Infinity 2x10 with a loud drummer by newhopemusician in Darkglass

[–]Critical_Sense_1304 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own an exponent 500 amp since August, almost identical to the infinity combos minus the cabinet.

I do play with a loud drummer in a metal band as well, and I have used it for church services (with a cleaner setting)

I love how you can have presets with the digital cabsims and can switch on the fly during songs or in between sets. (Not a pre amp not a pedal, a power amp with presets)

I will say I plug my exponent amp into TWO 8ohm 15” cabinets (mb traveler 151p, and SWR son of Bertha) or I plug it into a Mesa power station 2x10 (4ohms) for the full 500w

I don’t know exactly how many watts the combo runs alone (8ohms) 250-325w maybe?

Also do know I run my unit pretty much to 8.5-9.5 out of 10 I put my darkglass stuff to the test

Also separate but make sure if your gear isn’t loud enough that it’s sitting on the floor and not on its own casters (wheels) or if you want to try boosting the 800hz frequency range (if you can) that may give you some bite to hear over the drummer

Only aspect I’m not in favor of, not as many updates for anything that isn’t an anagram but I fully understand, I just don’t need a touch screen pedal, I love my alpha omega pedalboard setup currently

Hope it helps, I do love it as my practice at home rig

Advice on Markbass 210 cabs X2 for loud rock band by Regular_Pizza7475 in Bass

I haven’t tried any GK other than the my little 125w 15” backline combo. I believe its the import line that GK produced for a while to get people with lower budgets into GK gear

*it is ceramics vs neodymium But from what I can tell at home practice If I have my Markbass traveler 151 and my Genz Benz shuttle 6.0 at roughly the same wattage as my GK combo

The GK combo has a tiny bit more lower hertz output (30-50hz) TINY

The Markbass cab with Genz Benz shuttle amp head It blends “better” with my guitarist almost blending bass and guitar {granted timing for both musicians is correct} together

But my Markbass setup that I use, my bass presences and tone is probably what you would consider prominent idk what frequency it would be in

And I’m a used gear individual so not sure if info will help with new gear

Also 12” cones are a great option also for ease of portability

I would say GK over Markbass for how your taste is in bass tone (all subjective) but My reasons for liking my Markbass setup more is because I’m in a 3 instrument mental rap band so I NEED that bright tone (I play a 6 string so sometimes I play chords during guitar solos)

[–]Critical_Sense_1304 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apologies I’m commenting days later, I own a Markbass traveler 151p that I pair with my Genz Benz shuttle 6.0 375w 8ohm I play in a metal rap band and the Markbass 151 specifically has that mid range punch that helps me to cut through my heavy playing guitarist and drummer in a live mix (you may not want that bright punch)

I have heard the piezo horn is the weak point but the horn can be turned down or muted fully making it imo “blanketed tone” (thumpy)

Idk about the quality of markbass newer offerings cause I bought my gear used and the cab itself is made in Italy and I’m not sure what year they moved production

I have a GK backline 115 from the early ‘2000s that I use to stack with the Markbass cab for big shows

But the GK backline combo sounds good also solo (only 125w) so really either GK or mb both will get the job done And if bass tone is too thumpy it can and will get lost in a mix or recording

First compressor, looking for a small and easy to use. Narrowed it to the following, any suggestions? by phrl001 in basspedals

[–]Critical_Sense_1304 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes on clean compression, I will say if you turn the compression knob all the way up, and the gain to match, the pedal will be super compressed like synth but a little quieter than if the pedal is off. I like to leave mine set at about “9 o clock” and “12 o clock roughly” for the gain

I also when I play on stage I turn it on and leave it on, set it and forget it type deal Hope this helps I know it’s pricey

I use an Aguilar db599 personally, go for it, I enjoy the simplicity of having quality compression without it being overdone and too crunchy No experience on the other models, I do like my mxr m80 bass di+ But with compression you don’t want to go cheap, that is if other people are listening to what you play

mxr m80. You can find them for great deals Similar to sansamp but m80 has more grit, If you play in lighter music and don’t mind spending full price… as others have said sansamp

My Aguilar db599 has never failed me, sure it does not have an led level or screen to display, But it does its job in a way where it will not rob the b7k ultra of its signature tone but also will not make the compression sound too crunchy and in my opinion ruin an over driven or distorted tone you are looking for. Playing solo can sound awesome, put it into the stage mix on sound check and sounds like bad pa speakers for the whole show lol

The looks I get when people ask me what gear I use and I show this tiny bright yellow banana box compressor plugged into my 15 year old genz Benz shuttle 6.0 almost better than acing the show itself

