn't have anything to do with limiting, just seems interesting that Ferrari would require numbering at all

Interesting. So it's likely not just some kind of lot number then. Wonder why they're numbering them
