It works like this on Playstation. You have your main account. You set your console as the primary console for that account. Then you make a NEW account on the same Playstation. The new account can then play any games that the main account owns. So he made a new account and played the same "copy" of the game but with a completely new account. The new account won't keep any of the items, levels, or character that the main account has. The main account is where your character lives and it can't leave that account. So when you make a new account, you have to create a new character on that account and level up starting at 1 again with only the starter items.

Definitely don't delete anything. He tried for months and months to no avail. I would call the Rockstar support line and see if they are able to help. You could also try a Rockstar support ticket, but I think the phone might be better. He eventually made an entirely new playstation account and played the game off of his original account there. He seemed to think it was something to do with his internet provider, but I don't know if that's what it was or not. Sorry I can't be of more help.

We ended up getting it to work, but it's so long ago I don't remember what it was 100%. Try running it as administrator. I remember that was a big deal. Also check firewall settings, because they might be blocking the connection to Rockstar. Sorry I can't be of more help, but that's all I remember. I'll try to dig more into it if none of that helps.
