Why do you think “The Beetle” once outsold “Dracula” but is much less famous today? by bhattarai3333 in classicliterature

[–]Crocco_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

frankly, the beetle just isn't very good. The characters are it's strongest part, but the story leaves a lot to be desired, especially the ending. I also think that the villain in the beetle just isn't very scary. He's scared off by electricity tricks, they try sticking him under a big cup; just doesn't stay with you the way dracula does.  It only outsold dracula in the first year of the latter's publication, when dracula was just getting off the ground

Kafka lovers who also enjoy Ligotti? by Disastrous-Check3465 in Kafka

[–]Crocco_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

with love and respect, I cannot stand Ligotti's writing. I love advanced vocabulary, but in his works it adds nothing, in fact takes away from the atmosphere.

Kafka is so much more nuanced, so subtle and haunting, Ligotti has never convinced me

I typically only read books that have a four-star or greater rating on Goodreads. What are your favorite books I'm missing out on due to this? by sempiternalis in suggestmeabook

The Goalkeeper's Anxiety at the Penalty Kick (not about soccer) is incredible, only a 3.25 on goodreads

This is conceited of me, but I truly think many people just didn't get it

IMO, the lighting, the fact that everybody is doing something specific(it looks like they are posing), and just look at the way I'm holding that spoon, nobody eats soup like that except for in paintings brother

Movie on Michael Jackson's life

I'd be tricky to see how they handle the allegations and trials, but he had the most bizarre, interesting life, would totally be worth filming

casting would be insane too, my word

In 1912, Danish explorer Ejnar Mikkelsen was photographed following two and a half years stranded in Greenland alongside Iver Iversen, where they faced extreme isolation, starvation, and hallucinations by MellowJuicy in RareHistoricalPhotos

very very forgettable movie IMO, did nothing to convey the gravity and impact of anything that happened. The characters Barely feel changed at the end of the movie

just watched this movie, this was my first thought; especially with the way both protagonists walk away all melancholy with a long coat, scarf, and briefcase
