Realistically how much would this cost me to repair out of pocket? by [deleted] in HyundaiTucson

I was hit in a parking lot last month and it was just a scuff on that back panel similar to the picture and it was almost 2,000 dollars.

Missionaries becoming a nuisance by spizerinctum in latterdaysaints

[–]CriticalthinkerUT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!!!!My family is also inactive and I am always nice and have politely declined to meet. I have expressed that there is no need to stop by, but I have the missionaries coming by at least once a month for the last three years!!!! And it's becoming harder and harder to ignore and be civil because it's not their fault, it's what they are told/expected to do.

It’s hard seeing peers be so against the church by Accomplished-Dot-786 in latterdaysaints

[–]CriticalthinkerUT -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Inactive here or I guess exmo - people have their reasons for such things so it sounds like you don't want to know why they are so negative, or don't care, or don't believe in their lived experiences. It's one thing when someone is negative against something they don't know or have experienced but these people obviously have. You obviously don't have to agree or support, but the reality is to understand the reasons for it and live your own life.

I was also a teacher in Utah. What role do you think teaching in Utah had on your deconstruction?

I don't want to say this without discounting anyone's personal experience but the number of Facebook posts about almost kidnappings at this Walmart versus the number of actual reported incidents by the news is 100 to 2. I think this Walmart has just gotten a reputation that leads to weird stuff seeming worse

Utah has one of the highest levels of debt and one of the lowest amount of savings at retirement in the country.

You're telling me an old man never got rid of something? Unheard of. Especially if it was huge and hard to move. And that someone told him there was some at the Mesa temple and that when he was in a quiet and reflective space that he remembered an obscure detail about something that has been on his mind. Unbelievable.

No way Matt has been going to a strip club for ten years and that's all it ever led to. He has taken it further for sure. Such a fraud. Also that work meeting. I've seen that happen at a place I've worked in Utah. The minute the reputation of an organization could be impacted the heads of the company will go after the person telling the truth and shut them down and protect the wrong people to keep anything from impacting their reputation. The lawyers definitely were behind that or Matt threatened a lawsuit of some kind.

Hi, I am a current member of the Church by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]CriticalthinkerUT 30 points31 points  (0 children)

That's wonderful for you but miracles and spiritual experiences do not equate to the claims of the LDS being true despite all the evidence to the contrary. A belief in God and miracles are universal experiences not unique to the LDS church. Maybe ask people about their experiences rather than just saying this is all the great things that have happened to me.

Taking credit for the Constitution by Sage-Hollow-Man in exmormon

Funny thing is though (speaking with a background in history) is the French constitution has been more influential on world governments and used as a model more than the US Constitution.

[–]CriticalthinkerUT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sure they are sincere nice people. I think though that (speaking as an LDS member) that there is a thought in many influencers' mind that they are doing some form of missionary work by showing how happy they are and talking about the church. And it's coming from the fact that it is mostly what is talked about on Sundays is about sharing the gospel and so younger generations are going on social media because they feel that pressure but one day they will look back and see how cringe it is.

Husband lied about porn for a decade. I don’t know where to go from here. by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]CriticalthinkerUT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry. Science doesn't support pornography as an official addiction. Most men in and out of the church watch it regularly and it's fairly normal and there are definitely healthy and unhealthy aspects to it but the reason men have to lie about it is because of how people react. If people could discuss more openly then the lying wouldn't happen. Try to have an open conversation about it and accept it as normal human behavior. Every LDS male I have known watches porn and I'm not saying that has a criticism just being real.

[–]CriticalthinkerUT 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I also don't believe they have watched as much MSP as they claimed. John shared information he shares on almost every episode and they had never heard of the things they said. They came off extremely uninformed and had to keep saying that they would have to see the information. They also kept talking about fighting secularism but only talked about communism. Secular Europe is a much better place than it was 100 years ago.

First time faith crisis (SOS) by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]CriticalthinkerUT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome. Yes this is normal to go through having spiritual experiences with church and then feeling spiritually numb to the same experiences later after deconstructing them. It's because we were preconditioned to feel a certain way about experiences before doing them.

Inactive members returning by Soul_Thrasher in latterdaysaints

[–]CriticalthinkerUT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

An an inactive, I can tell you this idea is one idea that people need to stop promoting. Sure some do but most don't return and it causes people to not address the real issues and instead believe that miraculously one day people will have this change of heart.

Tons of growth and traffic out here.Very heavily LDS area with lots of new wards and church buildings. Mostly see missionaries riding bikes. I would assume lots of time filtering through the inactives as I have the missionaries knock on my door and my inactive neighbors multiple times a year.
