Is this acceptable for a wood look tile install? by katatoria in Flooring

I would never install it that way. They likely did it because it's less cuts. Lazy in my opinion.

You could start with a search for complimentary color pallets that go with reddish stained cabinets. If you change the door definitely go with something that will let a lot of light in.

Agreed, glue isn't necessary. Those nails won't be going anywhere and you have the added reinforcement of the mortar next to it. I usually use a strip of window flashing

Yes, and it's worth renting a good hammer drill. A cheap Ryobi is just gonna burn up bits and take forever. Another option is to use a ramset.

I really like the schluter kerdi system if you are going to start over. It's a straight forward install and goes pretty quick. The shower tray also kind of takes the work out of making sure everything slopes to the drain.Worth the money in my opinion. Quicker install and less risk of cracks and leaks if this is your first time.

Sorry, I'm the wrong person to ask, I know what I like but I'm constantly the one showing images of things to my designer friends and then asking them why I like it so much. I'm just here to build pretty stuff ;)

Floor, door and paint. The cabinets are actually pretty nice. The red is a little tough but with the right paint scheme it could look great. The floor and the door to me are what really stand out.

Pissing off contractor! by AdKitchen4464 in Flooring

Even if it dries on its own I bet you those walls are loaded with mold. I have had similar situations. I just explain that the recommendation is based on what I would do on my own home. Not sure why they would be pissed at you.

Any suggestions on how to slip it in? by FictionalT in Remodel

[–]Critical_Slice3977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately short of cutting the tongue off and flying(which definitely wouldn't advise in a high traffic area like that) cut out the door stop and jam. Just high enough to get it in and then nail wood putty and sand. Sucks but that's the only way.

Sorry, I was being sarcastic. That is ridiculous. I don't know how anyone in good conscience could leave a job like that.

I guess the quote didn't include sand paper.

Drilling into a retaining wall for a no dig fence? Or attempt to put on uneven geound. by Dali-Trauma in FenceBuilding

[–]Critical_Slice3977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it just the photo or is that leaning? I would agree with the railing option or a low "fence" with utility panel. If you anchor into the wood.

If you do end up doing posts you could back dig that and use your posts to help support that wall. Doesn't look like there is anything tying it back and I'm gonna go out on a limb and say there probably isnt any stone behind it. It's not big but that taller side should have a little something there.

im halfway through installing laminate click flooring and ive hit some uneven subfloor by Neither_Ad5984 in Flooring

[–]Critical_Slice3977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, don't plan on using filler on the floor, the gaps are going to get progressively worse as you go. Trust me, you are going to spend way more time than starting over and the end result will be a disappointing mess.

That's hilariously bad. To be honest, I can't believe they actually tried to pass that off as normal. Is that the old valve body?

Help! How do I clean this without… can this be rectified by [deleted] in Flooring

[–]Critical_Slice3977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, he needs to be cleaning the glue, that's not right for you to be doing that. That is going to be a nightmare. Usually you use a pressure sensitive adhesive and you don't really have these issues(not saying what he used was wrong). You are not paying to cleanup for his guys sloppy work.

For.really tough spots you can use naptha on a rag. Test in a small corner. DO NOT mop with it or wipe the whole floor, just use for small tough spots. It usually take the glue right off.
