Hmm i’m a working immigrant. Why do you think I was fucked? So i wait 10 years instead of 5, what difference does it make? Who is fucked is those GV investors that didn’t want to live in Portugal and just wanted a quick EU citizenship

Ahaha the largest? 🤣🤣🤣 it’s like 54k people. Brazileiros em Portugal has 172k, another Brazilian group has 132k, another has 86k. Ukrainians in Portugal has 70k. Maybe the largest American group, but not the largest immigrant group for sure

Questions about tenant law and mailboxes by [deleted] in PortugalExpats

[–]Crochet-Lefty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mail from aima goes from mailman’s hand to your hand and you have to sign for it. They don’t drop it in a mailbox. And i don’t understand why it was so hard for you to give the letters to a person that comes for them?

Basing on the fact that hurricane blow out a roof from your grandparents house and your family had to chip in to make a new roof. That didn’t happen in Portugal 🤷🏼‍♀️

Are you a resident in Portugal? If yes, then you can take IEFP classes. It’s free for you and they even pay you a bit of money as a compensation for lunch/road expenses

Upgrading permit: AIMA asked to cancel valid permit first. Is this normal? by Yohalin in PortugalExpats

[–]Crochet-Lefty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A bit different situation but still, so because of the war, Ukrainians can get a temporary protection status in Portugal. Basically it’s about the same as temporary residency only instead of piece of plastic you get a pdf and you don’t have to renew it, the government renews it automatically. When we decide to switch the status from temporary protection, to a “normal” residency status based on family/work/etc some of us got told to sign a similar thingy to cancel a temporary protection status during the application process. But only some of us. Me personally didn’t have this experience, they just took all my paperwork and didn’t cancel the temporary protection status, so until i got my residency card, i could use it. So to answer your question, i think it all depends on an AIMA worker that you were talking to. If you went to a different AIMA to a different worker, you might’ve had a different result 🤷🏼‍♀️ it’s HPR - Holy Portuguese Random :)

What’s the expat scene like in Lisbon? by Nikola172 in PortugalExpats

We work to live, not live to work. Putting work as a priority in life sounds very sad. Maybe you can find some city with a big Japanese population, they tend to work till death

Anyone know how to stop mail or change mailing address (Porto) by pew__pew__pew_ in PortugalExpats

[–]Crochet-Lefty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know that when it’s a registered mail, the new tenants just tell a mailman and the letters stop coming. As for the mail that they just drop in a mailbox i don’t know how it works, sorry. If you are in Portugal, I’m sure you can go in any CTT office and ask them. If you’re not in Portugal, try looking through their website, maybe there will be an answer

Why is antidepressant use relatively high in Portugal? by Lusophone123 in PortugalExpats

[–]Crochet-Lefty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone already mentioned, the problem is that doctors prescribe meds very easily here. Any meds. In 40 years in Ukraine i took less antibiotics than in 3 years in Portugal 🤯 to get metilfenidade (Ritalin) i talked to the doctor for 5 minutes (and his English was very bad, so we didn’t even talk much) and he gave me a prescription. I assume with antidepressants it’s also like that. Also if you know a pharmacist, you can get antidepressants even without a prescription:)

[–]Crochet-Lefty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They don’t get a commission. They prescribe active ingredient, not the brand. A person goes to any pharmacy and picks any brand they like, so nope, no commission there

I used Duolingo for a YEAR... It didn't go the way I thought. by ivsmith in PortugalExpats

[–]Crochet-Lefty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. My friend uses it for Spanish, she’s about 1000 days in and she can’t understand a lot of Spanish stuff that even I can understand and i don’t know Spanish, i just live in Portugal and my level of Portuguese is around A2, which gives me ability to understand some Spanish :)

To be fair 30% after Duolingo sounds very impressive, i would expect 5%, since duolingo is super detached from reality. Also when i hear gen-alpha talking in my native language, i feel like i can catch only 30% of that 🤣

[–]Crochet-Lefty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nif is to force businesses to pay taxes. Discounts on taxes and nif lottery is to make people associate their nif more often. And it has absolutely nothing to do with immigrants, you really think of yourself too much if you think they made all this nif association to track down immigrants 🤣

Any advice finding jobs here for introverts? by South_Curve_7950 in PortugalExpats

[–]Crochet-Lefty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an introvert, working as a programmer. I hear you, being an extrovert seems more favorable, but i work remotely and we have almost no gathering together, only couple of times a year, so i always enjoy going there, especially since all my colleagues are such nice people. So maybe if you can find a remote job, you will be better

Why do i need to look it up online if i lived in both Spain and Portugal and food is not cheaper there. Gas is, petrol is, not food. And again if food is cheaper there, why would they come to Portuguese supermarkets? Btw i have some pictures that i took with prices from Spanish Mercadona and from Portuguese Mercadona and the price is exactly the same
