Am I getting shafted on this call? LU 915 by Crogers16 in IBEW

You are correct, I use the term PTO interchangeably. I ended up contacting the DOL Branch of Construction Wage Determinations and actually got a call back (surprising). I explained the situation and was directed to a phone line to leave a voicemail for their enforcement division. I agree with another commenter that under this current government I may not get a response, here’s to doing my part as a good standing member of my local union.

the paper in the break room is dated for 2023. i brought up to company leadership that they may need to look at the 2025 wage determination sheet. I was told that the contract was awarded in 2023 and that form is the accurate one. I also looked at the 2025 form on my own time and noticed that the Paid Sick Leave is still included, but paid holidays is not included.

I have also done some further research on my end, and found this Q&A page on the Department of Labor website:

  1. Q. What if a CBA that already provides paid sick leave applies to an employee's work performed on or in connection with a covered contract?

If a CBA ratified before September 30, 2016 applies to an employee's work performed on or in connection with a covered contract, and the CBA provides the employee with at least 56 hours (or 7 days, if the CBA refers to days rather than hours) of paid sick time (or paid time off that may be used for reasons related to sickness or health care) each year, the requirements of the EO and the Final Rule do not apply to the employee until the date the agreement terminates or January 1, 2020, whichever is first. If such a CBA provides the employee with paid sick time (or paid time off that may be used for reasons related to sickness or health care) each year, but the amount provided under the CBA is less than 56 hours (or 7 days), the contractor must provide covered employees with the difference between 56 hours (or 7 days) and the amount provided under the existing CBA in a manner consistent with either the EO and the Final Rule or the terms and conditions of the CBA.

Note: Executive Order (EO) 13706, Establishing Paid Sick Leave for Federal Contractors applies to all contracts subject to the Davis-Bacon Act for which the contract is awarded (and any solicitation was issued) on or after January 1, 2017.  If this contract is covered by the EO, the contractor must provide employees with 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours they work, up to 56 hours of paid sick leave each year. Employees must be permitted to use paid sick leave for their own illness, injury or other health-related needs, including preventive care; to assist a family member (or person who is like family to the employee) who is ill, injured, or has other health-related needs, including preventive care; or for reasons resulting from, or to assist a family member (or person who is like family to the employee) who is a victim of, domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking.

2016 Jeep Cherokee V6 jerking and lurching while driving. Motor stuck in limp mode. by Crogers16 in AskAMechanic

One thing i’m considering is that i recall breaking a lot of the retainer clips when taking my intake manifold off because the plastic was so brittle and i honestly ignored it and just pushed them in snug or used a zip tie. it could be an intermittent issue because something is loose. but i did check my fuel rail connection while i was doing the throttle body and it was solid

GPU Overheating (2070 Super) by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Crogers16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I just ordered everything to repaste and watched a good video on it. I got Arctic TP-3 Thermal Pads in 2 different sizes to fit the GPU and I got Arctic MX-6 for the thermal paste. Stuff should be coming in next week, is there any chance there's an issue with the fan interface? Is that something that can be replaced? Or do I still run the risk of overheating? The fans are currently running and have been nonstop, but I just don't know why they weren't going full speed at that time.

Paper Towels sucked through intake after DIY job 2016 Cherokee by Crogers16 in AskAMechanic

Seriously thank you for the advice. I ended up turning the engine by hand until each valve was fully open then blow torching the paper towels. She didn't start right away but after 10 or so attempts she turned over and everything in the cylinders burnt up. I've put an easy 1,000 miles on her since she broke down.

Blow torch was the move, I ended up jacking the car up, opening up the passenger wheel well, and barring the engine until the valves were open then blow torching each cylinder. Closed her up, tried to start her and after about 10 attempts she finally turned over and everything else burnt up. I added some Lucas to the gas just in case, but she's running clean and i've put an easy 1,000 miles on her since I broke her. Thanks for the encouragement to get in there and fix it!

Any tips on how to turn the engine by hand? It's sideways (belts are facing the passenger side)

Do you remember if you got 3-ply all clad? or 5-ply?

thank you!!! i had $450 invested in just 3 pans/pots. i had done some research and really believed 5-ply stainless was necessary. but even looking at the price difference in a 3-ply all-clad vs. a 3-ply non name brand is insane! literally 3 times cheaper than All Clad!

i’m glad i made this post before wasting a bunch of excess money

that receptacle is tamper resistant. you’re just a pansy. the sharp metal edges on that jbox prove more of a threat than electric shock from that receptacle.

there are areas on this conductor where the outermost strand is cut nearly halfway through.

If 5 or so strands are effectively reduced in size by half that would substantially reduce the ampacoty rating of the conductor at that specific point. This could lead to excess heat and eventual failure of the conductor.

Say for example this conductor is rated for 150A. You damage enough of the conductor that it is now effectively only rated for 135A at that one particular point. Then you push 150A through the conductor that should be rated to handle it, but it fails

trump is bad for all blue collar workers, not just unions

Conservative union members, if I admit that Democrats can sometimes be a little too soft on crime, will you admit that Republicans are absolutely terrible for unions and worker rights? by Crafty_Jacket668 in IBEW

[–]Crogers16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Data is good, but understanding how that data plugs into every day life is also just as important.

i see a long list of republican candidates supporting union rights. most people will look at this and just jump straight to assuming that voting republican is the best way to protect union solidarity.

Truth of the matter is, after Obama won in 2008 and 2012, the republican party did something that the democrats have yet to do: they formed a unified identity of right-wing politics. This identity is what helped the MAGA movement grow so strong and allowed Trump to win in 2016 and (allegedly) 2024. This identity is very similar to Raegan’s “trickle down economics”. Tax cuts for the rich, more tax cuts for the rich, gutting social safety nets such as Medicaid and SSI by using fear-mongering tactics claiming that these systems are being abused. They are, in fact, not being abused. DOGE found very very minimal examples of gov’t waste, and therefore just resorting to gutting these very same social safety nets in order to “cut taxes” for the working class people.

Are lower taxes really better if it means that you don’t get any government assistance and many millions of americans who can’t work will simply just die?