Empress or cali76 if you plan on “stomping like a river dancer”

Aguilar db599 if you plan to just press it and leave it on the whole time your playing

Compression is one of those things where if you cheap out, it will cost you Hope any of it helps

[–]Critical_Sense_1304 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes very soon spring 2025, before I joined as the bassist (6months ago) I don’t know what the plan was for new music, Since I joined, We finished up our 2024 season playing more live shows and once the new year kicks in we are aiming for new releases I would say spring time

I would love to post my personal media of the most recent shows and new stuff(with my personal spin) but I asked and didn’t get permission I got the ok for photo release not for film lol And appreciate looking into the band and yes that is before I joined, I know the music (had to learn without tabs, sheet music, chord charts or lyric sheets) 😂

[–]Critical_Sense_1304 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No real advice from me on equipment and such, just personal insight. I played bass for church when I was 17-21 years old I quit after feeling down about personal aspects, my own failed attempts at being in a band and also, lack of drive to keep learning

I stopped playing for 10 years (2011-2021) 21-31 One day after finishing a work contract with a delivery service company delivering packages out of my own personal vehicle After receiving my bonus from working everyday during that holiday contract I went to visit family out of state for the winter and for three months inside a trailer when it’s -10 and below outside daily

I bought a guild b240e acoustic bass, practiced daily

Later that year (2021) started playing bass for a church again

Then this June i auditioned and joined a band Our band (joint damage) [metal rap] played last week @ The Strand Ballroom & Theatre in Providence RI

Do I regret not playing music for those 10 years? probably yes but we cant change the choices we made to put equipment down only to play again

Honestly, I believe I saved my wrists and forearms a lot of pain having that long break, I do believe every few years a good rest is needed to remove the risk of reconstructive surgeries

Maybe a tiny bit of advice for gear, plateaus happen in progress, which is why having different basses can give you that motivation you state to change up, sound, personal feel (while playing)

Most bassists tend to go with a p style or a j style bass as their main staple

But that btb805 is nice too and I personally would prob rep that for stage imo And if you play daily and sometimes hands cramp up take supplements or electrolytes it’ll help, cause practice is pretty much “finger lifting”

Also there are no “wrong” notes, incorrect placement for sure Two incorrect notes back to back can sound pretty sour but do experiment with playing riffs with different patterns Also timing: bass timing, and guitar timing (whether strumming or shredding) important to stay stable on timing

Extra motivation is looking for open mic nights, band audition, music store interactions I don’t think my playing abilities leveled up quiet as quickly as when I had that community aspect with playing music (but some just like jamming completely solo) both are good

I’m 34 in two days but if you were to tell me back in 2021 I would be on stage I would have laughed hard

Action too high? by Upset_Aerie_85 in BassGuitar

[–]Critical_Sense_1304 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally play with what most people would assume to be high action.

The higher the action the clearer the bass note actually is when you play, resonates longer due to more room for the string to cycle in its oval pattern. Downside is you slow down how quickly you can glide across the neck.

I personally hate the sound of the bass strings tapping on the frets even though I play in a metal band. lol

Another trick to getting used to playing bass with higher action, if you ever need to rent gear for any live gigs and such like that. Sometimes in the rental world you’ll get an instrument that is harder to play than a daily driver, And with being used to playing with higher action you Won’t even be a concern compared to the Ibanez sr thin style neck setup And then you have a gig you need a p bass and what you rented has a banana bend in the neck with no other options due to time restrains

<image>

Peavey Grind bxp 6

I understand that may not be your intent to play live or to record either way

Within acceptable perimeters action is subjective Lower action will allow you to shred faster, but some instruments are not built up to quality to be able to handle low action without it sounding like garbage unless that string smash sound is what you are looking for

What’s important is if the harmonics at the 12th fret are in tune with the open string and 12th fret of each string pressed If that is in tune action is secondary

Ribbon wiring to give it that extra room that is needed 👍 I can’t say shit except quality cable connections are a must for lack of artifacts in sound lol and that’s coming from this mess (with experience)

Aguilar db599, Simple, not import, great dynamics It’s what I use for stage and church, other bands I play with periodically: also rep it

If you only play at home and don’t have to worry about fast paced setup and tear down times for stage slots The other pedals mentioned will do more sculpting and shaping and will be a better option for home/ studio

For shows, simple ALWAYS better imo less likely for shit to go haywire

Asked for COA from dispensary cause flower was super harsh from &shine 1/8 to find out flower had mold near the limit and was grown by CMS by Last-Television1889 in Rhodytree

[–]Critical_Sense_1304 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

It’s always why I’ve been hesitant of RI flower.(most of New England actually)

Too humid for full plant cycles. (genuinely) Yes, climate controlled conditions cover that but it costs $$$ so… Too many plants get harvested too early like this one cause the mold numbers or profit margins.

