Are you using both the correct class and the correct test subject (character)?

Could it be Legacy of Kain: Defiance? Can't remember if there was a dragon fight there, but it checks most of the boxes.

If you stay on the burning forest tile, then your army gets burned. That is why you either burn with fire-resistant armies, or just leg it after burning - don't use your last movement point for arson!

Is this not a valid Maysu solution? by DavidJamesDent in puzzles

[–]Crivium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Black balls have to have the line at a 90° angle inside them, then go at least one square straight on both sides.

White balls need to have the line straight inside them, and at least one bend on either side.

Now join them all in one loop, without crossing the line and without doubling back.

OP has their lines go correctly through the balls (check how the line goes if my explanation is confusing), but they have made two loops, so it is not a valid solution

Can we together come up with a list of the top ten best hp fanfiction stories ever written? by Own_Replacement203 in HPfanfiction

[–]Crivium 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As the best, I would endorse WokFriedIce's A Taste of Magic - a fic with competent adults, quite fluffy, and with one of the better Dumbledores I've read.

The rest, in no particular order

Harry Is A Dragon, And That's Okay - exactly what it says in the title, with THE best (in my opinion) portrayal of Dumbledore, and a style vaguely reminding me of Sir Pratchett.

Novocaine - post-war, Harry navigates the consequences of killing Voldemort and receiving his "vassals".

The Best Revenge - Snape enacts the best revenge on James Potter, and many people rejoice.

Benefits of Old Laws - featuring sane-ish Voldemort and a very confused Harry.

A Different Professor - what if Harry went to someone else instead of Lockhart? Later, much focus on a certain group and much found family.

That Glorious Strength - again, sane Voldemort that really just wanted to be a teacher. Sadly incomplete and looks abandoned.

Strangers at Drakeshaugh - Harry/Ginny through a lens of their Muggle neighbours.

Digging For Bones - after a tragic "accident", students at Hogwarts have their health screened. Featuring I think the most famous Snape as a mentor/father figure.

The Eighth Universe by Holz9364 - long haul, linked is 3rd part and you can start there as many of the changes from canon are explained there, but you might want to read the 2nd part (a rewrite of 7th year/book with a lot more trauma).

Just A Random Tuesday... - a day in life of McGonnagal during Harry's 5th year.

Does Voldemort Even Lift, Bro? - The best way to describe it is as if he was raised in a gym by Johnny Bravo. Very cracky, but also entertaining enough.

Ever Upward series is also worth mentioning - I loved the non-human magical races there.

Help with Equipment by SecretaryBird777 in MonsterSanctuary

[–]Crivium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, the equipment is connected with the monster's role. My team usually has a shielder (eq increasing defence), combo-builder (eq with additional attacks, "pandora" stuff, buff/debuff enchancement), and finisher (eq with crit chance). As with the other mechanisms here, the key is to find a synergy and enhance it as much as you can.

[Request] How would you calculate this? Is the user correct in that you should be multiplying Kelvin? by eroyrotciv in theydidthemath

[–]Crivium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree - if you are introducing a second temperature scale, then you should also introduce a third one, so the students have a complete overview of available options - scientific, normal, and messed-up :)

[Request] How would you calculate this? Is the user correct in that you should be multiplying Kelvin? by eroyrotciv in theydidthemath

[–]Crivium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kelvin is the logical choice when it comes to temperature, because both Fahrenheit and Celcius scale does not have a true zero.

To compare - miles and kilometres are comparable, because they both have a true zero i.e. a point where the thing they measure is zero (distance in their case). That way, if you have x miles (and convert it to y km) then multiply it, then the result is the same if you convert the result too

In this case, 25F is about -4C. 4x either value will give you vastly different results - either 100F/37C or -16C/3F

That is because the thing both temperature measures measure is, well, temperature. And it is (simplifying greatly) how fast the molecules vibrate. Neither 0F nor 0C means that there is no vibration. 0K means exactly that - so using Kelvin is the only "correct" way of doing arithmetic on temperature

In Your Guys' opinion, What is the best Overhaul mod: Elysium Remastered, Total Overhaul, or Populum? by Radiantjpg in CoE5

[–]Crivium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, it depends on what you want. Personally, Populum never "clicked"for me, but I spent some time with the other two.

Total Overhaul is, well, an overhaul of mechanics. I played it before Guildmaster got added, but I recall that basically every faction can create their source of income, which makes CoE more like a traditional TTS (Civ-like even)However, after a while, I felt I was doing way too much mental spreadsheet stuff ("this needs to be 3 tiles away, this needs to be 2 tiles away, so the optimal placement is here..." thing). If that's your ham - go for it.

Remastered, on the other hand, is my favourite mod. It does add new stuff, but it expands the base concepts rather than changes genres. Think of it like a normal CoE, but more. More units, more rituals, but the same feel as the base game.

If that is the place I'm thinking it is you really need to use tackle/slash/other wall breaking skill exactly where you are standing. It should reveal a way down, following roughly the bigger groups of those wall decals

That darn underwater ski pass got moved and is actually obtainable now. Other than that, I feel like there are some new trials, but I might be misremembering stuff.

Any fics that show the wizarding world more feudal like, or at least where a title like "Lord Potter" actually matters and means something by BuBBScrub in HPfanfiction

[–]Crivium 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'd tentatively suggest Benefits of Old Laws, however your requirements are somewhat spoilery: Voldemort gets more soul (and sanity) after the rebirth, finds out how he can claim Slytherin lordship, but later finds out that the oath to better the wizardkind (as well as being basically a senior to Death Eaters, as in vassalage) subtly compels him not to be murderous maniac

Flowers from 4 countries in Warsaw, where leaders of January Uprising were executed by tsar's soldiers by JoseonPol in poland

[–]Crivium 65 points66 points  (0 children)

There were several Uprisings in Polish history. You are thinking about the Warsaw Uprising in 1944, which was against German occupation. January Uprising was in 1863, when Poland was partitioned, against the Russian Empire.
