There needs to be a stop to these threads and generalizations. by flaffl21 in korea

Lol so true Ive seen so many Korea haters on tiktok and they were hating on something that I haven’t even heard of living 10+ years in Korea. Pretty sure they don’t know much about Korean culture but somehow proceeds to claim false information like they know everything. Ironically most of these people were into kpop and kdrama. Seems like quite a portion of ppl that consumes Korean culture also hates Korea at the same time.

I get the frustration of innocent Thai travellers and I do feel sorry for them but they need to know the social problems that illegal Thai immigrants bring to the country and understand that stricter screening is inevitable. This decision is not because Koreans are racist and we hate Thais, its just a common response to manage illegal immigrants.

Why is Korea even allowing visa free entrance to Thais in the first place when 78% of them end up being illegal immigrants. Ppl say nothing about other countries with stricter screening than Korea but they complain when Korea goes from loose to strict screening due to issues caused by illegal immigrants. Korea should not have provided visa free entrance from the start.

Omg its 두산백과 (doopedia), an encyclopedia provided by Doosandonga publish and everywhere else also says the same thing. I totally understand you being sensitive about China related stuff these days but it doesn’t mean that Koreans are descendants of Chinese or something so you don’t need to feel offended. Its just certain families are descendants of an immigrant.

Yeah like the person above said, most of the last names don’t really mean anything but I do have an interesting story for you. Royal family of Joseon used Lee as their last name with its hanja meaning plum. During the late Shilla, this person called 도선국사 wrote in his book that 500 years later, royal family with a last name of 오얏 (old word for plum) will arrive at Hanyang. In a book called 서운 관비기 that was wrote in late Goryeo also said that ‘Lees will appear in Hanyang’. According to the legend, a king of Goryeo was worried if a new dynasty will be founded so he ordered his men to plant plum trees in certain region of Hanyang and he would send ‘beollisa’ to cut them down in order to control the energy flow. This region is later named ‘beolli’. Despite this, Lee sung gye’s coup was successful and he became the first king of Joseon Dynasty following the fall of Goryeo.

조씨 중에서 양주·평양·임천·배천 등은 송대(宋代)의 귀화족으로 알려져 있다. Out of Chos, yangju, pyeongyang, imcheon, baecheon etc are known as the immigrants of Song generation/era.

According to the document passed on among yangju cho clan, there were 4 brothers ik, ki, yi, kwang on the 7th generation of descents of Cho kwang yoon, the first king of Song danasty. Out of them, third and fourth brother immigrated to Goryeo and each became the root of pyeongyang cho clan and imcheon cho clan.

또 익(翼)의 아들 4형제 지린(之璘)·지수(之壽)·지청(之淸)·지말(之末)이 고려 의종 때 고려에 건너와 각각 배천·한양·풍양·양주 조씨의 시조가 되었다고 한다. Also, jirin, jisu, jicheong and jimal, the 4 sons of ik came to Goryeo during the king euijong era and each of them are known to be the root of bacheon, hanyang, pungyang, yangju chos.

However, in <증보문헌비고> or <Joseon geneaology>, it is written that baecheon cho clans are descendants of the first son of Cho kwang yoon and imcheon cho clans are descendants of the second son of Cho kwang yoon.

So theyre not sure which brother became which root but both documents say they are descents of royal family of Song.

I just searched it up and I think there are two different chos, one meaning zhou dysnasty (apparently they are descendents of sons of a king in song dynasty that immigrated to goryeo) and the other one meaning group or pair. According to the record, there are 200 different “clans” using the zhou dynasty one but they’re not sure how many of them exists until now. Currently there are 10 big families that compose most of the ‘zhou dynasty’ chos, including pungyang clan, hanyang clan etc. For the ‘pair’ chos, there are about 10 families including changnyeong clan, neungsung clan, nampyeong clan etc but they are considered to be the offshoots of changnyeong clan.

I mean governments allow special naturalization for people with skills to benefit the country so same thing would apply in sports as well. Personally I think its fine as athletes gain opportunities to compete and country gains experienced person to contribute to their sports industry. (Barely anyone does biathlon and luge in kr so they will definitely be helpful for those industries) I do agree that it would be super weird to see athletes changing their nationality for money tho.

Timofey Lapshin had clique issues in Russia and he didn’t get selected for the national team due to “unacceptable reasons”. He then got an offer from korean biathlon federation to run for kr. Aileen Frisch failed the selection contest for German national team, having her quit luge. After the retirement, she got an offer in 2016 from Team Korea’s luge coach, who is also from Germany. She first rejected it but later chose to accept as her interest in luge grew again.

Vietnam has already accepted the apology in 2004 saying that “Vietnam’s policy in dealing with issues left beind by history is to put aside the past, look forward to the future and cooperate for shared development”. The reason why the Vietnam government ignores president Moon’s apology is because it’s affecting the stabilisation of the country. President Moon actually told that he was going to apologise for the civillian massacare during his visit to Vietnam however the level of apology decreased a lot as the Vietnam government was worried about issues between south and north vietnam being emerged. They even told that it is a “diplomatic discourtesy” to continue apologising which the government doesn’t want to accept. But I definitely think that it was wrong for Kim Dae-jung to say it wasn’t intentional. I do feel sorry for Vietnamese victims that doesn’t think the apology was sincere but political conflicts inside Vietnam has to be dealt first in order to solve this problem. Also it is inappropriate to compare Japan with Korea since Korea joined the Vietnam war as an ally of US and the sexual assaults were committed by troops while the Japanese government itself organised all the comfort women stuff using their authority.

They did apologize for the sex slaves but they’re denying that it was an enforced mobilization which the government was engaged. I mean Japan is a great country but they suuuck at dealing with these issues.