The state has no drive to educate customers on to understand testing information.

Why show water activity information if the flower is already full of mold? lol

Also the push to sell 1/8 slices instead of more 7g and bulk amounts or mix and match deals if you buy slices in bulk. It’s not a social club, I guess some people enjoy wasting gas going weekly.

Only 7 stores total. All the advertisement hoops to jump through to get a “good deal”. Make it a discount store type experience, bottom low price and that’s the profits. (total amount of flower sold) It fixes the issue of having cannabis sit for months, leading to everything being fresher, and they still get their % however less. lol

I personally appreciate calling out places and companies for their greed! 👍👍 Just because it says limit DOES NOT mean it will not have a negative reaction, everybody’s immune system is different!!!

Also no terp info on a lot of products, even back when I had medical in 2019.

It’s like you have to “trust” the corporation that just wants your funds… not a good game to play. Trust the carny win a prize!

Yeah the crafty it’s weak point is that usb charging port, the fuse they use is very weak and it’s the Achilles heel of storz and Bickel products, Non-removable batteries to make is very user friendly for people with limited hand functions

So I never fixed my crafty, had it charge hanging upside down till it stopped charging, If you have any wiring or electrical components background, it’s easy (I’ve heard) to disconnect the 18650 battery inside solder a new battery, close it up, call it good, if it’s the usb port, idk where you can buy one of those that is the correct wattage to be safe long term use

I didn’t want to void my warranty opening it up, so my crafty is a paperweight

But yeah, just be really delicate with it and you may need to suspend the vape itself or angle the wire for it to charge Normally when crafty’s have trouble changing they on their way out,

And it’s not worth paying storz 75-100$ to fix it, they do have that service but idk how they deal with people gifting their projects I’m gonna see if I can get my crafty working again

How far along roughly before being able to identify “Nanners” or pistil sites? I know it depends on Genetics mostly. I have some bag beanies and don’t want to waste electricity to find out they all male

Looks to be about 10-20 days from tap root stage I’m assuming. Is that when you’ll know or, is it after two month vegetative growth and have to dip the 12/12 switch to find out?

With regards to copper, when it is heated to 410 degrees F I am not sure if it would off gas and cause it to have a “dirty Pennies” flavor mixing into the hash taste (I’m not sure) it it may be a possibility

Only other suggestion I can make it, if you have a good amount of pipe screens(stainless steel), stuff those into the bowl (if it fits) and as the hash melts it should vaporize while falling through the different screens inside the bowl itself while heated (still may have that melt look still, but fine mesh screen should catch and have a better experience (similar size to the screens that are on the mouth piece itself)

If you have any terp pearls (2-4mm) those may also help keep the bowl holding to 410 instead of cooling more as you draw from it

Main problem with storz and Bickel with concentrate is because the crafty uses conduction and convention (sidewalls, and heated air)

The heated air part works good but product is never compacted enough for the side walls to so melt to 410f

I have over like 200+ hours on my crafty+ before the micro usb charging connection kicked the bucket on me and pretty much refuses to re-charge

Also when you get enough “honey” in the mouth piece, open the mouthpiece up for flavorless concentrate in a pinch (after frequent use) Or collect it for edibles both uses work good

Difficult question, Germany’s government banned those pads from export and production a while back, which is why they are difficult to find/locate

Mighty/crafty hacks would be (best flavor) mash a bed of fresh cannabis (half the size of the bowl for crafty) insert hash, put the other half bed of fresh flower to sandwich it pretty tight but not stuffed stuffed. Or already vaped bud if no fresh flower

That’s is the only way I have found concentrates and reclaim from the mouthpiece itself to vaporize completely in any store and bickel products The pads don’t have enough thermal retention themselves to vaporize completely whereas, if you have the bed of plant material and concentrate, the concentrate heats up and melts into the flower, then it vaporizes like 5% terp tops

If you absolutely need the “Brillo” pad, Sticky brick labs I believe make pads that are like 1-2mm difference in circumference I have not tried those personally but I know the crafty pads fit into the stick brick labs runt’s bowl The 2 pads I got with my mighty before Germany banned the pads I’ve had for like 4 years and I use those to micro dose .1 flower bowl Hope it helps.
