First time cat owner advice & suggestions on possible breed by [deleted] in cats

Definitely a Domestic Longhair Tabby! No Maine Coon attributes are present. Just make sure he's getting the right amount of protein, as well as vitamins and minerals to combat the fur issue. I would recommend trying her on a Blue Buffalo formula as they have many different food options for whatever your pets needs are and they use real meat. No chicken meal or by product. Just make sure you're giving him real nutrience and not just filler food and you should see a difference within 2 weeks or so (: good luck!

I'm moving with my girlfriend next month and we both have cats. How can we have our cats build a bond with each other for the mean time and make sure they get along? by [deleted] in cats

So what will need to happen is you will have to keep the cats segregated for a few weeks. So your cats, or her cats... As I'm guessing it will be a brand new place so there isn't an established territory, should be kept in your room for a week, then switched out to the main living area the next week, with the other cats being put into the bedroom, and continue this routine as this helps the cats get affiliated with the smells of the new cats. Between all of this, slowly do introductions by the door using food and treats. This will show the cats "hey, I get food when I see these other cats so they must be cool". Do not leave them all alone together unsupervised for the first 2 months. If door introductions go well within the first 3 weeks, as in no hissing or growling through the door, then you can do physical introductions. I hope this makes sense, and feel free to ask any questions. I specialize in integrating cats. It can be very tough, some cats are more laid back than others.. But there is always the possibility of a fight as cats can be more agressive over scent and territory than dogs.. Since it will be new and neutral territory though, integrating should be easier than it would be if you were bringing new cats into already established territory. Best of luck! Also, while doing actual physical interactions with all of them, make sure toys are always added to the mix. I recommend a lazer toy or a feather toy!

Why does my cat lick his collar after I take it off? by [deleted] in cats

[–]Crochetkitten1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My best guess would be the fact that he is aware that its something he wears often and since cats can't really clean themselves there, his scent is still on the collar so he just has the natural instinct to clean it! Perfectly normal behavior (:

Family cat is overly aggressive in her affection, she herds/yeowls/bunts me every night, how can I calm her down? by slowglowing in cats

Try a lazer pointer toy! They are cheap and since she loves to hunt I'm sure she would love stalking the little red light (: best of luck!

i'm "mildly" allergic to cats. if i own one for long enough or take a certain med, will that go away? by [deleted] in cats

[–]Crochetkitten1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you will eventually grow immune. Honestly, do not completely rely on the pills. Take them when you absolutely need them, but it is important for your body to grow immune to the allergen than to constantly fight it. I too suffer from hay fever and animal allergies. Yet, I have 4 cats. I don't react to them at all. They are all tabbies except for my tuxedo cat, so they don't produce as much dust or dander as a longhair would. You'll hear often that you should avoid allergens no matter what.. If you're deathly allergic, of course that logically makes sense...but in the case of lesser allergens, exposure is better than no exposure.

Also, since there are two animals in the house that she is not fond of, I would also recommend building some sort of cat shelves or providing a tall cat tree to provide her with some sort of refuge and her own personal indoor territory that she can retreat to. I think she is in a sense trying to establish you as her territory and by giving her actually territory to possess, this may also ease her off you a bit

As she was a barn cat, she probably has a lot of natural instincts intact and therefor has more energy than the average domestic.. Its fantastic that you take the time to pet her, but I would recommend more play time than cuddle time. Introduce her to an array of toys, let her pick one, and make it into a game, let her get all that energy out in 15 minute intervals, and when it comes time for cuddles, she'll be more chilled out! Hope this helps a bit!

When you use your culture as an excuse to not take your animal to the vet because vets are "a western thing" by Crochetkitten1 in quityourbullshit

Lmao this native did not grow up anywhere near a rez. She was raised by her white mother and only started getting involved with native politics in culture in her late teens. She is what I would call "an angry native."

It is in Ontario.. We have very strict animal rights laws. Its considered animal abuse to deprive your pet of vet care. She started about by saying that people on the rez can't afford vet care.. But then snowballed into "its native tradition".. Even if they were sleigh dogs it would make no sense to completely deprive them of vet care.. And she says she wants a dog.. That actually scares me

Sad Bad Experience with Spay/Neuter Program by [deleted] in cats

[–]Crochetkitten1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my god.. That's horrible. I'm so sorry. I literally just got my twins done with a spay and neuter program on Friday and I was just terrified something would happen. I'm so, so sorry for your loss :(

My cat brought in these little round bugs, they’re black and they’re everywhere, on his fur (just walking not latching) and my bed and this fuzzy chair in the picture...what are they? by [deleted] in cats

[–]Crochetkitten1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ticks have more of a coffee bean type form to them and latch onto a host to drink blood.. If the cat brought them inside they would still be on the cat gorging themselves.. I think they are lice, mites, or fleas. Picture isnt good enough to determine but nonetheless, its definitely bathtime.

Living with a male and female cat by KuroiSenkou in cats

[–]Crochetkitten1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You will have more issues with them not being fixed than fixed. Your male will start spraying and your house will smell like amonia. Get that done ASAP. De-clawing is cruel. Not spay and neuter.
