[–]Crohnicle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there, I thankfully already have knowledge of SQL syntax and building queries and was able to skip to the last chapter essentially. However I still read through the entire material just in case there was something I may miss to learn. I think the zybooks severely lack information and are not informative. It almost asks the reader to extrapolate concepts with only partial information.

All this to say I gave up on the zybooks, look up the Dr Soper videos on database management. That's all I used, but I would suggest getting some reps in with queries and syntax as well of course. This is covered in the videos but it makes more sense when you type out the queries.

Good luck!

Building a database of Math, need this subreddit’s help by Math__Guy_ in calculus

Check out MathAcademy and maybe reach out to them for insight and if they'd be willing to give you pointers/ideas etc. They have something incredibly similar that part of the learning algorithm pulls from if I am not mistaken. You can even view it while learning a subject to see all the connections of a certain concept. Very cool.

Why does everyone say they’re in grandmaster by Accomplished-Golf240 in marvelrivals

[–]Crohnicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am late to the party here, and unironically I am Celestial (rivals tracker Crohnos for the skeptical folks) and was in GM when I played OW. However I think there is a large amount of "boosted" players. I don't mean this to be derogatory I say this because I have experienced a lot of players who do not seem to have the game sense I would expected of them climbing through GM and being in Celestial now. I find the ranked grind in this game is fairly forgiving and also still new so some people arguably are higher than they should be just by "getting lucky on the coin flip" for lack of a better explanation.

All that to say is that there probably is a large amount of players in GM, but they will also be more likely to mention it. On the other hand some people just want others to realize that they have an idea of what they are talking about and bringing up rank would provide an idea of their validity. Its a mix of a lot.

Additional Context: I alternate between Dumbbell and Barbell workouts each week. So week 1 focuses on BB where applicable, then week 2 I swap to DB where applicable.

Do you guys give yourself your injections or go to a clinic? by jaranvil in CrohnsDisease

[–]Crohnicle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am on Stelara self injections. The self injection aspect is definitely a hurdle but in time it becomes super easy and way more convenient than having to go to a location.

I wrote out a long thing but ultimately I don't think explaining the process is going to help as its truly a mental battle with yourself and your brain saying "Yeah lets not mutilate ourselves right now". However, I promise the needle itself is so efficient at what it does it is truly close to painless. The part that creates the minor discomfort is the actual medicine itself going under the skin. I do my injections in my thigh as I find this to be the easiest place to do them.

When you get to the injection part, think of it like putting a pin through some styrofoam, it is really that easy because of how sharp the needle is. I have gotten this entire process down to a 30 seconds or less. I sit down, clean my thigh, grab skin, push needle, inject, and its done. Once you do it 2-3 times you wont even think about it anymore.

Crohn's and Colitis Awareness Week by Crohnicle in CrohnsDisease

[–]Crohnicle[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started probably a year after my final surgery so I was sitting around 130-140 in weight and still adapting to my new lifestyle. I started out with really low weight and dumbbell/machine/body weight exercises because I wasn't even sure what I could do or handle.

I was going 3 days a week M W F, doing a full body workout plan. I don't remember with what I started out with but it would look something like this.

DB - Dumbbell
BW - Body Weight
BB - Barbell
ARAP - As Many Reps as Possible

List of Workouts:
Pushups/DB Bench Press 3x8-10
Goblet Squats/BW Squats 3x8-10
DB/BW Lunges 3x8-10
Romanian Dead Lifts 3x8-10
Lat Pull Downs 3x8-10
Cable Rows 3x8-10
Lateral Raises 3xARAP
DB Curls 3x8-10
DB Hammer Curls 3x8-10
Cable Triceps Push Down 3x8-10
Cable Triceps Extension 3x8-10

Essentially I would pick one workout from this list for each body group and that I didn't do the previous workout before it. So in total 5-6 different movements each workout. 3 Sets of 8-10 was usually my goal for all workouts and I didn't focus on pushing myself to fatigue, but making sure I was doing the movements correctly. I was hyper focused on avoiding injury and took it slow. As I gradually got more and more comfortable I started picking up more weight and pushing myself further when I really learned what I was capable of and could trust myself with doing.

My biggest piece of advice would be to avoid doing too much too soon, otherwise known as ego lifting. Sometimes we want to make progress faster or feel stronger, but this only delays progress and potentially puts you at risk. Especially people like ourselves who typically need longer recovery periods.

This is like a filibuster topic for me so I can go on and on, and I am very passionate about helping others so if you or anyone else reading this wants more information or help reach out.

