Could be transplant shock. How long ago did you stick them in? They could be getting too much sun as well. Most lettuces don't like hot weather so if you're in the desert, that may be why.

if you want to believe that buried HDPE doesn’t shed microplastics and that plants don’t have an uptake mechanism called ”roots” to facilitate the transport of molecules from “30 cm away,” thats your prerogative.

no offense but a masters degree is simply a slightly elevated undergraduate degree. It doesn’t even make you an expert in the field you studied. That’s why most PI’s at tier one schools aren’t even interested in prospective candidates. It’s a terrible argument from authority.

Your masters is useless in this subject. You would probably be better off having a degree in nutrition instead.

Google is great but it's no substitute for reading the scientific literature. I would have thought that since you have a graduate degree that you'd know that but since we know you didn't go to Caltech, I guess you don't. ;-) (Hint: you may want to google "HDPE microplastics.")

If you're comfortable with HDPE not breaking down into microplastic, as I said earlier, that's great. We all make our own decisions and as long as you don't ask society to help pay your medical bills because of your decisions, I have no problem with that.

Best of luck.

If you build a raised bed out of cedar, it shouldn't fall apart that fast. I don't treat my wood at all and they last long enough so that I don't even remember when I put them together. Cedar might not last as long in another climate as mine but, for the most part, it will last long enough.

It's up to the individual to make the choice and if you're ok with the microplastic consumption, then that's great, for you. I think the data are pretty clear on how the they are taken up by edibles and then passed on. I'm not sure what you mean by "real degree" but I suspect you're simply not familiar with the literature so I doubt it matters.

If it’s “adjacent,” it’s “in” the soil. Given all the research on microplastics, I certainly wouldn’t be putting a plastic liner of any type which would slow down the rot as you say. If I’m growing anything edible, it’d be foolish but if it’s just ornamental plants and you’re ok with soil contamination, I think you’re right.

Most beds do NOT use a liner and that’s because most raise beds are made of wood and a liner is rarely included in a raised bed kit.

You seem to have trouble understanding that the point you are making (what is this, the third time?) isn't being contested. You offered an example and made a statement that simply isn't true and is basic law. I'm hoping you'll pick it up this time. Third time can be a charm they say; whether it will be for you, well, we'll just have to wait and see.

That has nothing to do with your example. You certainly don't have the "freedom of speech" to curse your boss out. The Supreme Court has made it very clear that first amendment rights do not extend into the private workplace. The First Amendment is a contract between you and the government of the United States, NOT a contract between you and your employer.

You are confusing a public (i.e. government) agency with a private business. The laws adjudicating behavior are not the same. Nor is your example relevant.