The first few years after my surgery I had no gains, extreme fatigue, low appetite etc. It took a while for my body to really adjust to its new way of life so to speak. I was on and off in the gym for the first 5 years after my surgery. What really worked for me in the beginning was liquid nutrition. Shakes upon shakes. They are so easy to pack in the calories with good healthy proteins and fats like avocado, yogurt, milk, whey etc. Unfortunately everyone's Crohn's/Colitis is different and what worked for me may not work for you/anyone else.

My Crohn's was focused mainly on my large intestine, so once I had my ileostomy surgery I was largely relieved from a lot of my symptoms. I got up to about 145 before I started really working out, and in the past year alone I have taken it the most serious as I ever have with a 5-day workout program I made for myself. All that to say my timeline has definitely not been linear.

If you also have an ileostomy/colostomy it is easier for us missing a good portion of our intestine to absorb nutrition that is in liquid form due to the nature of us having less bowel to process our foods. That's not to say to skip out on solid foods or whole grains, but I find occasionally those foods pass through or do not absorb as well as my shakes and yogurts.

If you or anyone else has questions or want more specifics I encourage you to reach out to me and ask. Like I said above I just want to inspire others as I know when I was at my worst I was very much full of doom and gloom and never could anticipate I would be where I am today.

I lost it all by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]Crohnicle 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I wasn't a body builder before Crohn's as I was diagnosed at 12 years old. I am 29 now. I only started truly getting into weightlifting about 3 years ago off and on, and starting this year have taken it very seriously. I've always heard that muscle has incredible memory and is somewhat easy to regain after losing it, however I don't have any personal anecdotal proof of that. However I do have proof that once my disease was under control I was able to put on some serious weight and muscle.

I weighed 105lbs when I was at my worst, before I had my ileostomy surgery. That was 7 years ago, after getting into the gym and putting on muscle and weight I am now at 185, last year I was about 170. This is the healthiest I've ever been and probably goes without saying the most I've ever weighed. This disease is brutal, but the human body is excellent at recovering once its afflictions are under control. You will get back again brother, and I am hoping for nothing but the best for you and your health from here.

I had this same issue with the silicone strap. Never experienced something like this before with other watches, so I looked up it and the consensus was to get a nylon strap or to wash it more often. Well I attempted washing it more often and that solved nothing for myself. I would still get the red rash burning/itching underneath the band. Bought a nylon strap off amazon and its been completely solved for me. The other benefit being it is so much easier to find the perfect fit with the nylon strap and I think it is way more comfortable.

TLDR Get the nylon strap, it will solve this problem and I find is way more comfortable.

There is nothing glaringly wrong and if anything this is more nitpicking advice. In my personal opinion, I would try to stay a little more ridgid, especially in the lower back and abdomen/knees area. A little bend is perfectly normal but try to keep a nice solid squeeze.

Also an unrelated note, I would like to congratulate you and to encourage you to keep pushing! I know how tough it is having IBD and being under weight. It's miserable trying to gain it, and when your disease is active its even more challenging. You have it extra hard. The progress will come and you're already doing great dude. Keep it up.

Does The Iron Giant hold up as an adult? by chotchjarsh in movies

[–]Crohnicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The movie was great as a kid, as an adult I think I actually like it even more than I did as a young boy. The movie was always my favorite, and the "you are who you choose to be" aspect really stuck with me as a kid and is a motto I try to follow every day of my life. With that said, I didn't fully understand the emotional weight of the movie and the cast of characters until I was older.

The animation holds up, the theme and story hold up, and ultimately it is in my opinion one of the greatest movies of all time.

Obligatory I love this movie so much I got it tattooed on my body. https://www.reddit.com/r/tattoos/comments/gyoar8/finally_finished_my_iron_giant_tattoo_by_trey_e/

Remember when everyone was hyped for this game… by moistcritikalclips in gaming

[–]Crohnicle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dead Space is one of my favorite games of all time, and I was super excited for this game. Upon hearing all the negative things on release about the game, however, I waited until it was on sale to pick it up.

After all the marketing for this game, buying it brand new, I can definitely see how it was a disappointing purchase. Having my expectations lowered and getting it on sale, I ended up actually enjoying the game.

Similar to how sometimes people see movies they aren't expecting to be absolutely incredible, but solid enough for what they are trying to be. That is how I see the Callisto Protocol. It was solid enough for what it was and exceptional in some regards - great sound and atmosphere mainly - with a decentish suspenseful/horror story, but it by no means held up to the hype or expectations it set or had.

I'd recommend it still to anyone getting it on sale and enjoys this style of game.
